Today is dh birthday. We drove to do a nice walk and then ended up on a beach and had ice cream, the DC kicked their wellies off and ran into the sea and then got caught by a wave and got wet. It was quite sweet, reminded me they are still little and enjoy simple things.
They are now over excited and I'm drinking wine while cooking dinner. Reckon I'll be tipsy by bedtime!

Really lucky here in that the police don't seem to bother, never see them around. Though they have a large rural ish area to cover. The police in wales are something else though by the sounds if it.

I washed my shopping for a couple of weeks but it just got too much and I have only got a tiny kitchen so people talking about placing their food in quarantine made me think that they must either have garages or massive kitchens. I did it because a friend told me that it was a good idea after I had said how weird it was that I saw people suggesting washing their shopping. However I stopped listening to some of her suggestions as she sent a mad message to all of us on our group WhatsApp saying 2 metres wasn't enough and we needed to distance ourselves 8 metres away! I was proper annoyed by that one but she seems to have calmed down loads since then thank goodness

@justasking111

Re make up. I have never been so pale, so make up is the wrong shade because of this, think we need to bear this in mind. I looked like a ghost in the hall mirror the other day
And me! I go outside so little I keep getting sunburnt cheeks (in Feb / March). I was on the “What season are you?” In S&B and kept getting stuck - because my skin is paler and my hair darker than usual.

I saw lots of picnickers out today, in spit of the cloudy afternoon, complete with a cloth and food. Some of them were having their gatherings in "shady" spots, under trees, as if they didn't want to be in plain sight.

The Met police recently said that they were going to stop patrolling parks, that they don't "want" to. In defiance of the government, or having better things to do?

Good on them! Too bloody cold here today.

Guessing the plod are realising we are nearing the end and are going to ease off now in the hope that once we are out the other side of this, people will have forgotten their overzealous stomping on civil liberties and be willing to play nicely.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/03/2021 21:15

I went out this evening and there seemed to be a lot of social noise from gardens. Definitely seeing more groups out and about since half term too.

thefallthroughtheair · 06/03/2021 21:16

Need to vent. The policing round here is ridiculous. 2 of the 3 days I've been out there have been van loads driving slowly around. Trying to see on the bright side, I was always aware and understanding of some people's suspicion of the police but probably never truly empathised. Now I do and it's a good thing that I've really had to think about how privileged I've been. I can't believe that now I look at a police van and wait for it to stop so they can try and fine me and a friend for breaking the law by sitting on a bench. Not that I'd accept a fine, and not that it stopped us, but the fact that it's in my head. Policing can only happen by consent. If a wealthy white middle class female feels like she's no longer consenting, that's not a great place for policing to be. I dont have an issue with the individuals, who are juat doing their job, but the institution is now tyranical and I would really like them to spend some time on proper crime.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/03/2021 21:20

@thefallthroughtheair same. I have had a big rethink on the police and my attitude towards them. I too have been very lucky to be insulated by race & class in my life.

On a different note, I know a fair few people on here lurk on FWR - if you haven't seen the superstraight thread yet, wander over - you are in for a treat. Grin

What's FWR racking my brain cells here

thefallthroughtheair · 06/03/2021 21:46

SirSamuel
Just a peek at that thread and I think my brain might have exploded!

@SirSamuelVimes I've been very much enjoying the various superhashtags today.

justasking111 · 06/03/2021 22:01

Found it and Twitter, wow some imploding going on tonight 😂😂

Superstraight is great.

Have been awol for a while due to life stuff so checking back in .... I realised today that it’s been a whole year since I’ve been on the underground ... this time last year I went to the South Bank with a friend to hear Hilary Mantel read from her final Cromwell novel - that’s the last time I sat in an auditorium as part of an audience and I miss it so much ...

It’s nearly a year since we started wfh too ... no end in sight for that

smallandimperfectlyformed · 06/03/2021 23:24

Ah Pleasedontdothat a year ago life was so different wasn't it? Glad to see you back here and hope the real life stuff hasn't been too hard for you. Not exactly sure of the dates but around a year ago in my borough a new library was opened and I took my children to see a story teller there, they had their faces painted (although not the then 10 year old as she was too cool by then obviously) and they played in the soft play. There was a dance studio and we ate in a cafe without sanitising our hands first! I remember talking to one of my daughters friend's mums who was there then about how weird the news was coming from China and wondering how we would manage but it was mainly idle musing. Also saw from looking at old messages the other day that on February 26th I had a cough, which isn't something I normally struggle with, and if that had happened a month later I would have been so panicked!

SirSamuelVimes · 06/03/2021 23:30

I had that in February - looking at pictures of DD at her first (and now only) rainbows sleepover. About thirty girls, rainbows, brownies and guides, plus maybe half a dozen leaders/young leaders, having an amazing time. It nearly made me cry.

I have to believe we'll get back to that. No other disease in human history has made us change course forever.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/03/2021 23:50

Ooh I'm arguing on a wedding invitation etiquette thread - it's just like old Mumsnet! Yay!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 07/03/2021 00:02

SirSamuelVimes I think that the fact so many people are missing how life used to be is a very clear indication that we will get it back, the desire is so strong. The voices of those who were telling us all we were selfish for complaining about missing out on human connection are quietening/reducing now and more people are being open about their own struggles with the isolation. There's small green shoots of hope coming through!

MercyBooth · 07/03/2021 00:02

From now on im calling face masks nose knickers.

4 minutes in........

AcornAutumn · 07/03/2021 00:03

I don't pretend to know much about the teaching arguments

But this is sweet... they want their pupils back!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 07/03/2021 00:27

Ah that's so lovely AcornAutumn it's really nice to see teachers looking forward to seeing children again. My girls teachers all can't wait and nor can I. My babies are all going to see their friends again!

2020BogOff · 07/03/2021 05:27

Despite all the shouting from the BDs I do think most people are desperate to go back to normal. Pubs with beer gardens are being inundated with bookings, travel industry reported a surge after the roadmap was broadcast. All these things indicate that a huge proportion of the population are not scared and want to go back to normal. I just suspect, like with most things, it's only the extreme shouty types that we hear most from.

ISaySteadyOn · 07/03/2021 07:00

True.
Good morning, everyone. Survived zoom with my parents, but it was really hard. We are so diametrically opposed. I had to keep my mouth shut for the sake of civility. First time I was glad of a bad internet connection!

For the last two weeks despite eating well and exercising (6 days a week, mix of core, yoga, GRIT and body combat) I am putting on weight.
Discovered that the anti depressants my GP put me on to help me sleep cause weight gain.
I feel so fed up.
I hate that I've had to be medicated to help with this mess and now it's going to make me fat.
I know it sounds ridiculously self indulgent but I can't help it.

She gave me a month's worth but I have had nights sleeping without them now (nodded off before I took them) so could I just sack them off?
