What age did you or your dd start to shave legs?

My dd is 13 and is blissfully un bothered by them at present. Just wondering though what age you think they start.. Not that I'm going to suggest anything before she does

Me : About 13. I remember being teased about the hairy legs before this.
Neither of my dds shave as much as me , not as dark haired as me.

Astrid01 · 24/02/2021 19:37

I was 12 or so. My mum wouldn't let me so I nicked a Bic face razor from my dad and cut my legs to ribbons. She used to shout at me every time about it rather than just teach me/ buy me shaving cream and a decent razor. I bought my own stuff once I got a job at 15.

3CCC · 24/02/2021 19:39

I was 12/13
I was given something similar to this www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-8790U-Simply-Smooth-Remover/dp/B0000ULKWM
It worked really well especially in my finer leg hair. Added bonus that there was no razor involved

I was 11

I remember taking out a chunk of my thumb and my leg doing it!

RiderGirl · 24/02/2021 19:53

My DD is 10. She started her periods a couple of months ago, and is quite tall and well developed. She did ask me about shaving her legs last summer and I said no, but have decided that if she does ask me again this year (when wearing shorts happens), I'll show her how to do it. She goes to secondary school this year and I'd hate for hairy legs to be something she could get picked on about, she has inherited her dad's dark hair and her leg hair is fairly noticeable. If she isn't bothered though I'll not push it.

WorriedMillie · 24/02/2021 19:55

I was 11, I think, the hairs weren’t even noticeable, it was just peer pressure
DD is 8 and has darker hairs, she’s completely oblivious to them and long may this last, but I’ll support her in whatever she chooses, when the time comes

babyyodaxmas · 24/02/2021 19:57

I think she was 12, now 14

I remember using one of these and it gave me an insanely bad rash!!
Fuckadoodledoooo · 24/02/2021 20:22

@MissingLinker yes. I mean I'll make sure they know they can etc.

But if they had legs like mine I'd encourage them before they asked.
Kids are cruel bastards.

PaperMonster · 24/02/2021 20:27

I was 16. The boyfriend who went on to be my first ex-husband teased me relentlessly about hairy legs. They weren’t and I’m very fair so you couldn’t see them. I didn’t even have hair on the back of my legs. I was stupid - wish I’d never done it.

Chanel05 · 24/02/2021 21:17

I was 10 I believe. It was in primary school.

MsFogi · 24/02/2021 21:21

I'm still waiting for the 15 and 13 yo dds to start. They have been provided with razors etc and shown how to use them but absolutely zero interest so far (despite a lot of dark hair)!

MistakenAgain · 24/02/2021 22:03

10 or 11. Ditto following a boys comment ' ew you have got really hairy legs'. Didn't know what I was doing so I shaved the fronts. Figured out in a week or so it was best to do the lot. Kind of wish I had gone straight for epilator.

SpringisSpinning · 24/02/2021 22:35

Wow some really young ones here, age 7!?

Dd is quite a feminist and used to being different... It's clearly not been mentioned yet... At school. I think she would mention it to me if she wanted to shave them.

Like others I also took a massive chunk out of my leg.
I think she's done well to get to 13 and not seemed self conscious about it... It is quite thick dark hair! Weird because she's a honey blonde otherwise...

I don't want her to to think she has too...

Msfogi that's wonderful though..

I was 13 I think. My mum would wax them for me, till I learnt to do it myself. Not sure I was that bothered initially but I'm really glad she did as I would have been really tormented in school in hindsight.

SexyGiraffe · 25/02/2021 05:29

Age 12 after a boy commented on them at a party. What a familiar story this seems to be, based on this thread!

garlictwist · 25/02/2021 05:30

I was in year 9 I think.

Crayfishforyou · 25/02/2021 06:46

I was 12, I had very dark hair and very white skin. My parents also forced me to do water sports......
I had to steal the razor, the shower looked as though a blood sacrifice had taken place!

Dd is 8 and says she likes being furry.

What was your reason for saying no?
RiderGirl · 25/02/2021 07:20

Honestly, I don't really know - my own stupid notions of wanting her to remain a child and feeling that she's growing up too soon? I'm not sure that she was really that bothered as it was more of a passing comment, and I felt for whatever reason that she was just too young to be thinking about it. Although the fact that she mentioned it meant she is thinking about it I guess. Which is why I'm fully prepared to buy her a razor and show her how to do it when the time comes, which I anticipate to be fairly soon.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 25/02/2021 07:24

I was 12 , my mum tried to forbid it but I did it anyway. I was very hairy and dark and I went to an all girls school, they were relentless !
Now I'm entering peri menopause bizarrely I can go weeks without shaving my legs. The downside is I have hardly any eyebrows left they just dont grow anymore Sad

Lochmorlich · 25/02/2021 07:28

If your dd does decide to remove her leg hair you would be doing her an enormous favour by encouraging waxing rather than shaving.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/02/2021 07:30

dd (and i) did imac on them when she was 9 (after comments at school) but she hasnt been arsed to do it since.
