Used to work in customer services. Three surnames have never left my brain:
Mrs Wildgoose
Mr Gotobed
Mr and Mrs D’eath.

Please share the weird and wonderful surnames you own or have heard. Apologies if your surname is one I’ve listed.

I was at school with a Robin Crook, and hired a car from a woman called Paige Turner once. I don't know her but there's a journalist for Cosmopolitan called Paisley Gilmour, I really hope she gets together and double barrels with a Mr or Ms Street one day.

There’s a woman at school called Diana Ying and her personalised number plate is Dy Ying. She could have picked any name too!
I also have a close friend whose maiden name was Dong. I bet she’s pleased she could change that now she doesn’t live in China Grin

I don't know if it's funnier that he was called Dr Dick or that it sounded like Donald Duck.

When I was small in the early 1970s the Senior Librarian at our library was called Miss Titball. She insisted it was pronounced Tibble. She was pretty scary so nobody dared call her anything else, parents included!

When I first went to the local family planning clinic, the Dr in charge was called Dr Balls. She was lovely.

A colleague of mine back in the early 1990s was called Peter Rabbits. I have no idea what his parents were thinking of. He was in his late 50s when I knew him and he must have had a lifetime of teasing and potential bullying in his school years. Why would you do that to your child?

MartiniDry · 21/12/2020 00:22

I once knew of a Cornelius McGillicuddy, which I thought rather splendid.
I've also known a John Thomas and a Richard Cox.

Athenajm80 · 21/12/2020 00:31

Our mayor in Cardiff has the surname De'Ath. I don't know much about him but I like him cause of his surname.

My ex was a mechanic and worked with a guy whose surname was Wheel. Also the mechanic down the road when I bought my house had the surname of Torque. Nominative determinism in play I think
