@Taswama I have a dark chocolate advent calendar, DH bought it for me as a surprise. I think I should use it to count down lockdown and then buy another.

I have washed all the school uniform, been for a run, hoovered and cleaned the inside of 2/3 of the windows. I also went for a socially distanced walk with my sister and the dog. Soup and homemade bread for dinner. Productive but not exciting.
Need to plan somewhere for us to walk as a family tomorrow.

EggyPegg · 07/11/2020 21:34

I have been writing an essay on and off all day. To block out family noise, I've had my earbuds in. I can't listen to music as I find it distracting, but always enjoy having the washing machine on in the background. Today I found washing machine sounds on Amazon music, and created a playlist. It's been very effective and soothing.

EggyPegg · 07/11/2020 21:35

@LadyOfTheFlowers

I went to town to try and pay some cash onto my credit card but I couldn't do it in the post office or my bank so I rushed to another bank and it was closed down even when I googled and it said that branch was open.

Then I walked the dog for 90 mins and he had a swim.

Then I watched 'That Thing You Do'

Had some soup and veg for tea.

Now going to pour a Pepsi Max and online game with DS1 (15) who is at his dad's house.

@LadyOfTheFlowers, I finished The Keeper of Lost Things this week, so was immediately drawn to your name just now. Is it inspired by that?!

May I say eggypegg, a playlist of washing machine sounds is exactly what this thread is all about

I changed the bedding on our bed today. Does anyone else remember at least one person stating that they changed their bedding every day in days of yore whenever the topic came up on mumsnet?

PersisFord · 07/11/2020 22:47

Oh yes, laundry threads! People who wash everything in their house, every day, including the sofa covers and curtains!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/11/2020 22:52

When DS was little we lived in a flat and his bedroom was across from the kitchen, I always had a load in the washing machine ready to start at bedtime because the noise would send him straight off to sleep.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 07/11/2020 22:54

Genuinely don't know where people would get the time, unless they had enormous washing machines and tumble dryers.

I did a load of laundry at 8am and hung it outside at 9am. As it was a mild, dry and bright day I was disappointed to discover most of it was still damp at 6pm. However it is very misty outside now, so I wonder whether it was dry then got misted on and re-damped?

I promised DD we would buy blutak in tesco for a craft thing. She had tried substituting glue but it stuck too firmly. When we made it to tesco we forgot. At bedtime she remembered and was disappointed. When she was asleep* I slipped out and went back to tesco, and bought the blutak. She will be very pleased in the morning. I also bought myself a pink gin.

(*DH was in the house, also sleeping.)

Chicken was nice by the way. And my Yorkshire puddings are always amazing (this is not showing off, it is a universally-acknowledged truth). There weren’t enough parsnips but I don’t think I’ve ever felt that there were ever enough parsnips at any meal, I have an insatiable appetite for them.

Do they eat parsnips where you are @Prokupatuscrakedatus? There’s a lot of root vegetable chat on this thread!

I live about as urban as it’s possible to get @MissConductUS. I know really that I wouldn’t like living in the depths of the country but I wish we lived right on the edge of a town, rather than bang in the middle. We have a little garden though which really makes all the difference for me.

That wouldn't have worked for my two. They both loved the washing machine. I used to prop them up on cushions and let them watch the drum spin.
PersisFord · 07/11/2020 22:56

@OrangeGinLemonFanta exactly the same happened to my laundry! Very disappointing. But it is good for it to be out in the sunshine, the UV light will kill germs and brighten the whites.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/11/2020 23:15

@PersisFord
Parsnip, that's Pastinake. I never had them, but DH granny loved a Schnaps made from Pastinaken. I checked on Chefkoch.de and it seems to be eaten more in the south.
I grew up on Grünkohl, Melde, Mangold, Wirsing, Weißkohl cooked with potatoes - and I can't find translations at the moment. Sorry.

Frownette · 07/11/2020 23:19

I wash my bedding once a week - if this means I'm a slut, I don't want to know.

Duvet and two duvet covers went into a wash today.

IEat · 07/11/2020 23:26

I ate my lunch at 11.30am.

Gingernaut · 08/11/2020 00:04

I need to buy a screw extractor set from Screwfix later.

sproutsandparsnips · 08/11/2020 00:28

We have been for a walk today, much to the annoyance of dc.
I have made blackberry and apple loaf cake with frozen blackberries picked earlier in the season
I am off today which is a good thing as it is Not Going Well in work.
I have worked on my MSc assignments today but I am not enthusiastic about leadership and management.
I will post a photo if the heron we saw and lovely autumnal colours.

I'm waiting to hear Joe Biden address the nation but he's running late, so I'm listening instead to various journalists on NPR make small talk while we wait.

@PersisFord
I went and enhanced my vocabulary:
kale, orache???, chard, savoy, white cabbage

Squirrel26 · 08/11/2020 08:52

I’m about to go and see what my horse has been doing overnight. I have breakfast cupcakes for the poor depleted lockdown yard staff.

ReallySpicyCurry · 08/11/2020 08:59

I'm washing my bedding today but only so I can dry it and put it straight back on because it's my pure white set.

I am doing this in celebration of getting my room back after two years of having the toddler in it.

Conundrum though. I have mismatched bedroom furniture. The chest of drawers is the only bit I bought myself from new, and I was intending to buy the matching wardrobe and bedside tables once toddler was ejected and I could rearrange the room (we moved to this house from a rental just before she was born, so didn't have a lot of furniture) but now the Argos website is telling me it won't deliver the items in question to my area.

Hmmm

Nydj · 08/11/2020 09:00

@PersisFord I love roasted parsnips.
DH ordered some more cluster lights (2000 of them for a 6’ tree on top of the ones I bought last year which weren’t enough). I plan to get rid of the other lights and use the cluster lights for our Christmas tree going forwards.

Spudlet · 08/11/2020 09:14

I’m tired. I woke up for a wee at 5.30am and then my brain was whirling around too much to get back to sleep.

My foot is still sore, so we’re going for a bike ride today instead of me going for a run. I think I might wear my new running top though, as otherwise I don’t know when I’ll get to wear it. Le sigh.

Moirasrose · 08/11/2020 09:26

I’m going to be resentfully cleaning the bathrooms today. I’m the only one out of DH and me who cleans them. And there’s two bathrooms and a loo.

sueelleker · 08/11/2020 09:27

wonder whether it was dry then got misted on and re-damped? Makes a change from being darked on!
