What's your recurring dream?

Was reading another post and a few people said they regularly dream that they find a new room in their house so thought I'd ask what's your recurring dream and if you have looked into the meaning?

I used to dream about water but not in a nice calm way it was always massively choppy or huge tidal waves 🤷‍♀️

My more recent one (over the last few years) is that I've killed someone, I never kill them in my dream they are already dead but I definitely did it and I'm in a massive panic that I'm going to get caught! I've been driving with them wrapped up in carpet on my front seat or I've hidden them in the loft, it's absolutely terrifying!! Anyone else want to make me feel like I'm not an actual psychopath?!

And I dream I live in a house with huge ceilings, or I'm looking around one to buy and I know it's going to be mine, and it just gets bigger and bigger. The last one had a closing-down branch of Curry's in the attic.

Whenever I am stressed about something or feeling lonely I always wake up (I sleep naked) and cannot remember if I should be naked or not. I either think there’s other people in the house that will think I’m weird for being naked or that I shouldn’t be naked in front of DP it’s really weird and confusing. I’ve been with DP 6 years!

@Teentitansonloop I have the exact same dream!!!!

I dream a lot about walking, driving round the county I live in. Constantly going on the wrong direction. The same few "landmarks" (which don't actually exist) pop up time and time again.

Or I have a dream where I'm trying to renovate a house which is impossible to renovate (I have lived through this in real life so the fear is real)

I also frequently have dreams about being in my childhood home.

I dream I’m trying to come down the stairs in a large very old house. There are people at the bottom and they are throwing books at me.

I think maybe because I’m dyslexic.

truetuesdays · 23/02/2021 00:23

Oh yes and there is an absolutely giant sainsburys/BHS/John Lewis all wrapped into one in my dreams as well. I visit that quite frequently.

Mindlesspuzzles · 23/02/2021 00:37

Bad dreams tend to be not able to find where I'm going.
I'll be having to do something, eg teaching or recently having to do DHs job which I'm not at all trained for and there are many obstacles preventing me from finding where I need to be.

ShowOfHands · 23/02/2021 08:15

I don't think dreams "mean" anything. It's random synapses firing. I'm as likely to have a bad dream as I am a good dream. They're never any reflection of what is happening in real life. We probably do ascribe meaning to them afterwards though in the same way that we try to add meaning to everything we see and do.

What's most fascinating is how little we know about why we dream. We're still only theorising about what's happening.

Teentitansonloop · 23/02/2021 09:17

@truetuesdays that it so weird we have the same dream. What do you think it means when you have the school dream? For me I think it's a fear of being trapped but also being left behind by my peers, failing basically.

"The toilet is broken or full of poo. The door is broken and I'm worried about being seen going to the loo
Toilet dreams tend to represent secrets, so a dirty toilet represents a secret you should really try get out in the open."
Thanks @Gcnq
That's an interesting interpretation.

I'm a very literal person and I sometimes think it must be related to the actual act of going to the toilet, ie that I was made to feel that going to the toilet was a dirty, shameful thing to do when I was a baby.

cheeseisthebest · 23/02/2021 13:44

I also have a packing dream. I'm packing to move house or go home from holiday and I can't fit it all in, its always very stressful.
And the school dream but mine is Uni and I look at my timetable and theres an entire module I've missed and not gone to any lectures and I will fail if I dont do the work.

It must mean something if so many people have such similar dreams as each other.

Gcnq · 23/02/2021 16:07

@OwlSock

Hair, string, or thread caught in my mouth. When I try to pull it out, it is in various stages of entanglement within my throat or deeper in my body. Sometimes, I pull parts of me out of my mouth Hmm.

I have had this dream several times a week, for the last 20 years or so. It is quite horrid really.

Hope you don't mind me trying to interpret but I really find dreams so interesting, and have learned a lot about them over the years

If you think about the mouth, it's the most "social" part of our body. We speak, we eat and drink (which for most of us is a social thing).

What's happening in your dream is a minor irritation of some sort that turns into a really big deal, and connects to the inside of you in a deeply felt way.
The fact this dream has gone on for 20 years indicates more than just a phase.

I think you possibly suffer from acute social anxiety? I'd recommend chamomile tea and avoiding caffeine/chocolate/stimulants Smile

Gcnq · 23/02/2021 16:09

@JustDavesWife

Just remembered another one I had 5 or 6 times a few years ago but not since.

I dreamt my tongue had fallen out but I was too scared to tell anyone so I just kept it in my mouth and couldn't/wouldn't speak to anyone! Scary, weird and disgusting all at the same time!

Definitely social anxiety but only something that happened for a short while
KettleWentBang · 23/02/2021 16:37

That I'm having a panic attack having to wear a mask. I wake up having a panic attack

purrswhileheeats · 23/02/2021 17:04

@Isababybel

I dream that i cant walk properly, like i literally cant put one foot in front of the other and have to do a weird skip (and i think that people will be looking at me and judging!) Have dreamed it weekly ever since I was young, its bizarre. Also very frequently dream about being on a plane that's taxiing (sp?) not on a runway but in a residential street and im scared we cant take off and will crash.
I often have a similar one but in reverse - the plane has taken off but plummets into a residential area; it never 'crashes' but ends up taxi-ing down a narrow street.

I've had the exam one many times, wake up in a cold sweat Shock even though it's 25 years since I graduated.

The worst recurring one by far - I'm still with my exh. I've decided to stay with him despite his behaviour... I wake up crying but then relief sets in Wink
