What age did you or your dd start to shave legs?

My dd is 13 and is blissfully un bothered by them at present. Just wondering though what age you think they start.. Not that I'm going to suggest anything before she does

I was getting bullied at 13 for not shaving, but my mother refused. I couldn’t get ahold of one of her razors, so I stole a razor blade from the tool box.

My own dd is unlikely to want to shave. She is very anti-makeup, nails, or any type of unnecessary preening. She is 12 now. If she asks to shave I will assist her because I certainly don’t want a repeat of my own first shave. I certainly won’t push her to shave. It’s a ridiculous practice.

@HeartShapedMoon

Can I ask, those women that don't shave their armpits and legs and have a partner or husband. Doesn't your husband comment or do you not care?

I know it's awful that boys will tease girls etc. I know it's wrong and I know girls shouldn't feel pressurised into doing it, but I just can't imagine feeling sexy and going to bed with my husband with that kind of excess body hair. And he would find it a massive turn off too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

However if I ever found myself single I wouldn't give a shit and I'd be as hirsute as can be!

I find this post pretty depressing. You don’t want to do it (wouldn’t bother if single) but feel you have to because your husband would find natural body hair unattractive. What makes it ‘excess’? What’s the acceptable level according to your husband?

I remember speaking to my DM when I was about 13 and she said use a razor - ended with a blood bath. So she bought me a Ladyshave.

I thought I was very sophisticated 😂

I remember that I was in Year 7, I didn't actually realise that it was a 'thing' before then!

DD is only 7 but I'll help her and show her what to do when the time comes. I remember I did mine dry with my Dad's razor 😳 There was no Internet to consult in those days!!

DD was 11, same age as when her periods started.

I was 15, also same age my periods started!

Munkeenut · 27/02/2021 10:42

I'm another one where my mum banned it. Refused to even let me try any method of hair removal. I don't really know why, but it meant I got bullied in early secondary school and ended up using an old rusty razor I found in the bathroom that my dad hasn't noticed had gone missing. It cut my legs to shreds one day and my mum noticed and looked at me with disgust and said "I know what you've been doing" it was horrible. Please have open and honest conversations with your kids about puberty and all that might be entailed from a social point of view! If she doesn't want to shave, fine, but let it be her decision.

JosephineBaker · 27/02/2021 10:56

DD asked around age 11. I admit I discouraged it - said she could if she really wanted, here’s the razors and the shaving gel, but it’s unnecessary and quite frankly a pain in the arse, so why bother?

She did it occasionally until 14 and more regularly since. Got her an Estrid razor subscription because that’s less plastic waste, and she’s very happy with it.

I shave every few months if I feel like it.
DH doesn’t give a shite - or if he does, he’s got enough sense to keep quiet.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 27/02/2021 10:57

Wanted to from 11, as I looked like a Yeti (they were over an inch long and stuck out through my socks) and I had stinky Brillo pads growing under my arms. Not allowed 'because shaving will make them grow - leave them alone and they'll disappear'. Never understood that - as if they grew faster, I'd still be able to shave them off, right?

First thing I bought with my first Saturday job pay was a packet of razors.

@SpringisSpinning

I've never heard of female electric shavers for legs!! Can anyone recommend one!
You don't need a more expensive pink one.

Spend about £30 on a Philips men's rechargeable with integral trimmer and it'll do everything.

SpringisSpinning · 27/02/2021 12:03

So the flat rotating blades are what women use on their legs?

I was about 9 but used hair removal cream with ny my mum's help. I was very dark and boys in school had made fun and I wasso self conscious. It was a defining moment for me and if my DD (aged 2) wants to at that aged I'd also help her.

BaggoMcoys · 27/02/2021 12:11

I think I was 15 or 16 the first time I tried shaving my legs. I did it regularly when I was about 18-25, then I stopped. Now I shave them maybe once a year at most. Dp loves my legs whether they are hairy or not, and they are hairy most of the time. I shave under my arms most of the time though. I seem to smell more of BO when I don't shave there for some reason.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 27/02/2021 12:42

They work better than the flat foil ones (which tend to catch and pull). And they're easier to clean without risking slicing your fingertip on the multiple blade lines inside.
