Bootcut jeans

Apparently bootcut jeans are back for 2021. Yay! Is anyone wearing them, haven't seem many out and about. Can't decide whether to be brave or wait a bit...

I'll stick with skinnies, or tapered as they follow the silhouette of the body

That isn't necessarily a god thing. I remember from a previous thread some unfavourable associations of skinny clad legs to parsnips.

changi · 26/02/2021 10:48

Good thing

Those parsnips don't look much better with a bulge of fabric attached. Hourglass legs are not a good look!

That's why I also mentioned tapered.

You can move away from 'parsnip' without the dreadfully widening effect of bootcut

When i was a teen in the noughties i remember you would have been CRUCIFIED for wearing skinny fit school trousers or skinny jeans, but now i cant imagine going back to bootcut as that looks terrible to me.

Isababybel · 26/02/2021 10:59

Early noughties specifically **

GoneCrazy · 26/02/2021 11:00

I have chunky thighs but thin calves and ankles so skinnies with sort of above knee length tops generally suit me better - bootcut looking back at the photos of me in the 90s just made me look like had two tree trunks as legs

Aahotep · 26/02/2021 11:00

So glad they are back, my calves are also pleased

lavenderlou · 26/02/2021 11:03

@MildredPuppy

I saw a couple of group of older teen girls in bootcuts the other day ! Not jeans though, other trousers. I did a double take and thought this is it, im finally old. The dominant fashion of my late teens is back. Question is will ot make me feel older or younger to wear them again.
I saw a teen girl in combats the other day!

I personally loved them! But low rise, slim fitting with just a hint of a flare at the bottom over converse or trainers - not the whole weird fishtail leg thing. But reading everyone's responses, maybe I'll hold fire and see if they catch on before I go back. Love the confidence of people who said they never stopped wearing them. Good on you.

I can count on one hand the amount of women I've seen who actually look good in skinny jeans. Boot cut, for anyone other than a catwalk model, are the way to go! Huzzah I say!

0blio · 26/02/2021 17:44

@OhTheTastyNuts

I wish low rise jeans would come back! High waisted are so uncomfortable. And seriously unflattering if, like me, all your height is in your legs and you have a short body.

I end up buying Diesel jeans on eBay!

I am happy in either skinny or bootcut, as long as they fasten under my belly button!

Please tell me where you buy your high waisted jeans as I cannot get any that are high enough to be comfortable (long waist and short legs here) - even supposedly high waisted dig into my hips and expose my muffin top.
itssquidstella · 26/02/2021 17:45

I have a pair from Levi's. I really like them but I find I need to wear more fitted tops with them, where I’ve been in the habit of wearing quite loose/boxy tops with my skinny and mom jeans.

Bootcut jeans
itssquidstella · 26/02/2021 17:47

@Isababybel absolutely - skinny or straight leg trousers were social suicide. And yet trouser skirts were somehow the height of fashion...

Mankyfruitbowl · 26/02/2021 17:52

The thing is, skinnies might well be seen as frumpy fashion death in a year or so! So the perceived frump-factor isn't a reason to avoid them.

NorthernChinchilla · 26/02/2021 18:12

I have never stopped wearing boot cut through to flares, always been my style. I scoured The Whole Internet trying to find ones that were low rise last night, as I can't wear high waisted owing to my shape.
I laugh when they occasionally come back into fashion as for about 6 months at a time I appear like I look like I know anything about what's on trend Grin

Aahotep · 26/02/2021 19:10

If you are on Tik Tok you would see many many videos slating skinnies. I read about it in the Guardian obviously I'm far too old to be on Tiktok.

JimmyJabs · 26/02/2021 19:20

I've got a pair, although they're more like kick flares than bootcut. I also have two pairs of mom jeans, some straight legs, and something called dad jeans that Topshop were selling off before they closed. The only type I don't have is skinnies - I hate them and their reign of tyranny over the world of denim over the last decade!

PeskyRooks · 26/02/2021 19:34

I wonder if those black bootcut trousers that came with a skirt are going to come back??! I worked in a clothes shop in the late 90s And we sold loads of these!!

And wearing a white t-shirt with a strappy dress on top?

misslomi · 26/02/2021 19:41

@SomeRandomerOnBumsnet

Bootcuts are dreadful, frumpy 'mum' jeans that style forgot. Pair them with black 'mum' boots with chunky heels and square toes to complete the classic frumpish look.

I know skinnies are no longer 'on trend' but they will have to prise mine from my cold dead hands, I love them, they suit me, I will never go back to 90's 'fashion'

Boots with chunky heels and square toes are very much in atm!
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 26/02/2021 19:43

Legs are meant to taper

well maybe, but sadly not every ones legs do.
somebody forgot to tell my calves.

PeskyRooks · 26/02/2021 19:48

I wear bootcut jeans all the time too but I wouldn't dream of wearing them with square toe chunky heel boots..I wear mine with my crocs!!GrinGrinGrin

itssquidstella · 26/02/2021 19:53

@PeskyRooks I'm there for that; I was never allowed a trouser skirt so I still secretly covet one.

Nuitsdesetoiles · 26/02/2021 19:55

Might they come back in fashion with a dress over the top?! Remember that noughties fashion "moment"?

I still have my first ever pair of skinnies from 2005. They are sass and bide grey denim from Selfridge's...£190!!! 2 kids and a mortgage later it's gap at a push...

DeeCeeCherry · 26/02/2021 19:57

I never stopped wearing bootcut jeans. Can't stand skinny jeans they're so unflattering on the legs. They remind me of the abomination that was drainpipe jeans

0blio I have to wear high waisted too, long legs big butt shorter body. KIM or Evie do them, very flattering
