What do we think about this? It does all seem remarkably interesting timing....

@ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN

Many can’t maintain 2m distance at all time’s

We switch the app off

Staff that have forgot are self isolating

Forgot to switch the app off or forgot to maintain 2m?

You don’t need to isolate if you were within 2m but not more than 15 minutes

You also don’t need to isolate if the app tells you you should but you were 2m+ apart per risk assessment but your phone was closer.

What do you mean at all times? I’m surprised work places are expecting employees to switch the app off. This sounds to me to be another means of increasing the spread.

Nothing publishable to say on the Bozo front. Snake.

Skipsurvey · 16/11/2020 05:34

why didnt he wear ppe?
quite bizarre

NiceViper · 16/11/2020 06:35

It was supposed to be a pretty big week for Boris Johnson - he is trying to reset his government after some factional fighting in his office over the last few days

Utterly terrible timing for him

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/11/2020 06:36

He says he was “pinged” by the app so couldn’t have been maintaining 2m distance. Even in that photo,of the pair of them which he says look, we were social display....they’re not 2m apart. 1 meter yes, but not 2.

So if he thinks that’s a good enough distance I suspect that’s the distance they were for the whole meeting.

I think, in fact, it’s perfect timing. Most convenient.

There’s the trade bill problem; the Biden problem; the Brexit problem; as well as the Covid problem and the No 10 issues.

Much better to be in a metaphorical fridge.

Lemonylemony · 16/11/2020 07:04

So the PM can’t count to 2? Good grief!

So are you saying , which you are , that every single person who has tested positive for covid recently has only got it because they broke the rules?
So if you have it , it’s all your own fault ?
No, you’ve got the wrong end of the stick. And BJ hasn’t tested positive (again) anyway. Following the rules isn’t 100% protection against catching the disease. But following the rules means you minimise your risk so significantly that if you are following the rules, you are not classed as a close contact for track & trace purposes. So the only people you should be a close contact to, are those in your household/bubble/legitimate exceptions. We’re questioning what legitimate exception was possibly required for a workplace discussion.

And you have never been closer than 2 m to anyone ?
Not apart from legitimate exceptions at work that literally require 2 people to do a physical task together....and then we have a raft of rules keeping the time to a minimum, wearing fluid repellent masks and face visors and aprons and gloves etc. It’s drastically affected how we work, putting a massive amount of mental strain on staff and economic strain on the business due to reduced capacity. No one in my work place would be identified as a close contact from a meeting, as what used to be face to face meetings in small offices are now via zoom. BJ/No 10 are clearly breaching their own guidelines. I wonder if the No 10 Covid-secure workplace risk assessment has been published as to be available to the public?

And don’t you think there may be security reasons why zoom meetings are not used?
If the government can’t find a secure way to have remote meetings, then we are in even more trouble than we thought!

NiceViper · 16/11/2020 07:06

I've seen a few posts here saying that, but it strikes me as very wrong, there has just been a purge of Downing Street, and he really, really needs to show that he is in the driving seat. This is preventing it, and opening the door to accusations of set-up (and/or SD incompetence) just at the time he needed to show the new set up.

Press running it that way because they'd been hearing the intention through sources all weekend.

No way it's a set up, as the MP has (demonstrably) got it and he's hardly going to risk his wife's life

chomalungma · 16/11/2020 07:11

This shows one of the issues with the 'Trace' element.

Either the MP named his as a close contact or the app thought he was.

Boris Johnson has said he followed guidelines and socially distanced.

Which would not make him a close contact.

And you can't appeal the 'Trace' bit.

chomalungma · 16/11/2020 07:15

And don’t you think there may be security reasons why zoom meetings are not used

I would really hope that Downing Street had an alternative to Zoom for video conferencing.

I wonder if they have a situation room just like in the West Wing. Or is it just a boring meeting room with a screen?

