What's your recurring dream?

JustDavesWife · 22/02/2021 20:14

Was reading another post and a few people said they regularly dream that they find a new room in their house so thought I'd ask what's your recurring dream and if you have looked into the meaning?

I used to dream about water but not in a nice calm way it was always massively choppy or huge tidal waves 🤷‍♀️

My more recent one (over the last few years) is that I've killed someone, I never kill them in my dream they are already dead but I definitely did it and I'm in a massive panic that I'm going to get caught! I've been driving with them wrapped up in carpet on my front seat or I've hidden them in the loft, it's absolutely terrifying!! Anyone else want to make me feel like I'm not an actual psychopath?!

@fluffythedragonslayer I have the same! It’s like dream FOMO!

73kittycat73 · 22/02/2021 22:10
@fluffythedragonslayer I have that exact dream about toilets too that the doors don't close properly or cover up the cubicle properly. Must have it at least 5 or 6 times a year.
I have that dream and I'm glad I can never find anywhere to go-I always wake up bursting for a wee!

DuzzyFuck · 22/02/2021 22:16

@netstaller The whole story is too long and could derail the thread, but in the dream I'm always in that particular room and having to hold the door against an unseen force that's trying to close it, or shouting at said force to leave us alone (which it then does).

I was about 11 when the spooky stuff went down. I'm 37 now and still dream about it frequently. DP has often woken to me kicking and shouting in my sleep Blush

ShowOfHands · 22/02/2021 22:17

Trying to find a toilet (always too public or filthy or occupied - I don't need a wee in rl, it's more an anxiety dream).

Hidden rooms.

Trying and failing to dial a number in an emergency

Enormous waves

Sitting exams for which I haven't revised.

Appearing in a play and not knowing my lines.

Still living in a house I moved out of 12yrs ago.

Supposed to be moving house or going on holiday and I haven't packed a thing.

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 22/02/2021 22:18

Returning to childhood home.

Flying.

Flying down a spiral staircase.

Finding a beloved cat who died years ago never actually died. They have always been here and I simply forgot about them.

I have 2 recurring dreams that I have had probably 2 or 3 times a year since I was a teenager and I'm 52 now.

One is looking out of my bedroom window and watching a plane crash into my bank garden. The other is more complex.. involves different people, usually from my past and its always in Blackpool. Now I was born there but never lived there. I was adopted at 6 wks. My grandparents lived close to there and it was somewhere that I spent a lot of time in my youth too but I've not been there more than twice in the last 25 years.

I absolutely love dreams where my parents are in it. Both are now dead and my dad was horrifically facially disfigured by cancer in the last years of his life but in my dreams he always looks like the dad Ihe was before this...and now I'm bloody crying .

SpudsandGravy · 22/02/2021 22:21

I have a few, though fortunately I don't have any of them very often.

The most frequent (and I appreciate this makes me sound nuts) is about, basically, alien spaceships - ufos - appearing in the sky: not as large things hovering overhead but as tiny, distant lights, moving about in groups. In the dream I'm pointing them out to other people. It's quite a frightening dream.

Another I've had several times recently, but can't explain to myself, is that I've bought a really large house, with lots of rooms, and I'm worrying about how I'm going to manage it. (I actually live in a tiny cottage, and could do with another room or two, so I have no idea what this is about.)

Finally, but I've not had this one for some time (thank goodness!), I have the exam-related dream where I'm about to have to do something important but haven't done any preparation at all - could be an exam, could be an important day at work. At least I know where this one comes from!

73kittycat73 · 22/02/2021 22:22

Does anybody have cigarette dreams? I gave up (Irl) over 10 years ago. However, in my dream I had the 'odd' ciggie until I realise I'm smoking again and need more. I then find I either have no money and the shops are open, or I have the money but the shops are shut!

ShowOfHands · 22/02/2021 22:22

I'm also a dream muderer but it's always after the fact and I have a body to deal with.

Late for school by several hours is common too despite leaving school 25yrs ago.

I dream I can't run or walk too. Just can't pick up leaden feet or work out how to move.

Also often dream it's Christmas Eve and I've forgotten to present shop.

Funny how many we all share.

2021namechanger · 22/02/2021 22:23

@DartmoorChef oh it’s like you’re being visited - a lovely treat. Am so Sorry you’re upset Flowers

SpudsandGravy · 22/02/2021 22:23

Oh, and have just remembered another one! I've had this quite a lot.

