Bootcut jeans

Apparently bootcut jeans are back for 2021. Yay! Is anyone wearing them, haven't seem many out and about. Can't decide whether to be brave or wait a bit...

Well I love bootcuts so I hope this is true! I have large thighs and need something to balance them out.

My teen DD has just bought wide legged jeans, more flared than bootcut. She has extremely slim thighs so this is all about fashion. And the other day in town I saw two (2) young women (separately) wearing sort of velvet flares. So I think the 70s may be back. Again.

YogaLite · 27/02/2021 18:06

I used to wear them a lot but decided last year they were a bit frumpy so upcycled them Grin by cutting them off about half way b/w the knee and widest part of the shins (before they start flaring out). With frayed edges they look great in my summer photos.

It's not all about the flare, they are better shaped in the upper part too, better than straight version I'd say.

Itstheprinciple · 27/02/2021 18:21

I'm wearing mine right now.

My DD has a good few pairs of flares and never wears skinnies any more.

Seriously unless you are 6 stone and 7 ft tall boot cut jeans are the most flattering - says someone who gave into the skinny jean look

0blio · 27/02/2021 19:00

Thank you @DeeCeeCherry I've not heard of those but I'll take a look.
Next jeans fit me well but I find there's so much material in them even the skinny ones are a bit bootcut!

peaceanddove · 27/02/2021 19:16

I took the plunge and bought some high waisted, flared jeans from Next. I was highly skeptical, but dear God, they are amazingly flattering. Wear them with pointed toe, ankle boots and magically my legs look 6" longer (and I'm already a 32" inside leg).

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/02/2021 19:22

I knew there was a good reason to keep my Top Shop indigo boot cut jeans from 15 years ago...

Just a shame I can't get them past my knees now 😭

zxy12 · 27/02/2021 19:36

Yay, I still have some low rise bootcut jeans at the back of my cupboard.

I really dislike high waisted jeans. I know I'm showing my age here but they remind me of Helen Daniels from Neighbours in the 1980s when her trousers were pulled so high she had almost no top half visible. My in laws wear theirs a similar way.

I appreciate that they're in fashion now (high waisted jeans, not my in laws' "slacks") but I just can't bring myself to like them.

Hooray Smile Smile

Parsnips and 'hourglass legs'... GrinGrin

Headsshoulderskneesandtoes00 · 27/02/2021 23:20

Someone I work with wears nothing but bootcut jeans. I have long legs so personally I like the fact that skinny jeans can stop above the ankles and I still feel sexay.

Headsshoulderskneesandtoes00 · 27/02/2021 23:22

Correction on my above post. She wears tops, shoes etc too, not just a pair of bootcut jeans.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 27/02/2021 23:23

I wear my bootcut and flares all the time.

Maze76 · 27/02/2021 23:59

I admit my go to ‘Jean’ are skinny jeggings. Super comfy, can be dressed up etc. However I do love a well fitted boot cut- I am a big fan of Jen Anniston’s fashion sense and she wears a boot cut so well.

TitleOfYourSexTape · 28/02/2021 00:21

As long as boot cut/flares are fitted well on the thighs and arse, they will always be 100% more flattering that skinnies. Doesn't matter how tall/short or thin/fat you are. The balance of calf-thigh is everything.

It was just those terrible boot cuts that were too full and bulky around the bum and thighs that were so awful and mumsy. They have to be skinny on the thigh, and not be baggy on the arse.

Nuitsdesetoiles · 28/02/2021 09:10

@TitleOfYourSexTape where can you find such jeans? I have a nightmare with the baggy arse thing really struggle with jeans and trousers alike that are properly fitted round the bum.. Plus you're so right about the thigh thing, too many bootcuts do that horrible mumsy thing of starting to flare way too far to the leg. I think a skinny flare look is more what I'm looking for than a bootcut..

I completely disagree.

Adding fabric at the point where the natural body silhouette narrows, has a widening effect. The balance is distorted in the direction of tree trunks.

(This is not an argument for parsnips btw. Because tapered jeans skim to silhouette too. And straightcut at least do not add. It's not an 'either/or' binary choice)

Obviously some people love how they look in bootcuts. But it really is stretching it to state baldly that everyone always looks better with added width.

Try the Next flared jeans. Snug on the bum and thighs, but then flare out at mid calf. Really flattering.

LunaNorth · 28/02/2021 09:40

I used to have a pair of Diesel bootcuts that made my arse look amazing.

I threw them away last year because I thought I’d never get into them again, and even if I did, they’d be hopelessly unfashionable.

I’ve since lost two stone and now you tell me they’re back in fashion. FML.

TitleOfYourSexTape · 28/02/2021 11:09

@nuitdesetoiles my favourite ever jeans were A&G which were the most flattering and magically leg lengthening & slimming jeans ever - but sadly the style (Juliette) was discontinued and even more sadly I can't fit it into them any more 😭

A&G still do similar styles though, worth looking. Also Paige Hoxtons which say they're skinny but they do widen at the ankle just about enough.

They are expensive though, but I have to say I think it's worth paying more for good jeans - I spent years buying £50 jeans which stretched and looked shapeless and crap after 1 wash. Must've spent £££ over a few years. False economy. I wore the A&G Juliettes for years, and still have them as determined to get back into them Grin

Thank you so much. Will Google!

Nuitsdesetoiles · 28/02/2021 11:17

This thread inspired me to wear my flares for the first time in over a year yesterday... Bit tight round the waist ha ha! But wore them with trainers and a t shirt and thought they looked ok..Smile

I find they're better fitting in general. The pair I bought is very figure hugging around the bum. Fitted but not too tight on the thighs and they then flair out from the knee down, which is good because there's none of that horrible parsnip leg look.
