'Publicity-shy woman tells the world she's pregnant'

Really, Daily star? I think they should be ashamed of themselves for this!

(Had to make a new thread for this so it isn't lost in the other one).

Just saw this in the shop! 'Yes we won't mention her name and will paste a stupid black strip over their eyes like it's not obvious who they are (That's it, lawsuit avoided!) and still say what we want to say', which is to invite public sneering and hatred.

And what's with everyone yapping about her wanting privacy yet sharing things (that she wants to share)? I'm pretty sure those can go hand in hand and most famous people want that.

Kylie who?

That headline is horrible - unnecessarily spiteful. The 'journalist' who wrote that is presumably not capable of feeling shame!

I do believe that Prince Harry has lost more than he's gained by leaving the UK. I also think it's unreasonable to marry into a royal family and expect total control or to 'leave' but still retain all the privilege that comes with being royal. Let's be honest, Oprah wants to interview them because of their royal connection - that is their selling point. Monetising an institution that you've openly said you want to leave is taking the piss a bit. Still, they wouldn't be the first members of that family to do something tacky.

That said, no one should have their personal letters published or be constantly criticised. It's mean and unnecessary. Everyone is entitled to a degree of privacy and that should include their personal correspondence and when/how/if they release pregnancy announcements.

The headline, whilst mean, is kind of true. You can just announce stuff with words as in “we are expecting a baby in summer (or whenever)”. But the photo is really quite something - professional, stunning backdrop, rather intimate...it was really going to get attention as as that is so obvious you have to think it was intentional.

I don't have strong feelings on the royal family and think the overall point the paper was making is mildly amusing, but it should have been directed at the couple.

My main irritation with the pair of them is that they don't want to be royal and do all the associated duties, but then they want to sell themselves as a product where the only USP they have is the royal connection. I liked Harry's work with the forces and forces charities because it's something he clearly cared about. Ad a couple they seem to want to be professional celebrities whilst complaining if the press aren't pushing the narrative they want. That isn't how it works. If you sell your lifestyle as the product then you don't get to complain if people aren't fawning over everything you do.

Giggorata · 16/02/2021 11:12

I thought the headline was amusing,, as is today's about the forthcoming Oprah interview.

BlueTimes · 16/02/2021 11:36

@Morgan12

I don't think they had to announce it tbh. They claim they want a private life but their actions say otherwise.

Kylie Jenner is the most famous woman on the planet and she had a baby without any publicity at all. It can be done.

They just didn't want to do it.

Also I do think the announcement coming so soon after Eugenies was crass of them.

Um, Kylie Jenner most certainly isn’t. Grin

With stage managed announcements such as this, they bring it all on themselves to be fair.

MyOhMySimon · 16/02/2021 14:12

They all stage-manage things, all of them including the Queen. I think they get a "stage-management" accusation because theirs is more Hollywood-style, more creative (if you will) and not really the sort a typical member of the RF would do. So it's unusual and of course, Harry didn't bring the Hollywood/American style. Everyone dumps it on Meghan as yet another reason to hate her.

To me, Meghan has a vision of the sort of celeb life she wants to live and that is what she's going for. She won't let the RF or the press get in her way. Harry seems to me like he also always wanted a different life but being brought up strictly to follow the RF rules, he couldnt rock the boat fully (He rocked it half way a few times). Meghan gave him the opportunity and courage to do what he's always wanted to do. Harry doesn't strike me as someone who would be pushed to leave the RF and Britain if he didn't want to do it. He has a mind of his own and even seems rather controlling or headstrong in some way. Meghan balances him out.

Don't we all have a vision of our chosen/ideal life? Who wouldn't go for it if they were able to? I don't begrudge them the life they want, whatever it is. People should live and let live.

I don’t begrudge them either, but it can’t be denied that there is the rank smell of hypocrisy here.....with all of them.

MyOhMySimon · 16/02/2021 14:31

With all of them

I agree.

This last year has really highlighted how irrelevant they are in today’s world.

slashlover · 16/02/2021 14:43

@SlummingAngel

They've got a point.

Plenty of celebs have gone full term, and in some cases even given birth, without the world knowing or explicitly being told.

This pair moan that they want a private life then ensure it's plastered across the worlds media.

Meghan and Harry don't want privacy they want control.

Can you imagine if they suddenly appeared with another child?

They've already been accused of having a surrogate, that Archie is a fake etc. Also, when do they appear?

grapewine · 16/02/2021 16:44

Absolutely this. They just didn't get the memo.