It's connected with flying, and I worry that the plane is going to crash and/or that I'm late to the airport and am going to miss it and/or on the way to the airport I remember that I've forgotten to buy tickets/take my passport, and don't have access to any money etc. Stressful!

73kittycat73 · 22/02/2021 22:24

I had a dream the other night where a couple of women had an abundance of sausages and I was wondering where I could get sausage from! Grin

MolyHolyGuacamole · 22/02/2021 22:25

I desperately need the toilet but the only ones are really public where everyone can see you do your business 😂 so either cubicles with no doors or a solitary toilet in the middle of a busy shopping centre

ShowOfHands · 22/02/2021 22:27

I only kill women in my dreams. Never know who they were or why I did it or how but am scared that I'll get caught.

SymphonyofShadows · 22/02/2021 22:29

I have quite a few of these - hidden rooms, wrong train, can’t dial emergency number. I also dream about running up the road to my childhood home but everything is bigger and the road is longer, so I never get there. Someone or something is chasing me.

Another one is that I go back to houses I have lived in, and everything is as it was when I lived there. I know I shouldn’t be there and I worry about being caught but it’s like I just walked away and no one else moved in.

OhToBeASeahorse · 22/02/2021 22:29

Orca whales. And it's never good.

When I was younger I used to dream i was falling and I would wake up feeling utterly awful, like the room was spinning. I'd have to get out of bed and literally cling to the floor until it passed. It was horrible.

Gcnq · 22/02/2021 22:31

I'm a tiny bit "woo" when it comes to dreams and I can tell you with certainty that dreams about water represent your emotions, so choppy tidal wave type dreams will come during times of emotional upheaval.

House dreams represent your unconscious mind, so new / hidden discovered rooms will represent a new area of learning or understanding of the mind.

Killing someone and hiding the body is a brilliant one for Freudian analysis! Basically the dead body represents part of your life that is changing, for example large changes such as achieving a promotion can result in dreams about death. Leaving a relationship is an obvious one, you're leaving the other person behind, beginning new. The murderous aspect represents control, the death was not accidental you are or were in control of this change now you're shy or embarrassed to brag too much or draw too much attention to it, or even ashamed in some way.

Yes! It’s the only time I ever know I’m dreaming! Dream me thinks to myself ‘oh I don’t smoke anymore, this is a dream’. So weird.

I don’t think the teeth thing is a conscious fear or death or ageing, I think it’s a control thing, that despite my best attempts those teeth are going! Also I think it’s a reminder that that is what will happen if I don’t look after myself physically prompting me to look after myself mentally. The teeth dreams only ever happen when I know I’m stressed IRL.

Gcnq · 22/02/2021 22:34

When I was a teenager, I had a recurring dream about my teeth falling out. Teeth falling out dreams are usually connected to security worries, eg a parents divorce or did you move schools/house during this time maybe?

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 22/02/2021 22:34

@MolyHolyGuacamole oh I get that one too! Or that the only loos I can find are filthy and broken.

Gcnq · 22/02/2021 22:35

My recurring dream is definitely sitting my exams but it's tomorrow and I haven't prepped.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 22/02/2021 22:36

When I was younger I'd have recurring dreams where whenever I tried crossing the road I'd walk normally until I got to the middle and then suddenly as I was trying to get to the other side of the road it was like a force was pulling me back and it would take me ages to get across. Another one involved stairs and every time I got the the top step I'd suddenly get pushed back down again. The phone and trying a dial a number but missing digits or adding too many digits in also sounds familiar. Now my recurring dreams are driving up to Durham to see my OH I've never even driven by myself up there so no idea where that ones come from! But in my dream I know the way perfectly and even know some short cuts. Sometimes though I walk there up through a field and then when I get there I always go to the cathedral and I've no idea why this represents Durham in my dream but to get to the better parts I have to walk through a shopping centre and come out of Wilko's. Recently I've dreamt I'm running for miles and miles. Maybe that ones a sign I should get off my fat lazy arse and actually do the c25k I downloaded onto my phone. Does anyone else ever have dreams where you're dreaming of something or someone and then suddenly right before you eyes it changes to a different object or a different person?

cheeseisthebest · 22/02/2021 22:38

I have the toilet dream too. I'm in the mens loo, or its front of everyone, or the toilets are all filthy. Also dream I'm naked or just in a towel!

SpudsandGravy · 22/02/2021 22:38

When I gave up I used to dream from time to time that I'd started again. The relief upon waking and realising that it was just a dream was enormous!

Unfortunately, I'm now bleeping smoking again...
