Strange Surnames

Used to work in customer services. Three surnames have never left my brain:
Mrs Wildgoose
Mr Gotobed
Mr and Mrs D’eath.

Please share the weird and wonderful surnames you own or have heard. Apologies if your surname is one I’ve listed.

That's the one. Not the same years but some overlap.

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 11:15

But, working in a secondary school I’m quite happy that I have a boring surname

In case someone laughs at your name? Rather hypocritical really.

WiseOwlWan · 21/12/2020 11:16

I knew of parents (Byrnes) who discussed the wisdom of calling their son William Byrne, so they GOT it, but ... they said they discussed it and decid3d it would be fine!! 😮

Gatekeeper · 21/12/2020 11:25

I remember as a young un of 17 and in my first job having to ring some chap called Mr Youren. I started laughing so hard my colleague had to take over whilst I got hauled off for a telling off!
Next lot of calls were to a Miss Freak and a Mrs Hoare so I went and hid in the bogs Grin

x2boys · 21/12/2020 11:26

My physics teacher was called Mr Newton
There was an incontinence specialist when I was a nurse whose surname was Crapley
I can't remember how it was spelt but I once answered a call from a Dr Limpprick .

SallyOMalley · 21/12/2020 11:32

I've known a Crump, a Plump and a Blot. And a Longbone, a Klapproth and a Gotobed. Marvellous names!

Mummatron3000 · 21/12/2020 12:00

More than one Gaylord then.
To be fair, being lord of the gays sounds pretty awesome.

ShanKayak · 21/12/2020 12:14

When did was 4 she thought her teachers were Miss Jelly and Miss Bickie. They were Shelley and Vikki. But Mister Bus was real. 😀

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/12/2020 14:37

I have a couple of ancestors called Badcock, which was changed to Baddock in more recent years.

Still sounds a bit close to Buttock to me, especially in a NI accent! That reminds me of the old advert for Patak's spices, where it just sounds like the little lad doing the voiceover keeps saying Buttocks!

I heard of a Mr Prick, who would always clearly spell his name out on the phone but insist that it was pronounced Prike.

Christmascrybaby · 21/12/2020 16:04

I had a customer called Hogsflesh but she pronounced it Hoe-flay.

LadySlipper · 21/12/2020 16:12

Dr I Feltham - GP

Lunariagal · 21/12/2020 16:45

My godparents name was Bottom. When their son got married he changed his name.

Used to work with a Warren Organ.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/12/2020 16:51

A sibling had a teacher or lecturer - can’t remember which - called Mr U’ren, poor bugger.

KittyWithStripes · 21/12/2020 16:53

There really is an Olympic athlete rejoicing in the name of Fanny Chmelar Grin

I once knew a Tina Topliss which I thought was unfortunate.

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/12/2020 17:10

@cremuel - Randy Bumgardner used to work at State Department. He was a contact of mine when I worked for a large international organisation many years ago. Think he moved to the White House from there.

ProfMcGonigle · 21/12/2020 17:32

Years ago I worked for a famous British Airline. One of our gold frequent fryers - a German man I think - was a Mr Pantelikke (panty-licker to us).

Backtoblack1 · 21/12/2020 17:33

@SoupDragon - I’ve actually said how I love the quirkiness/Britishness of these names. God.

What’s your surname? Grinch by any chance? This is a light hearted thread ffs

This is a light hearted thread ffs

No it isn't. It's a bunch of supposed grown ups taking the piss out of people's names.

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 17:39

@Backtoblack1

Literally peeing at some of these now!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah... SO lighthearted and "loving the quirkiness".
SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 17:41

Having a daft name is fucking miserable for all the reasons shown by the posters on this thread.

Nowaynothappening · 21/12/2020 17:47

Dr Grim always makes me chuckle whenever I see it flash up on the screen at the GP’s.
