'Publicity-shy woman tells the world she's pregnant'

Really, Daily star? I think they should be ashamed of themselves for this!

(Had to make a new thread for this so it isn't lost in the other one).

Just saw this in the shop! 'Yes we won't mention her name and will paste a stupid black strip over their eyes like it's not obvious who they are (That's it, lawsuit avoided!) and still say what we want to say', which is to invite public sneering and hatred.

And what's with everyone yapping about her wanting privacy yet sharing things (that she wants to share)? I'm pretty sure those can go hand in hand and most famous people want that.

You're giving the Daily Star the publicity they want. The Daily Star are giving the person in question the publicity she wants. It goes round and round.

Sirzy · 15/02/2021 09:42

It’s an awful headline but I wouldn’t expect anything else from a paper like that.

They where never going to be able to keep a new baby secret from the world even if they wanted to so they have released the news how they wanted to.

Good luck to them!

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 09:46

But that's the thing, I think. I don't think they want to keep everything a secret, just that they want to share what they want to share and keep some things private. Yet some people are making it out to seem as if it's one or the other or like it's such a terrible thing to want when even the Queen does this.

They've got a point.

Plenty of celebs have gone full term, and in some cases even given birth, without the world knowing or explicitly being told.

This pair moan that they want a private life then ensure it's plastered across the worlds media.

Meghan and Harry don't want privacy they want control.

BlueTimes · 15/02/2021 09:49

I don’t think Meghan ever said she didn’t want publicly or a quiet life. She wanted to be able to control the type of publicity she has and monetise it.

Lynora · 15/02/2021 09:50

I'm sure the press would have noticed and splashed it all over the papers had they not announced it.

lubeybooby · 15/02/2021 09:53

Harry wants privacy too, and it's his announcement too - why pick on Megan?

Why pick on her full stop, but particularly when it's such a mutual creation like a new child

Also they can't win either way, if she just birthed a child in secret the press would attack her as well when it came out - what are they meant to do exactly? Disgusting.

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 09:54

It's really not about them publishing it - I'm pretty sure their news is free for all once it's published by them.

It's the whole 'she wants privacy yet announces things publicly' and them thinking 'well we won't bother to use your names too' (Not sure if it has to do with a court case though?) that's just ridiculous.

@lubeybooby Quite!

This with bells on!

Hell must have frozen over as I completely agree with the Daily Star.

Harry and Meghan want monetised, controlled publicity, which is therefore only positive and supportive of them.

I don’t think the world does or should work like that, especially for the rich and famous.

Ohnomoreno · 15/02/2021 09:55

She'd be criticised if she saved someone's life.

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 09:55

Pretty sure the Queen's PR works like that.

What's wrong with wanting control over what people know about you?

There are plenty of celebs who do just that too.

There is a difference between a private life and a public life, they are happy to share some details and keep others to themselves. Why shouldn't they be allowed to?

StressedTired · 15/02/2021 09:58

Harry and Meghan are not publicly shy, they just want to be allowed a private life, I don't understand why so many people have a problem with that. If I was pregnant I would want to announce it to the world, and that would be my choice! If I had a baby I would not want photos of it everywhere, and that would be my choice. If I wrote a letter to my father I would not want anyone except him reading it, and so on. Why can't everyone allow them to live a life that they want? This newspaper headline is just ridiculous.

Fuckingcrustybread · 15/02/2021 09:59

@MyOhMySimon
still say what we want to say', which is to invite public sneering and hatred
I think that you may be a bit over invested in this woman's life and to say that the public will steer and hate her is a bit dramatic.
I think that it's quite funny, things are allowed to be funny around this woman aren't they? Or would that come under sneering and hatred?

Lynora · 15/02/2021 10:00

Imagine the frothing if she had given birth in secret. She would have been criticised for that too.

SlummingAngel · 15/02/2021 10:03

Can't speak for non-UK press but it's not the done thing without confirmation here. I mean they might write creatively if they suspect but they don't put and out say it.
ginghamstarfish · 15/02/2021 10:04

So? They do have a good point. No need for us to know, and many of us couldn't care less. Tell the family, keep it discreet, but no need to release photos to every news outlet in the world. It does smack of hypocrisy.

Lynora · 15/02/2021 10:05

So you don't think there would have been photos and is she? isn't she?speculation in the press?

They had no choice but to announce it.

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 10:09

@Fuckingcrystybread First of all, I have no real interest in them or any celeb (just keeping busy on MN, as are you) and it's a bit rich telling someone they're over-invested when you seem to be the one over-invested with your 'I'm allowed to find this woman annoying funny' antics.

Where did I say you can't find her funny or whatever you choose to call it?

I've made 2 threads, this one i wouldn't have made had I not seen this paper today. How many times have you posted on Meghan and Harry threads? I'm sure it's more than twice.

Secondly, if you say there's no public hatred or sneering and it's a bit dramatic, then you probably need to get your eyes and ears checked or you just live in denial. Even I have seen this everywhere and I don't actually follow them/their news.

OP posts:
RunningFromInsanity · 15/02/2021 10:11

I think that’s hilarious, especially the bars over the eyes Grin

Motherdare · 15/02/2021 10:11

They had no choice but to announce it

Indeed, bless them. Pushed into it they were. Come on Harry, get your socks off and lie down in the grass with me. Try to look ethereal will ya? We’ve got no choice - the public demands this!

amateursleuth · 15/02/2021 10:15

And yet you've fed the whole thing by creating this thread, even though you find the article awful. Why can't you just leave them alone Wink

Lynora · 15/02/2021 10:17

I expect you would be just as pissed off and sneery if they suddenly appeared pushing a pram and you hadn't had anything to sneer at for months.
SlummingAngel · 15/02/2021 10:18

@Lynora

It's against IPSO guidelines- Ant McPartlin actually won a judgement against the media for this exact thing.
