@Stillfunny - I don't know whereabouts you are but supermarkets in the UK just before Christmas are absolutely crazy busy.
Christmas is a massive deal here, although not so much for the religious aspect. Many people go all out to make it a special day. Parties before, big extended family dinner on the day, lots of presents. Some businesses completely shut down between Christmas and New Year (construction industry, schools, smaller professional businesses like accountants etc) so there is a sense of occasion.
Supermarkets might have their car parks three-quarters full at busy times the rest of the year, but before Christmas you'll probably have to wait for a space, ratcheting up stress levels before you get in.
Once inside the shop is heaving, most people will be trying to buy very similar products (sprouts, carrots, potatoes, extra thick cream, sausages, bacon , turkey or the meat of preference for the household). God forbid you pick up the last of something, everyone around will glare at you! Everyone with a trolley will have forgotten how to steer it, given its unwieldy load. If you have to take DC with you too... 😱. It also takes twice as long to do it as any other time of year!
There's very little of the Christmas spirit to be had in a supermarket in the week before Christmas. Plus the shops are then shut on the big day- shock horror- for a whole 24 hours - so no emergency top ups.
This is why I do it online
