I learned something fascinating

A field nearby has lots of cauliflowers on them ready to be harvested

The other day, we spotted lots of sheep on the field

Thought that the caulis were ruined due to the weather, or the sheep had escaped.

However, we managed to speak to the farmer and no!

The sheep eat the greens around the cauliflower, but leave the actual flower alone.

What was once a green field, now actually has lots of white where the exposed cauliflower are.

I was amazed really

@derxa

Oh. Quoting didn't work. That was in answer to "why would you need to sit a sheep up?". Well recently I had a sheep with a broken leg and I had to hold on to him sat on his bottom while the vet plastered his leg.
And what were the rest of them doing whilst you were distracted? This is what bothers me. They'll be another step towards world domination, now, and all because you took your daft bloody eye off the ball...

Sheep are tricky buggers. They also have their own wee personalities.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 18/12/2020 15:37

Actually sheep are sort of related to me and DH.

We hadn't been going out long and we were driving past a field of sheep; at the exact same moment we turned to each other and said 'Do you think sheep get really heavy when it rains?' and that's when I knew we were two sheep-mad idiots who should stick together so as not to inflict ourselves on others.

Eckhart · 18/12/2020 16:18

@DontWalkPastTheCastle

I would suggest that the sheep made some kind of deliberate psychological action to make you both say that at once, and to make you bond over it.

They really are creepy, devious little monsters. The naivety on this thread is disturbing, they've got you all wrapped around their little... hooves? Trotters? Oh god I don't even know what they have for feet...!

There are pigs that look like sheep - Mangalitsas, they're called. They make the best bacon of any breed of pig.

The guy who grows our christmas trees uses sheep to cut the grass between the trees on his farm.

AdaColeman · 18/12/2020 16:36

Have a look on YT at "Extreme sheep herding with LED lights" for some great films of sheep!

Funatish · 18/12/2020 16:38

My (farmer) DH has sheep in his fields to tidy up the grass and edges. Very efficient nibblers apparently.

We have a very aged, rotund labrador with arthritis. He can still cross cattle grids with all the grace of a ballet dancer, he kinds of dances across the side verge

Christ they've done a fluffy and dastardly number on me. The next time I walk past their field I'll try not to look them directly in the eye. It must be hypnotism.

I thought we were going to find out that cauliflowers grow into sheep then.

Buzzthedragon · 18/12/2020 16:58

Wow that’s amazing

user1471565182 · 18/12/2020 16:58

Have you seen those ducks they have in china which look after the rice?

Smallsteps88 · 18/12/2020 17:01

@Eckhart

I read a news article once where sheep were getting into the gardens in a village, despite cattle grids. Locals set up cameras to see how they were getting in during the night. They had 2 methods: 1) roll 2) One sheep lies down on the cattle grid, and everybody else runs over the top of it.

They are NOT stupid. NEVER trust a sheep.

Shock

That is fucking terrifying!!

@JaneJeffer

I recommend a great documentary series called Shaun the Sheep. It teaches you everything you need to know about sheep.

No, but their kids are, because they would never have had kids had they not been under the influence of the sheep, in the first place. Those children exist only by the POWER OF THE SHEEP.

There is a documentary on BBC iPlayer about sheep which everyone should watch. It's called addicted to sheep. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/b070jj99/addicted-to-sheep?partner=com.google&campaign=catalogue&medium=referral
