Sitting here waiting for the man to repair my heating and I thought I’d start a new book. It’s an out of print one from the 1970s that I’d been searching for ages. I picked it up and flipped through to find a rather surprising bookmark. I’ll post it a bit later just to keep you all guessing. 😀

I wonder though, have you ever flipped through a book and found something odd, surprising, intriguing or unexpected? I would love to hear about it. 🙂

@iklboo

never mind the picture of a man doing a poo on a chair.

Erm..... he's not doing a poo.

Yes, I know Grin

But I wasn't going to type "never mind the picture of a man lowering himself onto a bockwurst and some schnitzel" now, was I?

StCharlotte · 12/01/2021 19:09

Blimey.

Thank you, OP. That was an excellent reveal! Are you going to use it as your bookmark? You really can’t get rid of it now

toocold54 · 12/01/2021 19:20

In it was a love letter from a woman to another; given the time it was printed in and obvious age of the letters such a relationship was unthinkable. The letter was heartbreaking.

Wow what an amazing/sad find.

@draughtycatflap

Brace yourselves...

‘OLIVER + ANT CHAIR’ by Stefan Thiel.

Semjon contemporary, Berlin.

Is that a dildo or is he having a big poo? It's gloriously odd!
blacksax · 12/01/2021 20:03

It's a knockwurst sausage containing the painting of The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies by Van Klomp.

DinosApple · 12/01/2021 20:14

Lol I looked at it and thought Oo I have one of those... An ant chair Grin.

Mine is a three legged version, which I assume would be pretty unstable for lowering oneself onto a dildo. It's pretty unstable to just sit on full stop, let alone with other distractions!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 12/01/2021 20:15

Do you know, that actually was worth the wait

Even more difficult if you've got two chairs; far too easy to fall between two stools.

Speaking of which...this isn't so much 'doing a number two' as 'doing a number fourteen'.

@chipperfish

If that's the bookshop I think it is then the necrophilia organ donor cards were flyers from a goth night, I think I still have a couple lying around somewhere! Nothing dodgy actually going on (as far as I know!)

bravotango · 12/01/2021 20:40

@biddybird it was an internal flight in New Zealand - did you leave it there!! Now that would be some coincidence! It was around 9 years ago Grin

EsmesRedPetticoat · 12/01/2021 20:53

Just come back to the thread to see the answer and, well, that beats even my asbestos tea towel advert!

😳

Therainisback · 12/01/2021 20:55

SixesAndEights

A photograph of a woman lying naked on a double bed. Not sexually posed, just lying there quite naturally.

This was in a second hand bookshop in Buxton.
Ooh was that Scriveners? Brilliant bookshop😊

Yes, it definitely my most favourite bookmark! See you don’t get all this with these Kindle malarkey’s!

Don't tell me the opposite of an Ant chair is a Deck Chair.

biddybird · 12/01/2021 23:23

@bravotango Ah, it couldn't be my 4-leaf clover, then (I've never been to New Zealand).

guffaux · 13/01/2021 00:35

I once found a pig outline in a library book.

I’ll try find it then post a picture on here.

The Little Oxford Bookshop that used to be in the covered market was brilliant for these. The owner never checked inside books, just priced them up and put them out. I bought a copy of the Crow poems once that was full of newspaper clippings. Someone had painstakingly cut out loads of theatre reviews and underlined all the bitchiest comments in pencil Grin

Shock I used to have a block of notes that were that shape! What was the book? Maybe it's one I gave away?
