Love Actually - yes or no?

I fancy watching something festive, and I’m wondering about watching LA. I saw it 10+ years ago, and wasn’t keen, but I have had gin and am feeling quite chilled.

So, LA, yes or no? And if no, can I have some cheesy Christmas film recs, please? (I loved Last Christmas and the three Netflix prince films.)

Thanks.

Yes! But prefer the Holiday!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 10/12/2020 21:21

Yes, love it and so much that my daughter is called ...

AlwaysLatte · 10/12/2020 21:22

Love Actually is a great film! Really heartwarming and Christmassy ♥️

maddy68 · 10/12/2020 21:25

The best film ever. Makes me appreciate how love is actually everywhere , friends, family colleagues. A few cheesy bits to it but forgivable

AliceMadHatter · 10/12/2020 21:30

I love it apart from the Juliett/Keira & Mark/Andrew scene with words written on a board with CD player, it is so stupid. The rest I love.

PuffinParty · 10/12/2020 21:38

It’s not Christmas without tearing apart everything that’s wrong with Love Actually. It’s a terrible film but my favourite Christmas tradition has become shouting “NO SHE DOES NOT HAVE A PRETTY SIZEABLE ARSE” at the telly.

BlueCheckedTeatowel · 10/12/2020 21:41

Yes! watch it! im still angry at alan rickman though Sad

dayswithaY · 10/12/2020 21:56

Awful sexist cringeworthy film. Martine's wooden performance sets my teeth on edge. Far better film are:

The Family Stone
The Family Man
Christmas with the Kranks

BlackCatShadow · 10/12/2020 22:03

I used to watch Love Actually every Christmas but then I saw how horrible it really was. All the comments about how fat Natalie is. The boring scenes with Martin Freeman. It's just aged so badly. I can't watch it anymore.

NotNowPlzz · 10/12/2020 22:06

I hate LA and the Holiday.

I love Last Holiday, because I'm obsessed with Queen Latifah. It is warm, cosy, silly and romantic. In fact I'm going to watch it tonight.

MrsHugsxx · 10/12/2020 22:09

Love it. I haven't watched in a while though as I've seen it too many times.

9632v · 10/12/2020 22:14

A Christmas Story. Funny.

Kippure · 10/12/2020 22:15

Love Actually is so bad it makes Elf look like Citizen Kane.

DS has a thing for the first Christmas Chronicles film, which has Kurt Russell as Santa — the second one is terrible, mostly because Goldie Hawn as Mrs Claus can’t move her face.

Otherwise, the traditional ones — Its a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, Muppet Christmas Carol, Trading Places, Meet Me in St Louis.

mammmamia · 10/12/2020 22:18

That Jezebel article is HILARIOUS

CoronaIsWatching · 10/12/2020 22:22

The irony of pp hating on Love Actually but admitting they love The Holiday - a movie about two pathetic women getting saved by Jude Law and Jack Black

itsovernowthen · 10/12/2020 22:34

I love Love, Actually, my favourite Christmas film. It's really not that deep.

Favourites are Bill Nighy and Rowan Atkinson, the Selfridges scene makes me howl time (despite who the gift is being bought for).

rc22 · 10/12/2020 22:34

I didn't like it but when it was released, my first long term relationship had ended quite nastily so I think I was feeling very cynical about love!! It might be time to give it another chance.

SellFridges · 10/12/2020 22:42

It’s my favourite. I have a t-shirt.

Pipandmum · 10/12/2020 22:47

I love Love Actually. Also Elf. And still love those American animated TV shows from the 50s and 60s (Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is coming to Town, Charlie Brown Christmas...). Home Alone, Scrooged, Christmas Chronicles...

IdblowJonSnow · 10/12/2020 22:53

I like it too although it is quite old now and hasn't dated very well. But was of it's time.

Does Emma's character forgive her husband then? I'd forgotten that bit if so.

I can't bear the Holiday!

lazylinguist · 10/12/2020 22:54

Never watched it, but know enough about it to know I have no desire to.

DramaAlpaca · 10/12/2020 22:54

Yes. And I refuse to be embarrassed about it Grin

Scbchl · 10/12/2020 22:55

I have tried to watch it three times over the years and turned off within 15 mins. Its far too over the top cheesy for me. No.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 10/12/2020 22:56

Bloody Awful

CharlotteSometimes2020 · 10/12/2020 22:59

@EternalOptimist7

Love Actually is fab! We watch it every year & it’s so heartwarming. Don’t understand why people diss it!
I absolutely love this film. I watched it again today. It has funny scenes and also sad ones which is why I like it so much. I love all the different storylines and how they all come together.
