Tesco Christmas slot

Is anyone else trying to get a Christmas delivery slot?

This is my first year booking a delivery and I think I underestimated the demand - I’ve been in the queue for the best part of an hour Shock

I waited for an hour but then had to go on the school run. Came back around ten and got a click and collect for the 23rd so I’m happy with that.

Laurendelight · 13/11/2020 12:57

I only managed the 20th when I was clearly delusional about getting a Tuesday 😆 never mind. I am able to pop to a shop if something important goes astray.

mindutopia · 13/11/2020 13:24

Yes, I got one. But the annoying thing is that I always need a slot, not for Christmas, but the normal slots. I don't quite understand why people need their Christmas dinner delivered, when they don't seem to need it the rest of the year? Why the demand?

Every single year I just need my normal deliveries in the last two weeks before Christmas because I can't magically just not go to work so I can go do the weekly shop. In normal times, I'm out the door to work at 6am and not home until 7pm and then need to put dc to bed and get ready for work again. No time to go shopping, so I rely on those slots just to get through the last slog before annual leave starts. And every year it's just a massive pain.

I gladly go do my actual Christmas shop in the store though, including this year.

Tesco sounds an absolute mess. Had no trouble getting one with Asda.

@mindutopia don't they do a recurring slot?!

Michaelbaubles · 13/11/2020 14:17

My DD said to me at 7am “did you remember to put my shower gel on the shopping order?” so I opened the app to amend it and obviously landed in the queue - luckily I remembered what it was for so I stayed in! Got a slot for the 22nd on my way to work 50 minutes later...thank god for DD’s shower gel!

Glittertwins · 13/11/2020 15:30

I was in the queue from 6:55am today using MS Edge browser. Kept telling me that I'd be let in. Two and a half hours later, still nothing. Every so often, I'd sign in using Chrome instead. I eventually got in at 9:05am on Chrome, tried to book the slot and it crashed again. Fortunately it didn't kick me out although I lost that Tuesday slot so had to go for the Monday.
At 9:45am, the original queue holder still hadn't let me in. I contacted Tesco via FB as they said they'd had technical issues with the entry page. It was like this last year too, they just don't learn.

Venicelover · 13/11/2020 15:40

I was in the queue for ages too, but could only get the 21st but that is ok for me as I have an Ocado delivery and a click and collect at M&S already in the bag!!

I will have to do it all over again for MIL when the other slots are released!

Glittertwins · 13/11/2020 15:46

I doubt very much you'll get anything close to Christmas if MIL doesn't have a pass. Nothing after the 20th here.

toomuchfaster · 13/11/2020 15:54

Am I missing something here? Why are people booking slots at multiple supermarkets? Surely this is adding to the problem of not enough slots? Seems incredibly selfish to me.

Izzabellasasperella · 13/11/2020 16:15

I started queuing at 7 on the app, got in at 8 booked a slot for the 23rd then it threw me out back to the queue! Got in again at 9ish, I'd lost that slot went to book and it did it again! I had to go out but got on the website later and got a slot for Monday.
Does anyone know if the Christmas deliveries will still be 95 items only?

I shop at both Ocado and Tesco all year round and have delivery passes for both. They don't both stock the same products you know....and as for M&S, I always order from them at Xmas.

Anyone who wants to pay for one can have a delivery pass for any supermarket, or more than one. Get off your high horse.

No, I have told her not to expect that but she is on their priority list as she is 83 and has recently had cancer. We will shop for her if necessary, but it is easier to have it delivered directly to her by the store.
PatchworkElmer · 13/11/2020 16:41

@Izzabellasasperella yes, I think it is 95 items.

TeenPlusTwenties · 13/11/2020 17:07

My 80s/90s shielding DPs got their slot at 7:10 this morning no problem.
I wonder whether people on the 'shielding' lists (with delivery savers of course) got to jump any queues?
(My DM said that even when they went on, all the xmas eve slots were gone and half the day before.)

We only got them to sign up for delivery savers recently. I was reading threads here about xmas slots (we don't do delivery for ourselves) so looked at Tesco, saw what the deal was, and got them to sign up.

Tesco have been fantastic for my DPs this year. A massive weight off our shoulders as we live too far away to do regular shopping for them.

ShirleyPhallus · 13/11/2020 17:10

They’re releasing more slots for the Christmas period next week FYI. Try back then if you didn’t get one!

BrigitsBigKnickers · 13/11/2020 17:11

I tried to sign up for delivery saver a few weeks ago( as I use Tesco delivery every week) but they weren't taking on any new ones at the moment.

Are there actually going to be any non- delivery saver slots left next Friday?

You can book a slot to be delivered to her house.
Venicelover · 13/11/2020 17:52

@VettiyaIruken

Thanks, yes, we do, but she doesn't have a delivery pass (so she wasn't eligible for the advance access today) and I do all the online ordering for her as she doesn't use a PC! She rings her order through and I input it.

DinosApple · 13/11/2020 17:56

It took me an hour and 15 minutes, I had the app open and the website, I got in on the website first.

I meant on your account.
You can order on your account, with your delivery saver so early access, to be delivered to her house.

DinosApple · 13/11/2020 18:01

And similar to above, the website came up with page will not load three times. I just refreshed it though and eventually it worked without throwing me out completely.

flapjackfairy · 13/11/2020 18:03

@TeenPlusTwenties
No no queue jumping. I wish ! We have a pass and are eligible for priority slots and it took me nearly 2 hrs to get a slot .

Venicelover · 13/11/2020 18:21

@VettiyaIruken Thanks, I didn't know that. I suppose it is the same principle as having a delivery made to a holiday let? Just an address change?

VettiyaIruken · 13/11/2020 18:37

Yes, that's right.

TalesTheCat · 13/11/2020 18:41

I think with tesco you are only allowed 1 slot for the Xmas week, so even if you change the address you won't be able to book her a slot through your account
