Social collapse imminent?

DP and I have just been listening to R4 PM, and the unfolding conflict surrounding tiered regional restrictions. DP reckons we are potentially 6 weeks away from some degree of escalating social collapse in the UK, and should take precautions to insulate ourselves from the impact.
Prudent or unnecessary?
What measures might those of you who may be thinking along the same lines be taking?

Why not take your concerns up with the owners of the website, or with someone official, eg MP, referencing the existence of the net as a whole?

Username, I think you are misrepresenting my OP to make a point. I am not catastrophising or scare-mongering. I backed away from the thread after explaining my position (and apologising-ish) but have just popped back as saw people were still posting. As I said, DP was musing, I was irritated and wanted a reality check, and here we are.
FWIW, I actually do think you have a point about a collective responsibility not to share things which is likely to cause harm, but I reject the insinuation that my post fall into this category. Social unrest, if not actual collapse, is not totally farfetched, it seems, so not 'stirring' as implied, but just reflecting on a possible development and what to do about it.

A gun? For the looting?

Dowser, I clarified somewhere around p3-4.

@MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes

You’re quick to respond. Are we in a WW2 situation do you think? Are we supposed to be?
Yes of course - quick response always equals WW2 situation.

I'd rather write to my MP about Grimace from McDonalds. I mean what was he anyway - he wasn't representing a hamburger or a nugget. Going to get the special pen out for this one.

Apologies if you feel misrepresented. We can agree to disagree on this one.

I doubt there will be much social unrest, it is winte and starting to be dark all the time. Riots might start in spring when the weather is better

Ok so if civil war breaks out will it be:

Pro lockdowners v anti lockdowners?
Brexiteers v remainers?
Rich v poor?
Sectarian?

North v south most likely tbh.

Ah, I hadn’t thought of that.

Supply chain disruption is going to cause a lot of problems. I would anticipate a massive uptick in elements of an unofficial economy, with profiteering, black marketeers, and a rise in associated crime, and vigilantism.

I don't think there is any group with an agenda, a plan, or any group organised enough to be capable of sustaining an outright civil war.

mathanxiety · 21/10/2020 23:22

I could however see various cities becoming separate localised political entities, if civic leaders are willing to provide strong leadership, organise volunteers to maintain essential services, commandeer vital supplies, and maintain public order. Depends on how hard the government is willing to push them to make bricks without straw.
