A field nearby has lots of cauliflowers on them ready to be harvested

The other day, we spotted lots of sheep on the field

Thought that the caulis were ruined due to the weather, or the sheep had escaped.

However, we managed to speak to the farmer and no!

The sheep eat the greens around the cauliflower, but leave the actual flower alone.

What was once a green field, now actually has lots of white where the exposed cauliflower are.

I was amazed really

Interesting. I often saw cows in fields eating oranges cut in half in the south of Spain on the Portuguese border. They left the peel. I wondered if that's why there were varieties of orange coloured cheese there. Does anyone know if it affects the flavour or colour of milk?
I doubt it. Cows eat grass and milk isn’t green.
SoupDragon · 19/12/2020 09:59

I doubt it.
Cows eat grass and milk isn’t green.

There is a scene in Tess of the Durbervilles where they have to search for and remove wild garlic because the cows have eaten it and it has tainted the milk so changes to the flavour are possible.

SoupDragon · 19/12/2020 10:00

(It's not why there is orange cheese though)

CisMyArse · 19/12/2020 10:01

Love this!

Gncq · 19/12/2020 10:12

why would you need to sit a sheep up? Bit late but I completely said that as shit a seat up in my head...

Gncq · 19/12/2020 10:15

@Soubriquet

Wait...Shaun the sheep is an actual documentary?!!

I thought you were all taking the piss and telling me to go and watch the cartoon for all my sheep facts Blush

No, it is a piss take don't worry
justilou1 · 19/12/2020 10:53

So the cauliflowers aren’t why sheep smell like egg farts? Deeeeeeep distrust of lanolin anything from growing up in Australia in the 1970’s - Liz Arden can keep her 8hr cream! *shudder! (Takes self to corner to rock when reminded of Emu Oil - bleurgh!)

LunchBoxPolice · 19/12/2020 10:57

Some sheep are gay.

Soubriquet · 19/12/2020 11:01

@LunchBoxPolice

Some sheep are gay.
Tbh, I think there are gay animals everywhere. We just don’t notice it

There are sheep bordering our garden. For 11 months a year they stay sedately in their fields. But in late September they commando crawl under the wire fence to sneak into our garden to eat wind fall apples.

They know that we know that they can get out at any time, but we have an understanding that they’ll only do it in September.

giantangryrooster · 19/12/2020 11:17

@sashh

Dd had lessons in how to sit a sheep up against you, it was mayhem.

Has no one else read this message?

Why? How? and why again?

Was this in school? A birthday party?

Showing my age by referring to start twenties as girls Blush, sorry.

Surprisingly many vet students including dd are not very big, but they are tough as shit Grin.

As pp wrote you need them to sit against you to treat and examine them. The things they are trained to do is mind blowing to me. Fisting cows is dd preferred convoy starter Grin.

giantangryrooster · 19/12/2020 11:19

Convo Hmm

derxa · 19/12/2020 12:13

@LunchBoxPolice

Some sheep are gay.
Not really. Male sheep will jump on males if there are no females there.
sashh · 19/12/2020 12:27

Tbh, I think there are gay animals everywhere. We just don’t notice it

There's a pair of male penguins in a zoo in Germany who tried to

1: raise a stone instead of an egg
2: steal an egg to raise their own mini me

They were eventually given an egg that was abandoned

There are a female pair in Spain who hatched an 'adopted' egg

Sheep Cat

I believe that that cat is a Devon Rex, I used to have one. They are fairly bald when they are young and then grow fuzzy over time.
He was quite the conversation starter Grin I miss my little fuzzy gremlin ❤️

Soubriquet · 19/12/2020 12:33

The Devon Rex would probably be perfect for this family as dh and dd have a cat allergy

But I doubt dh would ever let me get one...he only likes long haired cats (which we have and just cope with).

I really want a Sphinx but he won’t let me Sad

I read a few years ago that a high proportion of animals exhibit homosexual behaviour. So perhaps it is natural after all, despite the protestations of many.

Swans have the highest number of 'gay men' of all the animals studied. There's LOADS of gay swans. Apparently.

RudolphReindeersFrostyBaubles · 19/12/2020 13:18

I did a Cornish Rex search to find the sheep cat pic.

But here’s one from the Devon Rex search! Squeeee!

This is probably closest I found to the colouring of mine 🖤 I can't tell you his name cos it was dead niche and I don't want to out myself Grin
He was a beauty.

@Saz12

I had my arm broken by a sheep once. I wasn’t a child, nor do I have osteoporosis or any other bone issues. It hurt.
DD1 got beaten up by a bunch of lambs at a petting zoo once. I would have rescued her, but DD2 (2 years old at the time) was in the process of having the hairbands in her pigtails removed by a considerably more threatening looking Rhea at the time.

The little gits saw her with her packet of sheep food and knocked her over to get it all at once.

Then DD1 went on a school Outward Bound type trip a few years later and broke her elbow by slipping on sheep shit.

She reckoned that every Sunday lunch she ate as a teenager was two fingers up to the sheepy bastards.

RudolphReindeersFrostyBaubles · 19/12/2020 15:20

Oh I love it! Interspecies friendship. The cat looks massive.
