What's the best chocolate?

I was reading another thread where people are saying how much chocolate has changed over the years. I used to love Cadbury's but it's just nothing-y now. Really feels like eating sugar for very little reward.

Now I like Co Op's fairtrade range, and Montezuma's Absolute Black.

What did you used to like, and what do you like now?

Why is everyone so obsessed with Tony's Chocolonely?!?

Massively overrated. I was expecting big things when I bought a bar of the milk chocolate hazelnut one. It was nice, but tasted familiar..

It is, ingredient for ingredient, identical to tesco's own milk chocolate with hazelnuts (which is about a quarter of the price)

I actually get annoyed when I see people rave about it Grin

(if you're buying it for ethical reasons then fine)

howmanyroads · 14/10/2020 19:46

Anyway, the best chocolate is Lindt.. In bunny/reindeer/santa form

CloudyVanilla · 14/10/2020 19:48

Honestly it should be something much posh-er but Kinder chocolate is fricken delicious

Moser Rorh 85% for everyday.

Choccoco 80% buttons for high days and holidays. I ate a whole tub before lunch last Christmas.

I hate dark chocolate with any hint of fruitiness. I like my chocolate bitter.

CloudyVanilla · 14/10/2020 19:49

Oh yes and Lindt chocolate bunnies/teddies Halo

Baboutheocelot · 14/10/2020 19:50

My husband got an advent calendar through work from chococo and it was so good.

Yesterdayforgotten · 14/10/2020 19:52

If I'm going cheap chocolate I like galaxy, mars, milka and some supermarket own brands. Hate cadbury now and could quite happily never eat it again (was my favourite as a child) so sad but they have ruined it.

CloudyVanilla · 14/10/2020 19:52

Also have only realised from this thread that it is Tony's and not Tuny's Blush

kowari · 14/10/2020 19:57

I love Montezuma's Absolute Black but not the cost. I occasionally buy it if it's on offer but otherwise buy supermarket brand 85%.

kowari · 14/10/2020 19:58

Oh, and M&S cherry liqueurs at Christmas.

Eckhart · 14/10/2020 19:59

@actiongirl1978

Have you tried this stuff? Totally different experience from any sweet milk chocolate. It's so good that I think it might be illegal to eat it in public..!

Hotel Chocolat- Christmas robins with the raspberry red breast

Thornton's Viennese Truffles

Lilly O'Brien's desert chocolates especially the banoffee pie one

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 14/10/2020 20:03

Oh yes Monty Bonjangles especially the popping candy one

Favourite chocolate bar is galaxy

I've just gone through the whole thread looking for a post by 'Monty Bojangles', to see which popping candy chocolate was referred to...FFS Grin

@Eckhart yes I buy that if I need some emergency chocolate and the only place available is the
Co-op!

AwkwardSquad · 14/10/2020 20:31

The Chocolate Society
Lindt - the plain one with whole hazelnuts
Seed and Bean
Still like a Ferrero Rocher every now and then
Ritter Sport coconut
Those M&S sea salt fudge bites that a pp mentioned go down far too easily

blue25 · 14/10/2020 20:34

I don’t get the fuss about Tony’s. Definitely overrated.

Another Lindt fan here. M&S Swiss chocolate also good.

AwkwardSquad · 14/10/2020 20:36

Lauden Chocolate as well - gorgeous

Sexnotgender · 14/10/2020 20:37

@Bearsbearsbears40

I had a Tony’s milk chocolate sea salt caramel bar not long ago and was really disappointed. Way too much salt. I’m back to choosing between Lindt balls (classic red ones) or a Toffee Crisp!
That’s my favourite one. Sooooo good. Salty deliciousness.
Littlefiendsusan · 14/10/2020 20:41

My local B&M are selling 300g bars of hazelnut dark Godiva for £1.50 which is my current favourite.

Yes definitely. Willies Cacao. This is my absolute favourite lower percentage dark chocolate. Very nice. Booths used to sell it at a very reasonable price, I don't know if they still do.
