Which child gets the second ensuite?

Yes, another first world problem...anyway...

DH and I have 4 DCs - DTs11, DS8, DD5. Currently in a 5-bed house with 1 ensuite and 1 family bathroom.

Need to move house for DHs job. Found a house we like and are proceeding with. 5 bedrooms again so all kiddos still get their own room. Great. Master bedroom with ensuite for DH and I. Lovely. Then 4 more bedrooms. Bedroom 2 is the largest of those and also has it's own ensuite. Bedrooms 3 and 4 are similar sized to each other, and bedroom 5 is pretty tiny. And then a very small family bathroom.

So who goes where? Who gets the large 'premium room' with it's own ensuite?! Can't even take the easy option and just give it to the oldest, since they are twins (unless you start counting the 2 minute difference in birth time..)

So what would you do and who would you put in which room?!

I'd look for another house with either more or fewer en suites.

Thanks so much to everyone for all your input so far. Quite blown away by how many of you lovely MNs have offered your ideas for possible options and solutions. Been chatting various ideas through with DH, I think we're leaning towards DS8 having the ensuite, DTs having the middle 2 rooms, and DD in the small room (it's not teeny tiny, room for bed & drawers and a few toys, and space enough downstairs to have most of her toys there anyway). None of them want to share, and they're keen to get their own room and keep it until the oldest boys go to Uni, rather than swapping every so often. As some of you suspected, none of them are that actually that fussed about the ensuite, but I think DS8 will appreciate it the most - as others have said - something to make him feel special...he does get a bit lost between the twins and the girl (spot on @MarkRuffaloCrumble). As for a Jack & Jill - that could actually be possible. But it would involve knocking through an old external wall (house has been extended) and then completely reconfiguring the whole bathroom to fit in the new doorway...sounds expensive but may be an option to at least look into. As for choosing another house - that has crossed my mind, but there really isn't much available at the moment, and we really do need to get moved asap. Thanks again all Flowers

Yes!!! Grin

I think that sounds great. Plenty of sisters share bathrooms with brothers and by the time DD is hitting puberty, the twins might not be around so much.

I hate jack and Jill bathrooms! It’s two doors that need locking/unlocking, always a risk of walking in on someone. I don’t get the appeal lol.

I’d either put twins together in it and have one of the medium rooms as a guest room

Or youngest child because they have more toys

Or whoever gets the big room has to clean all the bathrooms Grin
