Successfully liberated elder son so all my family are now under one roof.😀 I live on the Surrey/Berkshire/Hampshire borders and tbh the roads were as busy as any normal day, think there might have been a few family liberators out and about. As we live about half a mile from Hampshire DH and I are planning on a covert mission to have lunch in Wetherspoons, not somewhere we normally go but we know they aren’t too fussy about where you live. I know it’s naughty but we’ve both had COVID and we will be sitting miles from anyone particularly as we’re antisocial old gits.
On another note, has anyone noticed people who say they’ve had it twice, they all say they had it first before testing and haven’t had an antibody test in between so no proof they had it the first time.

MargosKaftan · 22/12/2020 20:24

@MercyBooth - call to speak to your GP tomorrow. Best to be on the safe side.

MargosKaftan · 22/12/2020 20:28

@RecycledBlonde - no judging here! Agree, the had it twice people are those who aren't confirmed the first time round. Given that many dcs round here had a bug that seemed to mimic covid (high temp and nasty cough), but tests came back negative, there's clearly another virus that's done the rounds that if you didn't have a test, you might be certain was covid.

MercyBooth · 22/12/2020 20:40

Someone just shared a passive aggressive post into my fb feed about selfish people breaking rules and using support bubbles as excuses. i had a bit of a rant about unpaid carers and what they save the NHS. I went to comment again and i cant Shes removed her post.

Recycledblonde · 22/12/2020 20:45

I’ve shared the single people are forgotten article, aimed at people on my feed who keep sharing pictures of the stations and saying how selfish they are. It’s been re shared by several people, drip drip of common sense. Hopefully it will make people think.

@wanderings

Where is that waterfall? I love waterfalls too.

Some of the threads on the dark side read like pure trolling, to get those with immaculate haloes frothing. On of the many "DH hobby" threads has taken a new turn: DH's hobby is killing me!

One of my DH's hobbies is making ice cream. So it probably is killing me, but what a way to go.
ISaySteadyOn · 22/12/2020 20:55

Death due to a surfeit of ice cream made by a loving hand definitely preferable to death due to a surfeit of lampreys! Wink.

MercyBooth · 22/12/2020 21:02

@Recycledblonde The inability of people to think critically has been one of the most frightening things of this pandemic. And the absolute vitriol.

AcornAutumn · 22/12/2020 21:30

Agree.

Recycledblonde · 22/12/2020 21:45

I think the sheer nastiness has shocked me. Last year it was all about supporting mental health and being kind now it’s throwing anyone who doesn’t agree with you to the wolves. Can’t wear a mask, stay at home and never go out, feel really down and lonely, pull yourself together as other people are dying. It makes me so angry, they are the selfish ones. 😡😡
I caught COVID back in May because I would not let a woman in a care home die alone, none of the staff would stay with her (and they had full PPE)as she was COVID positive, not dying of it but with it. I think a lot of the posters on the C board would think they were right to leave her alone and I would get disciplined at work if I told them what I did. Complete loss of compassion and basic humanity. I would do the same again.

AcornAutumn · 22/12/2020 21:49

Recycled good for you, that will have meant so much to her.

Evenstar · 22/12/2020 22:02

The D’s are flocking to praise COSTCO for banning mask exempt unless they wear visors. Saw this earlier on Facebook and a disabled person I know was in favour of it too. It seems some disabilities are more deserving of compassion than others 🤔 I won’t be going again unless they alter their policy.

amicissimma · 22/12/2020 22:04

@Recycledblonde, thank goodness there are people like you.

But I just ventured onto 'that board' and a post there did make me pause. Someone suggested that what we would call the extreme D's (there's an alarming example there) could be struggling with their mental health and trying to find a way to deal with it, just as much as the 'rule breakers'.

I wonder if some people will look back and bitterly regret who they became during the stress of all this. That could be very painful.

JamSarnie · 22/12/2020 22:11

I think a lot of the vitriol comes from people who simply don't have a large group of people in RL that would keep it in check. I simply can't imagine voicing anywhere near that level of anger and hatred in RL because someone would hand me my arse on a plate just like I would if they were voicing extreme opinions. Either that or they just like to be a keyboard warrior which makes them feel important in an otherwise unimportant life.

Recycledblonde · 22/12/2020 22:13

I think everyone has their story and deserves understanding and compassion but, equally, as a colleague once said, just because you suffer from mental health issues doesn’t stop you from being an arse.
Bad behaviour should not be ignored if it risks hurting other people.
I do try and share facts and different scientific opinions about the pandemic rather than resorting to personal attacks, it’s why I was so relieved to find these threads, acceptance of different opinions all underpinned by genuine kindness and humour. Apart from obviously towards Boris Johnson Carrot 100 in Welsh.😂😂😂

Sonicthehedgehogg · 22/12/2020 22:17

Catching up after another long day in the Covid-pit. Popped into Tesco on my way home. Bugger me, I know where I'd rather be working!
DH used to work for them and after ten years of busting his balls and wrecking his mental health, he left. We are much poorer but it's so nice to have the man I fell in love with back.

Iheartmysmart · 22/12/2020 22:40

I forgot to do the Alexa Boris Johnson Carrots 100 the other evening. Am now laying in bed laughing and the dog has stomped off in a huff because I disturbed him.

Had an illegal indoor visit with my parents this afternoon, socially distanced and with sanitiser, as I didn’t think standing outside in the drizzle with an 82 year old with COPD would be a good idea. Mum made me laugh, she lost most of her sense of taste and smell after a nasty bout of tinnitus a few years ago. and also has a dry cough due to her heart meds. She’s lost count of the amount of times she’s been told by her GP to take a Covid test because of these “symptoms” and finally flipped today, telling him to read her fucking notes and stop being such a prick! She’s 78 and usually very mild mannered.

I am so looking forward to Friday, to go in the the warm to see my DP’s.
We have bought and eaten about 5 tins of quality street. To full a personalised quality street tin for my DM of her favourites. Obviously we didn’t have to eat the ones she doesn’t like, but would be shame not tooXmas Blush She gave us a list of 5 favours.
The weather has cheered me up today, shame it’s going to rain again tomorrow.

MissEWeatherwax · 22/12/2020 22:49

We bought a personalised quality street tin last year from John Lewis and we had ordered to re fill.

MercyBooth · 22/12/2020 23:18
