'Publicity-shy woman tells the world she's pregnant'

Really, Daily star? I think they should be ashamed of themselves for this!

(Had to make a new thread for this so it isn't lost in the other one).

Just saw this in the shop! 'Yes we won't mention her name and will paste a stupid black strip over their eyes like it's not obvious who they are (That's it, lawsuit avoided!) and still say what we want to say', which is to invite public sneering and hatred.

And what's with everyone yapping about her wanting privacy yet sharing things (that she wants to share)? I'm pretty sure those can go hand in hand and most famous people want that.

I’m not her biggest fan but that’s a bit shitty.
No wonder MM and Harry left The UK

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 10:20

It's the daily star I want to bash, not them. If we can bash Meghan, we can bash the paper tooWink

Again to be clear, this isn't about them posting Meghan and Harry's baby announcement, it's public news now. It's about how they did it/what they wrote.

Instead of 'Harry and Meghan announces pregnancy' or whatever (which i wouldn't have cared to look at as I ignore most news about them), it's this ridiculous 'You can't make this up...publicity-shy woman blah blah blah'. Why report it in that snarky way? Oh yes I know, it's trendy to bash Meghan and it will sell papers.

The weird way people think they have ownership of the royal family is seriously bloody weird - getting angry because they want to have some control over what becomes public knowledge and what doesn’t... I’m pretty sure most here wouldn’t want to live with the scrutiny and intrusive bullshit they’re expected to tolerate.

Why does the Daily Star only call the woman of the couple out? I thought it was a joint announcement by a couple both of whom wished to step back from their public role.

Men get away with so much.

PinkTonic · 15/02/2021 10:21

@MyOhMySimon

But that's the thing, I think. I don't think they want to keep everything a secret, just that they want to share what they want to share and keep some things private. Yet some people are making it out to seem as if it's one or the other or like it's such a terrible thing to want when even the Queen does this.
It was never privacy they wanted, it was that they wanted to sell it. You can’t do that in the royal family so....
silentpool · 15/02/2021 10:22

I thought it was pretty funny actually. Meghan and Harry have made such a fuss over the Press generally but when they want to release something cheesy like this, we should all doff our caps and wave our flags. I would be quite pleased to see nothing from the two former members of the Royal Family again.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 15/02/2021 10:24

@Ohnomoreno

She'd be criticised if she saved someone's life.
Yup! I'm she's realised she can't win, poor cow. I hope she has a more restful time of it this time round.
foodiefil · 15/02/2021 10:31

STOP SAYING THEY MOAN ABOUT HAVING A PRIVATE LIFE

any time I read that I think "that person is THICK"

There is a difference between being part of the royal family and your life being public property and all the things you have to do and living a life outside of the royal family and their protocols but still being famous

Do people understand that???

They are still in the public eye. This way, they're in charge.

I suspect anybody who says that about them to be a racist as well by the way. Even if you have a "black friend".

Ikora · 15/02/2021 10:31

BlueTimes has written the most truthful and sensible post I have ever read about what they really want.

What the Daily Star as much as it pains me to agree with them is sarcastic but just how it is.

Roussette · 15/02/2021 10:34

Yep. no wonder they left. Don't blame them one little bit. Harry looks happier than he has done for years. Good on them.

PinkTonic · 15/02/2021 10:37

I expect you would be just as pissed off and sneery if they suddenly appeared pushing a pram and you hadn't had anything to sneer at for months.

You genuinely can’t see any middle way between suddenly appearing pushing a pram and that photo? Give over.

Lynora · 15/02/2021 10:41

However they did or didn't announce it she would have been sneered at and criticised.

Because poor Harry has been led astray by a bad woman. 🙄

Jolitofinjo · 15/02/2021 10:45

It's the blatant misogyny that's the problem. "Publicity shy couple" could have pointed out any perceived hypocrisy. Laying the blame at Meghan's door just emphasises what women in the public eye have to put up with.
Harry is in the photo, is included in the announcement and presumably had a lot to do with conceiving the baby, but let's not that stand in the way of hammering Meghan.

Roussette · 15/02/2021 10:46

There are many saying on these H&M threads... why did they announce it we won't care, they didn't have to announe it blah blah...

The outcry if she didn't would have been a sight to behold. 🤣

Yep. The MM haters would have had a field day if she had kept it a secret.
StrangerHereMyself · 15/02/2021 10:54

Are all the posters who are shocked to find themselves agreeing with the Daily Star particularly keen Boris/Matt Hancock/Dominic Cummings fans?
I always scroll eagerly down the BBC News front pages listing every day to see what the DS have come up with. They specialise in front pages which are
A) mean
B) unfair
C) on a good day absolutely hilarious

I think this was unfair but the joke was well executed.

AlwaysLatte · 15/02/2021 10:58

I'm not obsessed with the royals or famous people as some seem to be, but surely it's possible for someone in the public eye to be allowed to release information about their private life as they wish and not be hounded for unsolicited photos? Fair enough if it's the opening of a new film or something but I've never thought it was okay to just put a camera in someone's face while they're in their garden of the park, etc. Especially when there are children involved.

Mummy195 · 15/02/2021 11:33

@PinkTonic

I've been hearing a lot of this monetising aspect here on MN. How much did they sell these photos for? How much did they sell their other pictures for in the past?

Just curious, because as far as I know, it's the rags that have been cashing in on MM pictures before. But now, I have been seeing pics of H&M at charities, with said charities stating that they have been getting more donations since they are associated with H&M.

Fully agree here.

I think Piers Morgan and his circus of RR clowns have said it enough. If you say something enough times, everyone will start to believe it. Just like the 'hypocrite' mantra nonsense.

And to your last point, I could never qwhite understand why MM is constantly criticised for the same things that all other royals do.

Roussette · 15/02/2021 11:59

That aspect in your last para really infuriates me. On t'other thread someone is talked about how awful they put out a stylised photo and it should just be an announcement.
When I talked of the three stylised photos that Eugenie put out (engagement, pregnancy, birth) and asked if it's OK for her to do but not M&H, no answer.

Mummy195 · 15/02/2021 12:18

Haha, MM was dragged for the photos of baby Archie's feet etc. every talk show made such a big deal on this.

The other day I came across Loose Women on youtube, literally, being all emotional at how lovely Eugenie's baby hand picture was Grin

JingsMahBucket · 15/02/2021 12:33

@Mummy195

Yes... it’s qwhite interesting how she’s always attacked for doing exactly the same things other royals got praised for doing. I wonder why... 🤔🧐

MyOhMySimon · 15/02/2021 13:31

The stylised photo comment was just laughable. Criticising how people filter their photo now? Let's go criticize every photo filter and style ever then.

If it was just an announcement, I'm sure there'll be something to say too.

Criticize people all you want but let their be substance to your criticism, otherwise just call it what it is - 'we just like to criticize her for nothing actually because we don't like her'.

OP posts:
SqeakyHindge · 15/02/2021 13:31

It’s another reason not to read that rag.

I don’t find it funny, it’s the kind of behaviour you expect from a bitter narcissistic ex who just won’t leave you alone.

peak2021 · 15/02/2021 14:04

If they were living in the UK and still carrying out Royal duties, and if the Duchess of Sussex was British born and raised, I am sure the headline would have been very different.
