I live in USA, have done for many years. There are certain things you just cant get here so since the rise of amazon, many years ago, I use them. I have just spent $46 for 4 packs of Bisto, $18 for 2 bottles of HP sauce and $12 for a jar of marmite.Oh and $27 for a 6 pack of baked beans. I cant be without baked beans. I cant get over how much they have gone up since last time I bought them, which was only a matter of months ago !!!. I had to unload the branston from my cart cos it was $32 for 3 jars and thank fck I noticed this but a multipack of frazzles ( My husbands favorite and a rare treat) was $8 a good deal thought I till I noticed they wanted $95 for shipping !!!!!!. Had to remove my colemans mint sauce too. I will buy that next month with the Branston.
I didnt even get to look at the chocolate hobnobs or custard creams cos my basket was too expensive before I even got there Sad

At those prices I think I'd manage without!

Buffs · 14/02/2021 18:23

I am British and have lived in the US for a while. I cannot bear spending a fortune for food that is cheap in the UK. There is plenty of decent food here you can replace it with. I even make my own Christmas puddings now.

MizMoonshine · 14/02/2021 18:32

Fucking hell OP. I'll do you a shop and mail it over.

Kaia20 · 14/02/2021 18:39

I think if I had money to spend $27 on baked beans then $95 for shipping wouldn’t bother me much lol

Madcatgirl · 14/02/2021 18:42

Nrtft.

Is this shop in New York any good for you USA based people?

Fireflylane · 14/02/2021 18:43

Why don't you make your own gravy? Its so much nicer and so easy to make Confused once you have made your own you will never buy awful bisto again.

zucchinieggplant · 14/02/2021 18:45

I'll check where my mum used to go, but I think it was this place in Weston. https://britishdelights.com/ I seem to think she found somewhere in Nashua as well. She's since moved to Ohio and now brings a spare suitcase to fill with jars marmite Grin she's running low now since her visit last March was cancelled Sad

zucchinieggplant · 14/02/2021 18:46

*Westford, not Weston

Carpedimum · 14/02/2021 18:50

You’ve reminded me of an amusing interaction I had in a big Barnes & Noble in Michigan... I was at the counter & the assistant said “oh my gawsh, are you British?! Shelly! Shelly! She’s British!” as the other assistant approached positively beaming with excitement to see the British specimen. “We need to know, from like, a real British person, do you actually eat Marmite?” They had endearingly, imploring expressions and said they’d heard about the evil brown gloop in college. I admitted that, yes marmite on toast was a delicious savoury snack, which they received with surprise and a little glee, even said they’d try it. I then added that I also add a spoon when I’m making gravy. The atmosphere changed suddenly, you’d have thought I said I added the souls of unborn children to gravy! It makes me chuckle to this day. Wink

endlesssnow · 14/02/2021 18:58

Though to be fair in USA gravy marmite would be even more disgusting than it usually is! ( not a marmite fan)
I was pretty surprised when a peppered white sauce was described as gravy to me the first time.

PourMeAVino · 14/02/2021 19:05

My local Asda does 6 packs of frazzles for £1 - I can always send you some (if I'm allowed of course) WinkWink

Gilly12345 · 14/02/2021 20:57

I think you have more money than sense, I have been to the US quite a few times and their products are just as good.

langley281082 · 14/02/2021 21:05

Omg!! I’d be happy to help in any way I can , I live in the UK so I’m guessing postage would be massively expensive but if you do need someone to send stuff over give me a shout. X

AdoraBell · 14/02/2021 21:36

Hope you find a better source OP

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 14/02/2021 22:02

I would be game for an international food exchange.

I have been craving a coconut cream Easter egg. What I want is a the kind of egg that is like a solid block; not like a Bounty bar. And Constant Comment Tea.

Not sure what Frazzles are but off to investigate.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 14/02/2021 22:11

😂 I can tell who the expats are on this thread by how seriously they take food from home 😂

Bottl · 14/02/2021 22:24

@LunaLula83 - when I lived in london, my nearest big Tesco sold Timtams - love them!!

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 14/02/2021 22:26

What a great thread - I've got some good places to go now for my British foods.

theoldtrout01876 - have you tried Golden Oreos? They're almost the same as custard creams.

Also you'll be fine in NH with Mass plates. Live Free or Die, right? Wear a mask though.

I can live quite happily without Bisto, Frazzles, Ribena etc. But Marmite... I would pay whatever it took to make sure I have Marmite in my cupboard.

HurricaneBitch · 14/02/2021 23:19

@Carpedimum you should have seen the looks of disgust I used to get in the US when I told people I didn't drink tea, in fact loathe the stuff. I fair took the wind out of their sails, lol

Harmonypuss · 15/02/2021 01:46

A multi pack (not sure whether we there are 6 or 8 in it) here in Birmingham, UK is about £1.

Surely,i f you've got friends or family here that would be prepared to package and send stuff over it would be far cheaper and I'm sure that someone would do it for you if you cover the costs.

I would be careful about having the heavier stuff like beans etc shipped, purely because of the weight but 5 multi-packs of Frazzles would be under 1kg, so shouldn't be too expensive to send. I know I sent something that was about 5kg a few months ago to someone in the US and it only cost about £25 with tracking.

Packages sent as 'gifts' don't normally incur any taxes.

Harmonypuss · 15/02/2021 01:49

AlfonsoTheTerrible .... Frazzles are smoky bacon flavoured crisps/corn snacks that are striped to look like little rashers of bacon.

Ritascornershop · 15/02/2021 01:51

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to make an occasional trip across the border? In my part of Canada all that is easily available. Sorry if it’s been suggested (probably has).

Skone · 15/02/2021 02:52

I miss cheetos. Not the puffed ones, but the crunchy ones. I saw them in the American sweet shop on Oxford Street for £10 a bag. Outrageous

schmidnot · 15/02/2021 06:14

I order items from the British Food Depot. Prices are so much less expensive than Amazon. britishfooddepot.com/
