France rumoured to go back into nation lockdown from midnight tomorrow

Just that really. 😢

We live in France and I fear for our business. We live very rurally with only 2 deaths during the whole situation. Local equivalent of BBC news are reporting it is what will be announced by president Macron tomorrow.

The whole country would be signed off if doctors were doing that, @InvincibleInvisibility.

I'm in very rural France and hoping against hope they keep the schools open. It nearly killed me last time, never mind DD who didn't see anyone except us for months.

LaChatte · 28/10/2020 08:09

Maybe I'm clutching at straws here, but I hope the fact that the rumours of total lockdown are being spread about so that the actual measures announced tonight, although strict, seem ok in comparison.

usuallydormant · 28/10/2020 08:57

I'm hoping you're right LaChatte. I think the earlier curfew along with restrictions on private gatherings, although not to the extent of first time round, and travel would be a great help. We need to keep the economy ticking over and kids' education is too important - especially when there is lower spread in schools.

But it's an impossible situation for governments - I follow most closely what's going in Ireland, UK, Switzerland and here and they all have had different approaches, some worse that others, but we are all basically back in the same position.

I'm finding it most hard around not seeing family. Ireland had a two week quarantine during the summer I followed the rules and didn't go. Now there are no flights going from anywhere near and I don't know when I'll be able to see them again. Thankfully they are all in good health at the moment but the stress of knowing that if they aren't there is nothing you can do is terrible.

If you'd copied the title into advanced search it would have taken you there Smile

oops! Wrong thread...

TheSeedsOfADream · 28/10/2020 10:44

Our Italian news is also reporting the same.
I have a feeling we'll be following.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/10/2020 11:00

Ive just taken the DC out for a long walk in case the 1km rule comes back in. All very enjoyable until I walked past 2 blokes saying goodbye and telling each other to make the most of today before we're locked up again tomorrow! Sad

I agree with Pp that most of France would be signed off work with stress atm if they applied usual criteria (and it wasn't so taboo). I read an article about how anti anxiety tablets, antidepressants and sleeping tablets have all seen a huge increase in use.

Mental health problems are still taboo though they're trying to improve things. I did roll my eyes reading a twitter post from a high up director of my company that I work with - about how we need to take care of ourselves and others whereas in reality he isn't sympathetic at all to anything which might impact the business.

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2020 11:06

DSis in Nice has just sent my photos of people panic shopping in Carrefour.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/10/2020 11:22

Ugh how depressing. Although it may be people taking advantage of large hypermarkets whilst they can.

Last time we weren't allowed to drive to bigger supermarkets and had to use the small local ones. Less choice and way more expensive.

Yes the "leaks" seem to have been very well co-ordinated! I hope college and lycée stay open as well as the primaires. The FACs will close so DD will be at home again. I think the open air work like TP and hopefully other artisans will be OK. I suppose non essential shops will close. I hope the 1km 1 hour restriction to go out is relaxed this time around. I want to keep running and cycling a lot to stay sane.
I'm so sorry for the OP in hospitality, the industry has been so badly hit. I'm OK for now but there are so many businesses who were fragile after the last lockdown and will probably go under now. It's terrible.
Why Véran and Macron did nothing about increasing the number of hospital beds after the last lockdown is beyond belief.

LaChatte · 28/10/2020 16:05

The economic fallout from this is going to be catastrophic.

Oh yes - only going to your nearest supermarket. Seems like another world, but looks like we'll be back to that again soon.

Only one person per car too.

MountainDweller · 28/10/2020 18:50

Everyone ready for Macron at 20h? I'm more anxious than I was in March ☹️ There will be wine with dinner whatever happens...

Birdladybird · 28/10/2020 18:58

Feel sick right now Sad

@InvincibleInvisibility I have to admit to having done a trolley dash around Grand Frais today. I hate the thought of another lockdown with just my tiny and expensive local supermarket. Not bothering with loo rolls etc but I really missed fish last time.

It was very noticeable how bigger shops have prepared, eg 10kg bags of flour.

LaChatte · 28/10/2020 19:04
Birdladybird · 28/10/2020 19:04

@NomadNoMore we have a restaurant so plenty of food that we can eat! Kept us going for 8 weeks last time. Wish Macron would get on with it!!

OP posts:
LaChatte · 28/10/2020 19:08

FFS man get on with it.

Whererainfalls · 28/10/2020 19:13

Fuck yeah schools are open. I think they realised what a disaster it was for kids last time round.

LaChatte · 28/10/2020 19:19

The rest is pretty shit though.

Jemenfouscompletement · 28/10/2020 20:02

Attestations again

And sport only a proximité de la maison.
But yay to schools staying open

notafanoftheman · 28/10/2020 20:30

I wonder how they are defining proximité.
