I live in USA, have done for many years. There are certain things you just cant get here so since the rise of amazon, many years ago, I use them. I have just spent $46 for 4 packs of Bisto, $18 for 2 bottles of HP sauce and $12 for a jar of marmite.Oh and $27 for a 6 pack of baked beans. I cant be without baked beans. I cant get over how much they have gone up since last time I bought them, which was only a matter of months ago !!!. I had to unload the branston from my cart cos it was $32 for 3 jars and thank fck I noticed this but a multipack of frazzles ( My husbands favorite and a rare treat) was $8 a good deal thought I till I noticed they wanted $95 for shipping !!!!!!. Had to remove my colemans mint sauce too. I will buy that next month with the Branston.
I didnt even get to look at the chocolate hobnobs or custard creams cos my basket was too expensive before I even got there Sad

Do they not have baked beans in America?! Shock

janeymacaronie · 13/02/2021 01:22

I understand completely op and am with you! I'm in Alaska where we have no British stores. I order things on Amazon all the time and have to hide the prices from my husband! Christmas in particular, mince pies, roses chocolates, Christmas pudding!

Piccalino3 · 13/02/2021 01:27

Do you have a World Market near you? My family live in Cali and get a lot of UK stuff there. I feel your pain though because when I visit I stuff my suitcase full of things I can't get here. Sigh.

febbfad · 13/02/2021 01:46

britsrus.com is local and $5 for Bisto, $3 for beans etc

lighteincastlewindow · 13/02/2021 01:46

Im in Mass Massachusetts? I lived in New York and in all the smaller non-chained but large enough supermarkets they had a foreign section where I got everything I needed sometimes cheaper then back home ironically. (I am Irish and understand the need for certain products).

@psychomath Do they not have baked beans in America?! shock They do indeed have a thing called baked beans but they are not really baked beans as us across the Atlantic recognise them Grin

febbfad · 13/02/2021 01:48

britsrus.com/?product_cat=&s=branston&post_type=product Branston pickle $6

Do they not have baked beans in America?! Shock
Yes, they do.
HawthornLantern · 13/02/2021 01:58

Have you tried British Essentials? I have started getting my Marmite from them since the local stores dried up.

Cameleongirl · 13/02/2021 01:58

American baked beans are in strange sauces, often with brown sugar and bacon mixed in.

OP, there's an organic brand called Amy's that does a decent tin of beans in tomato sauce, might be worth looking out for in local stores www.amys.com/our-foods/organic-vegetarian-baked-beans

Can't help with the Frazzles, I'm afraid.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 13/02/2021 01:59

Do you live near the NH border? I go to the World Market in Salem, NH. I'm not sure how many of those things they have, but they do have a lot of British Food.

endlesssnow · 13/02/2021 02:15

World Market is expensive but not that pricey.
Our local Jewel supermarket has some things.
But not getting back to UK is sad ☹️

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2021 02:17

OOOOH Im only 30 miles from the NH border, closer to that than Boston. I didnt know World Market did food stuff, Ive only ever heard of it for furniture. I will definitely check that out. Salem is like 5 exits from me.

I get most of that stuff in World Market, or on Amazon. You need to set a price watch on camelcamelcamel.com - that will tell you when the price drops to an acceptable level. I paid $24 for 12 tins of heinz beanz recently. We get our weetabix that way now too, since Trader Joes stopped selling it

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2021 02:20

Oh and as to baked beans. Boston baked beans are done in molasses and brown sugar and salt pork. They are good but not " proper" baked beans. I need Heinz baked beans, not Boston baked beans

I sometimes find my local Indian shop sells lots of British items so it's definitely worth a look. I second those who mentioned World Market, you'll save a fortune.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 13/02/2021 03:29

World Market is your friend here.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/02/2021 03:39

@ErrolTheDragon Boston baked beans are nothing like Heinz baked beans. I tried them when I lived in Boston - to my horror they have a huge chunk of pork fat in them Confused and are ridiculously sweet.

OP you need to go to the Irish areas; I used to get loads of the food you're talking about from a great place in New Brighton.

garlicwhorl · 13/02/2021 04:16

I really want to try these Boston beans

mathanxiety · 13/02/2021 04:23

You can get all of that in most Irish shops in the US.

Massachusetts is a state where you are certain to find Irish shops aplenty.

Bisto though - why? Homemade gravy is so easy to make, and delicious.

mathanxiety · 13/02/2021 04:30

Not all US baked beans are Boston- style or 'pork and beans'.

You can get Heinz Vegetarian Beans in US supermarkets - quite similar to good old British baked beans.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/02/2021 04:44

Don't you need to have just done a roast to make your own gravy, so no good for sausages midweek?

Plus it's not as quick and easy as pouring boiling water on gravy powder in a jug.

Amazon are no longer cheaper a lot of the time. They now trade on quick delivery and variety, but are often not the cheapest option.

lighteincastlewindow · 13/02/2021 04:46

It is quite funny how baked beans have become a gold standard, but they really are.

LyndaSnellMBE · 13/02/2021 04:46

Try Goodwoods.com. “Great British Food”. I think they are in TX. Their beans are $1.98 per can

LizFlowers · 13/02/2021 05:01

Well you won't have to buy any more for a while, you are well stocked up.

Stopyourhavering64 · 13/02/2021 05:44

Oo I just fancy baked beans on toast now Grin
