'Publicity-shy woman tells the world she's pregnant'

Really, Daily star? I think they should be ashamed of themselves for this!

(Had to make a new thread for this so it isn't lost in the other one).

Just saw this in the shop! 'Yes we won't mention her name and will paste a stupid black strip over their eyes like it's not obvious who they are (That's it, lawsuit avoided!) and still say what we want to say', which is to invite public sneering and hatred.

And what's with everyone yapping about her wanting privacy yet sharing things (that she wants to share)? I'm pretty sure those can go hand in hand and most famous people want that.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/02/2021 14:07

Some people, like the Star's "journalists", are too thick to grasp the difference between not wanting constant press intrusion and being publicity shy.

CallmeAngelina · 15/02/2021 14:17

Didn't we all know she was pregnant anyway? Isn't that why they got their court case delayed for a year (before the judge settled it last week)?
They don't want people expressing interest in their lives? Suits me fine. I could not be less interested nowadays, to be honest. I've seen headlines in various publications today and scrolled on by - apart from this one.

rosetylersbiggun · 15/02/2021 15:10

They've never claimed to want privacy for themselves, only for their child.

It was never privacy they wanted, it was that they wanted to sell it. You can’t do that in the royal family so....

Haha, what planet do you live on where other royals don't monetise their status?

It's not Meghan flogging tacky pyjamas and tea-towels with crowns and corgis on them, and it's not Meghan who tries to arrange dodgy deals selling access to royals for cash.

@Floreatfloruit

Why does the Daily Star only call the woman of the couple out? I thought it was a joint announcement by a couple both of whom wished to step back from their public role.

Men get away with so much.

Because Harry is our beloved Prince of the Realm, and Meghan is the American hussy who stole him from us! AngryAngryWink
Roussette · 15/02/2021 16:03

and it's not Meghan who tries to arrange dodgy deals selling access to royals for cash

Oh yes. There's quite a list for that.
And not selling milk to the Chinese with a palace in the background. That was ludicrous.

amateursleuth · 15/02/2021 17:54

Meghan is now also doing an interview with Oprah. Exclusive primetime special. I look forward to hearing more about those oat milk lattes.

Moondust001 · 15/02/2021 18:14

I'm a staunch republican and would relocate the royal family to a council estate in a flash. But I am fascinated at how many people here subscribe to the Kate "fairy princess" and Meghan "wicked witch" nonsense. There are entire bloody thread dedicated to what Kate wore or what a manipulative cow Meghan is. And everyone sits around slagging off Meghan for wanting to make money. Well, my God, hands up all of you who don't want to make money??? Anyone here dedicated to the hermit lifestyle?

The joke here is that the people who are making the most out of this, and doing all the manipulating, are the press. All of them. And laughing all the way to the bank at the idiots who fund them to rip apart people's lives and decide who gets to be good and who gets to be naughty.

Meanwhile, back on the feminism board, someone, somewhere might be wondering why we continue to subsidise the demonisation of women....

JanetheObscure · 15/02/2021 18:21

@Moondust001

Yes!

"Eugenie" was trending on Twitter this morning because people were piling in to accuse Meghan (not Harry and Meghan) of upstaging Princess Eugenie, who had given birth several days ago.

  1. First I'd heard of Eugenie's child, so it can't have been huge news when it happened. 2) If I'd just had a baby and someone in my family announced their pregnancy a few days later, I would just be very happy for them.
BalloonSlayer · 15/02/2021 18:29

I don't understand what's wrong with wanting to control your own narrative.

Eg having been through the distressing experience of having a miscarriage, wanting to keep it quiet and wait till you are emotionally ready to share your story, in your own words, in the hope it might make others feel less alone. As opposed to being papped as you are wheeled into the hospital in floods of tears.

And then wanting to keep your next pregnancy quiet for as long as possible in case something goes wrong, thus having to try to avoid gossip and paparazzi. Then you think you had better let people know but beware!!! two cousins are having babies so you don't want to be accused of thunder-stealing again, so best to sneak it in quickly between the two births.

It must be exhausting. I am thrilled for them, especially after the miscarriage, I wish them all the very best.

RightOnTheEdge · 15/02/2021 18:40

Its horrible! Fair enough if they want to make a point about the privacy thing (not that I agree with that either) but there is a man in that photo too!
The father of the baby who jointly took part in the photo shoot and jointly released the news.
Yet not one word about him. Its all about blaming the woman.

amateursleuth · 15/02/2021 19:16

Well, my God, hands up all of you whodon'twant to make money?

Maybe people who already have shitloads, more than they could ever need, and can sit around being waited on in palaces and mansions? Or maybe not.

Becles · 15/02/2021 23:31

How have H&M monetised their child? Happy to hear specific examples, and also any that aren't in keeping with the actions of other royal grandchildren...

BananaPop2020 · 15/02/2021 23:56

The sooner we get rid of the Royal family full stop, the better! Then none of this nonsense would matter.

saraclara · 16/02/2021 00:01

@Lynora

Imagine the frothing if she had given birth in secret. She would have been criticised for that too.
Jeeze, can you imagine?

Choruses of "but they OWE us!"

PickAChew · 16/02/2021 00:03

I wouldn't wipe my arse on that rag. Such a waste of trees.

Mockolate · 16/02/2021 01:56

Bloody awful, why give them the airtime? (Daily S that is)
So they want to be in control of when the news come out on their pregnancy details.
So what?!
I swear, the press are just in tantrumming mode as they had the common sense to get out and do things on their terms.

homebase123 · 16/02/2021 02:25

Wow how utterly vile. I saw Andrew Brady's instagram posts about Caroline Flack earlier, he shared examples of the horrible headlines she was subjected to which drove her to suicide and I can't believe that they're still getting away with this shit.

This couple (not woman) allowed their friend to share a beautiful announcement of their pregnancy - they haven't even monetised it. What exactly have they done wrong?

"Well if she's happy for people to know she's pregnant she should be ok with sharing her private letters", is that the logic here? FFS.

katy1213 · 16/02/2021 02:35

Brilliant headline!

Mockolate · 16/02/2021 02:37

Brilliant headline!

In what way?

Quirrelsotherface · 16/02/2021 06:39

Anyone who can't see through Meghan Markle must be the type of person who let's people walk all over them in everyday life. How can you seriously see that video of the lion king premiere, where Harry accosts the head of Disney to give Meghan a job and think otherwise? Likewise, does nobody think it odd that Oprah and George Clooney were sat where Meghan's family and friends should have been at the wedding. Wake up.

Teana89 · 16/02/2021 07:42

Zara and Mike don't have titles or royal charities.

Morgan12 · 16/02/2021 07:52

I don't think they had to announce it tbh. They claim they want a private life but their actions say otherwise.

Kylie Jenner is the most famous woman on the planet and she had a baby without any publicity at all. It can be done.

They just didn't want to do it.

Also I do think the announcement coming so soon after Eugenies was crass of them.

PegasusReturns · 16/02/2021 08:20

I thought it was funny but I’d prefer the ire to have been directed at the couple rather than just Meghan.

Their fame is not a product of what they do: they’re not movie stars or CEOs; musicians or sports stars. They - their lifestyle - is the commodity. And when you are the commodity I think you have to accept that controlling the narrative is impossible.

As a couple they don’t have to be in the public eye, they could live a relatively low key life but, as is their right, but they have chosen not to.

SoupDragon · 16/02/2021 09:03

Kylie Jenner is the most famous woman on the planet

I bet she isn't.

Radio4Rocks · 16/02/2021 09:12

Brilliantly staged managed by an experienced actress. Glad some can see through it.
