Help with stupidly hard quiz

ApocalypseNowt · 01/12/2020 11:29

Each year my work does a stupidly hard quiz. There are many stages and we get a month to try and do it.

Anyone help me with this stage? there are 21 pictures of celebrities and I've managed to work out who they all are but now I'm stuck on working out the password to the next stage. Each picture has a coloured Roman numeral in it so I assume I have to use those to work out the answer...

something to do with x files

SoupDragon · 04/12/2020 13:55

The group took its name from "Foo fighter", a nickname coined by Allied aircraft pilots for UFOs and other aerial phenomena

He is right!

CrochetyCrochet · 04/12/2020 13:55

I've been enjoying this thread hugely, thank you everyone! Another Only Connect fan but nothing to contribute until now.

However, I'm pretty sure UFOs is Foo Fighters.

CrochetyCrochet · 04/12/2020 13:56

Aargh, cross post.

rosegoldwatcher · 04/12/2020 13:59

If it helps - I've done a counting (hopefully accurate) - we are looking for answers with these number of letters:

7 letters x 1
8 letters x 5
9 letters x 4
10 letters x 4
11 letters x 5
14 letters x 2
17 letters x 1.

So we know where nirvana and there might be giants go.

'Beastie' is an acronym, standing for "Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Inner Excellence"
Beastie Boys.

TimTamsAreForEating · 04/12/2020 14:02

Wikipedia says Wang Chung (really random band from the 80s) means yellow bell in Chinese.

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 04/12/2020 14:03

PurpleDaisies · 04/12/2020 14:08

@CrochetyCrochet

Spoonerism for Richard's pen is Biffy Clyro.
YES! This has been annoying me for ages. I could only think of Richard as Dick and kept coming up with nonsense.
SquirtleSquad · 04/12/2020 14:09

This is fucking brilliant

TimTamsAreForEating · 04/12/2020 14:11

The Doors is instruments of perception. They were named after the Aldous Huxley book The Doors of Perception - which is a reference to William Blake.

rosegoldwatcher · 04/12/2020 14:12

3 can't be Eureka as there are no 6 letter words.

(NB - in my post I missed out 4 letters x 2.)

rosegoldwatcher · 04/12/2020 14:13

@TimTamsAreForEating - you genius!

TimTamsAreForEating · 04/12/2020 14:14

Anyone else want to find out what company this is? I want to work there just so I can do this quiz next year!

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 04/12/2020 14:19

Google tells me there is a band called "Bootcamp" for the pedagogical exercise one, but it's a bit of a stretch....

It's better than my thought of Lynard Skynard (sp) named after a PE teacher. BlushGrin
TimTamsAreForEating · 04/12/2020 14:22

I think the exercise one is Eurythmics. It's listed in their Wikipedia entry.

pussycatinboots · 04/12/2020 14:23

That sounds more like it.

rosegoldwatcher · 04/12/2020 14:25

I was just about to post that the missing three answers had to be 9, 10 and 14 letters.

Eurythmics is the 10 letter one