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/11/2020 07:23

So either he didn’t maintain distance or his world beating test and trace system is shit. Or quite possibly both.

I thought (may well be wrong) that you could appeal the trace bit......so if he’d left his phone next to the other person’s phone but they were actually 2m apart?

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2020 07:36

Yes the app can be overridden.

frumpety · 16/11/2020 07:38

Anything of interest coming up in Parliament over the next week ?

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 16/11/2020 07:44

Mummyoflittledragon

In some NHS settings staff are advised to switch the app off

If they didn’t you would have far more staff off

It’s just not possible in some setting to maintain 2m distance all the time and not all wear full PPE

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 16/11/2020 07:53

@Unsure33

No i’m questioning why, during the Government enforced lockdown, a face to face meeting was necessary? I’m also saying No 10 has had the capacity to make secure conference calls for some time! (If you think about it MI5/6 can help out.) The windows in their meeting rooms are closed, no sign of them sitting in their coats through meetings due to cold unlike my DC at school.

What a load of hypocrites you all are.
I’ve spent some of my time (at home!)this weekend on threads here trying to convince people that reducing their contacts at Christmas is the right thing to do - to protect people’s health, people’s jobs, the NHS and the economy. I am not the hypocrite!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/11/2020 08:24

How does the app work? If it relies on phones being less than 2 m apart I can see how you can do that. My phone doesn’t live in my pocket at work, it’s in my bag which is next to other people’s bags.

I’m sorry if this is a really dim question, but we ourselves aren’t chipped so it’s the phone that has to be closer than 2m from another phone..

Chewbecca · 16/11/2020 08:31

thatwasthat

Obviously to do some jobs it's not possible to keep 2m distance at all times, but I don't think being Prime Minster is one of those jobs

This

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 16/11/2020 08:40

Well that’s another issues it’s not that people are not socially distancing it’s that their phones are not

Bags together s, putting phone’s in lockers

HR departments should be making staff aware of this

That’s what I’m thinking. I haven’t downloaded the app, but I do put my bag 15cm next to someone else’s bag at work. I have my phone in the bag, assuming others are the same. The phones aren’t socially distancing.

Presumably this is a real thing and some people MST be contacted because if this situation. It could look like you were on someone’s lap for 10 hours a day.

Cedilla · 16/11/2020 10:50

@PullTheBricksDown

Also, I believe No 10 has a sodding rose garden. Why can't they have their face to face meetings out there?
Ah, but to access it, he has to go through the office , don't forget. It's just too traumatic, on top of having to pay for a nanny and scrape by on only £150,000 a year.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/11/2020 11:09

It was supposed to be a pretty big week for Boris Johnson - he is trying to reset his government after some factional fighting in his office ... he has big decisions to make on Brexit and what happens when England's lockdown ends on 2 December

And there's the answer right there; he clearly lacks the ability to do a job he doesn't really need anyway, so here's an opportunity to hide away from the chaos, then resign on "health grounds" if things don't take a turn for the better

I'll be amazed if he's still there beyond the spring - and yes, I'll be the first to say I was wrong if it doesn't happen

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/11/2020 11:10

Duuuhhh, bold fail on the header there Blush ... why can't we have an edit function??

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 16/11/2020 19:31

Alongside Boris there are 10 other MPs isolating! 10! Isn't this exactly the kind of meeting they are telling us to conduct virtually. Not leading by example again.

And for those that questioned whether the great dumpling can Zoom he's been on it today.

Zixxy · 16/11/2020 20:36

I think we really have to accept that this Administration is similar to Trump's

They know the rules are for everyone else. But not them.

Anyway this is all choreographed and they are laughing their cotton socks off at all of us for taking it as reality.

Mad.

Lemonylemony · 16/11/2020 20:56

The great dumpling Halloween Grin

So they had 11 MPs not properly distanced?!? Enough to be close contacts?!? FOR WHY?!? There is no excuse for this surely.
