I live in USA, have done for many years. There are certain things you just cant get here so since the rise of amazon, many years ago, I use them. I have just spent $46 for 4 packs of Bisto, $18 for 2 bottles of HP sauce and $12 for a jar of marmite.Oh and $27 for a 6 pack of baked beans. I cant be without baked beans. I cant get over how much they have gone up since last time I bought them, which was only a matter of months ago !!!. I had to unload the branston from my cart cos it was $32 for 3 jars and thank fck I noticed this but a multipack of frazzles ( My husbands favorite and a rare treat) was $8 a good deal thought I till I noticed they wanted $95 for shipping !!!!!!. Had to remove my colemans mint sauce too. I will buy that next month with the Branston.
I didnt even get to look at the chocolate hobnobs or custard creams cos my basket was too expensive before I even got there Sad

I would recommend British Corner Shop. They ship from the UK, so still have charges but are more reasonable than what you're currently paying

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2021 15:16

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will investigate world market as its quite close to me. Im not actually supposed to go to new hampshire at the moment as there is a travel ban in place between the states. That doesnt seem to stop anyone else though so I will see if I can get delivery otherwise I may venture up there once the ban has been lifted. I will investigate the other online places recommended too, as I said amazon has always worked out cheaper up to now.
I know they are not the fanciest of foods but I miss them. I do make my own gravy but use the bisto to thicken and colour it, I buy the powder not the granules and add it to the meat juices. American cookies are not nice and a very limited choice. Chocolate hobnobs are the cookie of the gods. Im only buying marmite cos I cant get bovril. Its for DH as I think its shite and cant understand why he eats it. The frazzles are for him too, again Im not fussed for them they have a weird texture. The baked beans well you just cant not have baked beans can you. Its the law with a pie or a fry up isnt it?
Oh and I paid $47 for a tin of quality street at christmas and $20 for a multipac of frys turkish delight cos its my FAVORITE.
Anyways thank you all for your suggestions and hope you all have a fun and exciting Saturday

I have bought weatabix at Wholefoods before now.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 13/02/2021 15:42

I used to buy a few of those items from Cost Plus World Market They still have HP sauce etc.
My kids hated when I'd stop off there on the way home I'd buy so much stuff, HP beans, McVities, you name it.
Cost plus world market

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2021 15:49

well who knew !!!! Obviously some of you guys. I have just been on the cost plus world market site. I SOOOOOO need to go there, its only like 25 mins from where I live but over the state line and Im not supposed to cross state lines at the moment as Mass has a travel ban to New Hampshire. I dont know if Id get into trouble as my car has Mass plates so it would be obvious Im not a New Hampshire resident. I will go as soon as its lifted though. I thought they only did furniture and rugs and stuff. Im so excited now. THANK YOU

Wow, I’ve never known anyone to actually own up to eating Fry’s Turkish Delight, let alone paying that much for it! (Apart from my late mum, who also used to eat marzipan by the block, she said it meant no one wanted to share it with her!) 😂😂😂😂
TheresOnlyOneJackieWeaver · 13/02/2021 17:01

I’m glad you have found a store you can go to once restrictions allow.
Why not set up your own store ASAP you could clean up......but you may need to hold on for a UK/US trade deal first what with Brexit and all that jazz.

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2021 18:02

Zakana I too eat marzipan by the block Grin

I actually had to start making my own due to the cost though, the christmas cake would have bankrupted me

I knew it! Anyone that can eat the devils food aka Turkish delight would automatically devour marzipan, we used to buy my mum it for Christmas, posh chocolate covered marzipan and petit fours made in pretty fruit shapes and blocks of marzipan for baking any other time! Used to make me heave just thinking about it!
1000umbrellas · 13/02/2021 18:13

I have family in western Mass and their local Stop & Shop had a small British section. I took a photo of it as I was so tickled by HP and hobnobs being marketed as exotic! We were last there 2 years ago and my DCs still dreamily recall Cool Whip, waffles with Mrs Butterworth syrup and Cracker Jack.

mathanxiety · 13/02/2021 18:15

@lighteincastlewindow, Smile DD2 asked DD1 to bring her as many boxes of Cheezits as she could fit into her luggage when she was doing a semester abroad at UCL and DD1 announced she was going to visit her there.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/02/2021 18:17

Must be nice to have so much money to spend on fripperies.

DavidsSchitt · 13/02/2021 18:31

Oh @Chicchicchicchiclana ffs, don't be so bitter. OP, hope you get over the border ASAP but really, custard creams?! You know that's what UK prisoners get fed.

Con biscuits. Raise your standards

www.marinosdeli.com/gallery

Take a look at this gallery, especially photos #16 and 17.

The Irish selection is available at the Centre Street location.

You could give them a call to verify.

elp30 · 13/02/2021 18:33

@OnSilverStars

I feel you!
I lived in England from 1995-2004 from Texas.
It was torture because internet shopping was not really a thing until much, much later. I had to learn to do without so many "comfort" treats.
What was worse is that I grew up in a Mexican-American household so living without tortillas or chiles was seriously not having any connection to my culture and way of eating for nine years.

Thank God for the Internet!

Pipandmum · 13/02/2021 18:48

But baked beans are American. Are you looking for a particular brand? My sister lives in Boston and can get most of the stuff you mention.
Personally I wish I could get Hostess cupcakes (they sell twinkies) and Pillbury Chocolate chip cookie dough here!

drspouse · 13/02/2021 18:53

I think Boston etc have Irish foods aisles if you are not in that part of Mass and can make a trip. I certainly spotted them and thought it hilarious when over there once.

drspouse · 13/02/2021 18:54

American baked beans are COMPLETELY different.

Us as well 😀

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 13/02/2021 22:02

Now we are back living in thre UK, Dh keeps looking for Swiss Miss hot chocolate he hates the cadbury one and others we've tried here.
Van Camps pork and beans are a Dh favorite too, yuck! I used to take out the blob of pork fat and add a squirt of ketchup to make them palatable for my beans on toast. Heinz vegetarian are OK too.
My boys were fans of chef boyardee tinned anything. Wierd taste to me.

Chemenger · 14/02/2021 12:05

@drspouse

American baked beans are COMPLETELY different.
Totally different, much sweeter for a start (the tinned ones) I’ve had beans home cooked that were delicious.
Chemenger · 14/02/2021 12:11

There is an Irish grocery somewhere in Boston, I never made it there. Rumour has it that they sell back bacon amongst other things. I think it might be out towards Jamaica Plain?

HurricaneBitch · 14/02/2021 17:32

You do realise you're now doomed forever no matter where you live. I'm British, lived in the states for many years, missed British food in the US, miss US food now I'm in the UK. You can get good good both sides of the Atlantic, it's the shit foods you miss, lol. I buy Hidden Valley Ranch, Velveeta shells and cheese etc from Amazon.
