Apparently bootcut jeans are back for 2021. Yay! Is anyone wearing them, haven't seem many out and about. Can't decide whether to be brave or wait a bit...

Yay! I never stopped wearing them, I think skinnies look awful on everyone, me most of all. Bring back the low rise long bootcut I can wear with a pair of converse!

morninglive · 26/02/2021 20:07

I may have to wear them as my lockdown poundage has made all my jeggings, leggins etc look hideous

morninglive · 26/02/2021 20:09

Why are treggins different from leggins?

@SomeRandomerOnBumsnet

Bootcuts are dreadful, frumpy 'mum' jeans that style forgot. Pair them with black 'mum' boots with chunky heels and square toes to complete the classic frumpish look.

I know skinnies are no longer 'on trend' but they will have to prise mine from my cold dead hands, I love them, they suit me, I will never go back to 90's 'fashion'

I agree with every word
Maxellious · 26/02/2021 20:16

I'm sure I read this thread every year! Grin Never happened yet!

But tbh, everyone should just wear the shape that suits them best. Everyone will look better and it's not like jeans are a high fashion item. Or heaven forbid, wear different shapes depending on your mood! Grin

I've worn nothing but skinny jeans for at least 5 years. A few weeks ago I finally found some wide leg jeans like I wore all the time as a teenager, only high waisted and also got a pair of mom jeans.

I wore my skinnies for a day this week after wearing those and I hated them! The constant pulling up drove me mad. I've got fat legs too so skinnies weren't really made for me.

The other two pairs are so comfy, I love them. I love that both are high waisted,I hate low rise. I might actually buy spare of the wide legs for when they wear out.

midsomermurderess · 26/02/2021 20:40

Young people seem to like them, won't go near skinny jeans. Just accept you are now that age where you have settled for a look.

Thing is, I still see plenty of young people in skinny jeans. More likely paired with a crop top than a sensible bum-covering jumper though. Maybe that's the difference!
MindBodyChocolate · 26/02/2021 22:31

These are my new favourite jeans - nice amount of stretch, high waisted, slim flare. Really comfy but look good.

Inspired by this thread, I was going through the denim drawer earlier looking for the hideous maternity jeans I can discard now DC3 is here and found a pair of flappy-legged jeans from the early noughties. I knew they were worth keeping Grin

midsomermurderess · 26/02/2021 23:02

I bought these recently, balloon jeans, and really like them. They're longer than in the photo, and I'm 5'11. It's nice to wear a different shape.

SomethingOnce · 26/02/2021 23:06

Not sure that photo does them justice, tbh, mm...

midsomermurderess · 26/02/2021 23:15

I've had quite a few compliments wearing them so yes, maybe the photo doesn't do them justice.

Love those Levis, do they have a number please? Look great on you

ThreeTwoOneBlastOff · 26/02/2021 23:43

Bootcuts always look bad when they were too short and flapped above the ankles.

SomethingOnce · 27/02/2021 00:03

Apologies, mm, I didn’t see the link (MNing in low light without glasses) - I thought you’d forgotten to attach a photo of your own to your post and I was trying to be funny Blush

Tierrasfuente · 27/02/2021 00:15

Love the Levis above.

My favourite historic jeans were some Diesel indigo flares, and some Lee jeans which flared from the knee (so were maybe blootcut). They were really flattering. Skinny jeans have never really suited my figure but they are practical with wellies, big jumpers and other boots.

Suzi888 · 27/02/2021 05:57

Thank God.
Skinny jeans are awful, surprised they ever caught on. To me, they’re frumpy and unflattering with every leg and bum bulge on display (unless your under 25 and ripped)🤣

Suzi888 · 27/02/2021 06:01

Bootcuts are 70’s style anyway aren’t they? Confused

eaglejulesk · 27/02/2021 06:35

I never stopped wearing them and I couldn't care less if they are in or out. Hate skinnies with a passion, who wants to look like a parsnip? Ghastly things.

niceupthedance · 27/02/2021 06:37

Yes DSD age 13 wears them. I wouldn't wear then a second time around !

ExhaustedFlamingo · 27/02/2021 06:56

Another here who's always hated skinnies, personal opinion is that there are very, very few women or men that they suit. I look like a stuffed sausage in skinnies.

Bloody love my boot cuts. And kick flares. I kept them all. I put on loads of weight which I'm currently working hard to lose and once I do, I'm putting them right back on again regardless of what the cool kids on Til Tok say is in or out 😅

The only thing I would agree with is that you have to get the length right. Too-short bootcut jeans look absolutely awful.

Mind you, I've kept my black combats too. When my arse is skinny enough I'm putting them back on as well. I'll be like that person that everyone had in their neighbourhood growing up that still wore giant 60s flares, platforms and psychedelic prints 😅
