My US cousin is a massive fan of Trump. I literally don't get the appeal.

Every elected Republican that supported Trump in his baseless allegations of electoral fraud shares responsibility for this. They caused this. The people out there protesting have been lied to by the sitting President and by elected officials and told to come out and protest.

Depending on whether they are looking at their phones, maybe not? Some of them do seem quite calm and oblivious. CNN quite behind though.

Sky News not yet confirming anything about the shots fired though reporting it as unconfirmed.

I think the most shocking thing is that this isn’t to support any serious political cause it’s all about conspiracy theories.

If any senior Republican believed the fraud claims they wouldn’t have left the legal cases to Giuliani et al, but it was politically convenient to pretend that the cases might have merit.

They’re being sent in now. I’d imagine that the National Guard were asked to come in and bolster the capitol police much earlier, possibly after Trump went out and addressed the protesters in person.

It’s amazing that thousands of armed white people can descend on the Capitol, force their way into the building and not be stopped.

Sounds like your cousin supports Trump more as some form of religious or cult-like belief than a reasoned political opinion. It baffles me.
