It's so close I can't watch...

@goose124

i'm just shocked that the democrats didn't have a stronger, more credible candidate to field against Trump than Biden. Biden may yet win, but if he does, it will be by a whisker. Trump should've been really easy to beat, by the correct candidate. He's an inarticulate buffoon, with a weak grasp of politics. A decent candidate should've been celebrating a landslide victory against Trump today.
agree it's pretty disastrous for the democrats really. could they really not do better?
Bathroom12345 · 04/11/2020 12:51

Drive - as a mixed race women myself. Why is it good for Biden by stealth to bring in a women President. Put a women of colour into the running and see what happens. Its not up to you or Biden to do something like this.

She isnt an exceptional running mate in my view. If she was why didnt she stand herself.

Andante57 · 04/11/2020 12:54

But do we withdraw the vote from people on that basis?

Quietpersonattheback after the EU referendum someone on the Brexit threads genuinely thought that would be a good idea.

Deadringer · 04/11/2020 12:55

Come on Trump! Pack your bags and get the fuck out!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/11/2020 12:56

@Bathroom12345 I approve of Biden on the sole basis that he's not Trump, which I guess goes for most people.

I hope there is some kind of an understanding between him and Kamala. No woman will ever become President on her own merits - she would need to borrow a penis and (ideally) a wrinkly white skin, and I like to think Biden has kindly agreed to loan his out.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/11/2020 12:58

@Bathroom12345 I do get the sense there are just too many barriers a female BAME candidate would have to overcome.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/11/2020 13:00

Actually, I'll amend this. It could happen some day, but not at the moment.

smoothieooo · 04/11/2020 13:01

If when he loses I won't be able to use the joke I read on twitter yesterday:

A white supremacist, a bankrupt, a misogynist and a liar walk into a bar.

The barman says "what'll it be Mr President?"
Grin

hamstersarse · 04/11/2020 13:06

A white supremacist, a bankrupt, a misogynist and a liar walk into a bar.

This is the thing about Trump - all his horrific behaviours aren't based on any ideology. He isn't racist in the 'traditional' sense, he will just use it if it gives him personally some political / ego gain.

He'll turn on anyone of any sex, race or sexuality if he sees them going against him. His MO is narcissism rather than any actual thought through ideology.

Another reason why attacks from the left don't touch the sides

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 13:07

Creating a one term President is generally seen as a pretty sound result. Questions should be going to the Reps right now, not the Dems.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2020 13:08

It's so utterly horrific

He is so narcissistic and hungry for power that he would put HIMSELF above the needs of the American people

Literally the opposite of what Gore did

Bathroom12345 · 04/11/2020 13:12

But surely voting for an old duffer who can often lose track of what is saying in anticipation of him standing aside shortly in favour of a black women that no one voted for is shocking!

Still, Trump did point this out to people. Vote for Biden and get someone completely different.

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 13:13

I know not to expect better of the Daily Mail, but really, the state of their headlines.
Aim of paper:
to inform = 1%
to make privileged middle class readership feel absolutely furious about imaginary injustices being done to people like them = 99%

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 13:14

Gore shouldn’t have conceded though. Complete robbery.

But they don’t get Trump - which is a win for approx 52% of Americans.

Bathroom12345 · 04/11/2020 13:22

Cam. If the best that can come out of this is that a creepy Biden who is way way past his best put a black women in the White House someone is bneing played. On another thread someone shared the Biden video of him around children. Now maybe its a generational thing, the touching, the feeble jokes about only dating when you are 30 but its horrible.

Looking at Trump. I suspect in his day he had women swarming around him. Look at his wives, ex girlfriends etc. Those women remind me of the young women (I had a friend many years ago who did this) hanging around bars where young footabllers hung out. They are a certain type who are attracted to rich power men and can hold their own. I have no vote in this election but there is something about Biden which makes me very very uncomfortable.

Would I let my 12 year daughter be alone with Biden in a room after seeing the videos. No, I wouldnt. Would I allow it with Trump. Yes, I think I would.

PerkingFaintly · 04/11/2020 13:31

@AlternativePerspective

So, for those saying that Biden has early onset dementia, people have been saying this about trump for at least the last year or have people forgotten that?
I think most of us are just sitting here Grin at the descriptions by certain posters of incompetent, incoherent old duffers who can't handle detail or remember things. Accusations are admissions...

Although, I'm fascinated by this new trope, now given twice on this thread, of being concerned about the "woman whispering in his ear, secretly controlling him".

'Cos I've been quietly wondering for some time about Ivanka's role. Daddy doesn't seem able to operate without her, sends her to sit in summit meetings while he's resting, and there were stories right from the start about her breezing into the Oval Office in the middle of meetings on very flimsy pretexts. It looked a lot like she was checking he was "doing OK".

Of course the power she wields over him has made her and Jared much hated by daddy's other aides.

Dunno what the full story is, and I doubt much of that will come out in the wash.

But that's why I'm intrigued to see this anxiety by Trumpies about "the woman whispering in his ear."

Coffeecak3 · 04/11/2020 13:37

@Bathroom12345. Yes because a man who would like to date his own daughter isn’t creepy at all!

ChelseeDagger · 04/11/2020 13:50

Trump is a known quantity, on that basis I hope he wins.

America in 2020; where the choice is between a bona fide megalomaniac and an old man with probable mild cognitive impairment who can't keep his paedo tendencies to himself...

Parker231 · 04/11/2020 15:33

I think, based on Trumps performance that he is the one with some serious health problems. There is no evidence of this with Biden. It will be a disaster for the US population if Trump eventually wins.

Bathroom12345 · 04/11/2020 15:38

No evidence of this with Biden. Really? You think he is at the top of his game, ready to be President of the US? You have no concerns about his mental capacity, his ability to answer questions? Nothing at all. You see him going full term. I dont!

FoolsAssassin · 04/11/2020 15:44

I have issues with both of them . I’m especially have issues with Trump’s mental capacity who sounds and behaves very much like my Mum did when she had Dementia. I haven’t heard him answer questions coherently either though to be fair I try not to listen.

Did listen to both Biden and Trump earlier and there was a marked contrast in coherency with Biden sounding coherent and Trump making not a lot of sense going on about fraud.

somelemons · 04/11/2020 15:47

@Lifeisabeach09

What a fucking insane place.

Brits can hardly criticise...Bojo, Brexit. Both countries are following the same popular nationalist rhetoric.

On the contrary - there might be some daft voters in the UK but at least they don't vote for psychopaths.
TheChosenTwo · 04/11/2020 15:52

Bring back Obama Sad

Parker231 · 04/11/2020 15:54

In a recent poll forty one per cent said Mr Biden has the soundness of mind to serve, compared to 34 per cent who said he does not. Twenty-five per cent said they did not know.

Mr Trump's figures amongst voters on his mental soundness are even less promising, with more than half, 54 per cent, saying he was not fit. Just 30 per cent said he does have the mental soundness, and 17 per cent said they did not know.
