Am I wrong to keep this secret?

DH on a long shift today, not home until about 8. Being the dutiful working from home wife I am, dinner has been in the slow cooker all day so he has a hot meal ready when he gets home.

After smelling it all day and feeling under the weather, I don't want it and I've ordered myself Chinese to perk myself up.

Would I be totally unreasonable to scoff the lot (washed down with a bucket of wine), hide the evidence, and then proclaim how delicious the Spanish chicken stew was?

(Lighthearted, obvs).

Bloody hell, it's a bit of a laugh. DH doesn't even like Chinese, I'm laughing at my own greed and the fact that I've made something nice and healthy and wanked a load of money on crap.

I've just drunk his bottle of water while he was in the other room, maybe he should get the divorce forms filled in?

This reminds me when I was pregnant with 3rd child. Husband is vegan and very against eating meat. I wasnt but mostly ate vegan at home and never bought meat as it upset him. However when pregnant I craved meat so bad. I resisted for so long. Brought it up to DH but he was so against it and got angry at the thought of it.
One day I was in asda and the cooked chicken smelled so good! I bough half a cooked chicken thinking I could scoff it and hide evidence. However on my way out of asda he phoned asking if I was still in asda as he was close and could stop and see me for 5 minutes. I ended up shoving the chicken underneath bags etc. Wheb he stuck his head in he said the car smelt funny. I laughed it off. Then drove to a remote beach where I ate it all and hid binned the packaging in the bin there so he wouldnt ser it at home. Lol desperate times. Eas absolutely delicious and felt so much better after.
Hope you enjoyed your takeaway.

Just out of interest. Why do people drink at the end of a working day? I've never seen the fascination and happily have a coffee. Lol

Wait, wait! I know the answer to this one... I'm good at this shit.

"Evening, DH. Hard day? You poor thing. Don't worry, I've got a Chinese for us dinner. Only half of it arrived so I've bunged some rice on. And you're going to be SO pleased with me... I decided to do a bulk cook up and I've done a Spanish chicken stew for the freezer today, too. I've been SO bloody productive. Now, pass the wine and then you sit down and take the weight off. By the way, we need more red. I put a bottle of Montepulciano in that stew. Should be delicvious."

I think that covers everything.

HebeMumsnet · 23/11/2020 20:47

Oh knickers. Just RTFT and I'm too late. Ah well. All sorted for next time.

mummytippy · 23/11/2020 21:03

Many years ago I would have been like you... and stewed over the stew! Not now!

If you fancy a Chinese takeaway so much instead of the stew you made go for it... it isn't a crime to change your mind and eat something else.

You made the stew, not him... and is he suggesting a takeaway?.. erm no... lots of other nights you can enjoy a takeaway together!

I hope you enjoyed your takeaway.

Porgy657 · 23/11/2020 21:14

He may well of got himself a cheeky second tea on the way home!

There is a perfectly placed drive through on my way home from work after a busy day sometimes the appeal is too much...all evidence is put straight in the outside bin DP is none the wiser and I then don’t eat half the dinner while I’m cooking it!

Lollypop701 · 23/11/2020 21:22

Can I just say spray the polish on the radiators... much better results. Oh, and hope you had prawn crackers with your wine for ‘afters’

JorisBonson · 23/11/2020 22:01

@Porgy657 the man is a bottomless pit (and in great shape, bastard) so it would surprise me 😂

While I'm laughing at the op's Chinese, this isn't funny. Your husband sounds incredibly controlling with your food.
MummyofT · 24/11/2020 17:57

This is the best thread that I've read in AGES!!!! x

threatmatrix · 24/11/2020 18:04

Absolutely the right thing to do, enjoy and don’t feel even the slightest bit guilty.

optimisticpessimist01 · 24/11/2020 18:12

Ignore people saying "why do you have to hide it", I would too! I've done this before a couple of times in the past too. I'm very jealous OP!

Twinkie01 · 24/11/2020 18:16

I hate eating stuff that's been cooking all day 🤢 so YADNBU.

iklboogeymum · 24/11/2020 18:19

@threatmatrix - she already has last night. Unless you're encouraging a repeat Grin

cherish123 · 24/11/2020 18:20

I'd rather have the Spanish chicken stew! Sounds delicious.

What he does not know won't hurt him.

threatmatrix · 24/11/2020 18:22

Suds good to me 😂😂

threatmatrix · 24/11/2020 18:22

JorisBonson · 24/11/2020 18:55

We cooked and ate together tonight for all those worrying about my marriage 😂

Celestine70 · 24/11/2020 19:13

I would have ordered him Chinese and had the slow cooker meal the next day.

Jayne35 · 24/11/2020 19:37

I’m surprised at all the shocked comments, I sometimes order a takeaway and get rid of the evidence 😂 to be honest I’m sure DH knows and isn’t bothered (as I wouldn’t be if I worked a late shift and he had a takeaway).
