How to you "visualise" a year?

I was talking to dh about how I picture a year in my mind, and he doesn't do this. His year is just one month after another in a straight line.
Mine is a circle (I'll try and attach a picture)

The whole bottom edge is the summer holidays and the top Christmas. It's completely disproportionate to the timescale! I've always viewed my years in my minds eye like this.

Anyone else?

How to you "visualise" a year?

Amd the straight line is slightly to me left as if I am standing left of January and looking ahead at a slight angle - ie I am not on the line itself.

Meredithgrey1 · 02/01/2021 19:11

I visualise an oval shape, like an egg on its side. With summer on the left end, Christmas on the right, October/November on the bottom.

HeronLanyon · 02/01/2021 19:11

This is a fascinating thread op !!

Wiglio · 02/01/2021 19:13

Linear with punctuations for the seasons
I’d have to rethink if I were to live abroad

inquietant · 02/01/2021 19:13

Anti clockwise is all wrong ShockShockShock

My year starts in September, always has.

chocolateallday · 02/01/2021 19:13

This is fascinating! I visualise a clock face with august at the top, orangey yellow and December/January at the bottom dark blue almost black. Always thought it was just me and my love for the summer!

inquietant · 02/01/2021 19:13

@HeronLanyon

This is a fascinating thread op !!
Agree!
HeronLanyon · 02/01/2021 19:14

Are we allowed to have a thread of the year on 2nd January ?! Grin

LividLovely · 02/01/2021 19:17

From left to right but 3D, like bad 80s fonts, with like black galaxies behind the months and with the sooner months slightly bigger proportionally.

Obviously.

TheChampagneGalop · 02/01/2021 19:21

I visualise a year the same way but clockwise. Also a week is in a straight line.

Whenwillow · 02/01/2021 19:23

This is brilliant. My yearstretches out in a line away from me and slightly to the left. Last year is the same but behind me. The months are all different colours but muted ones which I can't describe. But Jan/Feb are greyish, and August is red. Sept is yellow.
Then if I imagine a particular month, it opens out - bit like clicking on a computer image which enlarges
Do we all have colours for days of the week? I spoke to my adult son about this and he does too, but his days are a different colour to mine.
Just asked DH and he looked at me as if I've just grown two heads.

Pascha · 02/01/2021 19:23

You are all wrong. January to July go straight up, August is on a right, upward, shallow slope and September to December go right and straight.

Dec 31st is attached to Jan 1st of the following year.

swapsicles · 02/01/2021 19:25

Mines a straight line,
I did wonder if it has something to do with the classrooms where you learned these things as a child and the wall displays of things like numbers, seasons and months of the year and the format, shapes and colours in which they were displayed.
With numbers I see 1-10 in a line 11-20 directly underneath and everything else trailing off after 20.

Whenwillow · 02/01/2021 19:25

Yes my December is attached to the following January too, and December is divided into 3 weeks, then a Christmas tree then another week.

couldthisbeit · 02/01/2021 19:38

Love this thread!!
My year is a backwards capital D - December is the top right pint and January moves down the curve to the left - so my year is anti clockwise. September is at the bottom of the straight line.
Always thought everyone saw things like this....
My weeks are a capital D laying flat on the straight line, which is the weekend and the week moves anti clockwise up the curve.
Days also have odd and even and their own colours.

CoolAsACourgette · 02/01/2021 19:40

4x3 grid (ie Jan-April across the top) but how I 'see' it is dependent on where I am on the grid. I'm like a little marker on a board game moving through the year.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/01/2021 19:40

You made me close my eyes and visualize my year:

It's a line but starts with December

DasPepe · 02/01/2021 19:42

Mine is more like a oval, plus it spirals up, with the new year going up over the previous years.
July and August are on either side of the bend opposite .

HeronLanyon · 02/01/2021 19:43

My year this year has a bit of an odd start in my mind due to current shitshow - my summer and autumn are a bit further away than usual this time Confused

DasPepe · 02/01/2021 19:44

I forgot to say it’s anticlockwise. Also I move along the spiral as the year progresses.

But my weeks are straight

BeanieB2020 · 02/01/2021 19:44

Mine is exactly the same as yours!

Northernsoullover · 02/01/2021 19:46

Mine is a backwards line too. My weeks are linear but the days are downwards.

Next to that would be Tues on the left if it

Tuesday to the LEFT of Monday????

This is even more Shock than an as to clockwise year!

jambeforeclottedcream · 02/01/2021 19:51

I visualise my year in a clockwise version or your cycle

I also work in a school so it's largely defined by the academic year. And have spent the last 23 years either in education or working in it, it's become my internal clock

OnceBitten25 · 02/01/2021 19:53

@BikeRunSki that's how I visualise it too 😀
