And in order of 3 most favourite, what do you get?

We get about every 3 months

  1. Greek: souvlaki kebab platter.
  2. Fish and chips
  3. Thai.

Im going to try and cut it down. Maybe twice a week max.

This thread is really eye opening.

Evening meal - 4 nights a week on average (eat out the other three). Chinese, Thai, Greek, burger/kebabs.

Breakfast - everyday either takeaway or cafe.

Lunch - everyday either takeaway or cafe.

During lockdown we had hello fresh each day. Eating at home is only ever really snacks or occasionally if we have guests.

I've always fancied this life- I know someone who lives in NYC and this is her routine too- it just seems so glamourous- and also dependent on if you have a big variety of options!

Maybe once a fortnight in summer, as we like to go on a long walk in the evening and get fish and chips half way to eat by the river.
Otherwise takeaways are maybe once every couple of months.

My favourites are Vietnamese, Thai and Mexican; rest of the family prefer Pizza, Indian and Chinese.

So we usually compromise on either fish and chips or Indian as the ones we can all agree on!

LindaEllen · 06/10/2020 15:38

We get takeaway far more often than we should. We'd lose weight and save money if we stopped this stupid habit!

So, we 'limit' ourselves to one a week which is either Friday or Saturday, but then if we've both been really busy and neither of us wants to cook we are guilty of order something like Subway or McDonalds or a pizza.

Our favourites are:

  • Chinese (duck!)
  • Indian
  • McDonalds
  • Pizza

Blimey.

How do you make sure you're getting a good range of healthy options?

Once a month but during lock down it was once a week 😊. It was a nice treat as we are both keyworkers and homeschooling the kids.

Sometimes there may be times when we treat ourselves, but generally once a month

Fish and chips
Indian
Chinese

I'd put thai at the top but there are no decent ones around 😔

cherrybakewelllll · 06/10/2020 16:44

The last time I had one was 7th October 2018 coincidentally. We don't have any that deliver round here so I specifically remebering going to get it and it being a major let down. So we've not had one since.

Selmaselma · 06/10/2020 16:52

We only order pizza since there is a delivery that also does gluten free pizza. Maybe once or twice a month.

WorraLiberty · 06/10/2020 16:58

Once a week

Chinese
Fried Chicken
Pizza

Downwithcovid · 06/10/2020 18:33

@00100001 by ordering a range of meals from a range of takeaways, cafes and restaurants.

Loads of place do decent food these days.

Today
Breakfast - poached eggs and bacon on spinach at the cafe by work. £6

Lunch - superbowl salad, avacodo, and other healthy stuff I didn’t really recognise in a huge bowl. £9 ish, not sure

Dinner - king prawn Linguine at another cafe £9.50

positivelynegative · 06/10/2020 19:16

That’s one hell of a food budget. I trust your pension will support this in later life Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 06/10/2020 19:21

During the tight lockdown, once a week:

  1. Indian
  2. Chinese
  3. Greek

Ordinarily very rarely and then would probably be fish and chips. The others we'd eat in at local restaurants.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/10/2020 19:24

@Downwithcovid do you work really long hours? I just can't imagine spending all that money even if I could afford it, but I really like cooking and enjoying preparing food at home.

40somethingJBJ · 06/10/2020 19:31

Every 2-3 weeks usually. Favourites are Chinese, kebabs from the local chippy or pizza.

user127819 · 06/10/2020 19:32

We go out for dinner once a week every week, sometimes we have the odd thai midweek.

Friendsoftheearth · 06/10/2020 19:36

We have sushi once a week too fresh from waitrose or YO sushi
Some Sundays the local restaurant provide a home cooked roast to take out, and it is the best!!

Scurvy?

Spinach twice (loads of it) peas in the linguine. Poached eggs. Quinoa, peppers and all sort of other stuff on top of salad. Prawns?

Jesus, is that not a balanced mumsnet days worth of food?

Downwithcovid · 06/10/2020 19:55

Quoted wrong post sorry. There was one about scurvy but my stupid phone isn’t showing it now.

Oneandzero · 07/10/2020 11:37

Never.
Never ever.

Vast majority of these kebab, pizza type delivery places.... the people preparing and cooking the food don’t look like people I want touching my food.

Not PC but there we go!

How snobby and unpleasant.
ShelbyCherryBlossom · 07/10/2020 11:50

Once a week, always Dominos.

Oneandzero · 07/10/2020 11:55

I agree.
It is snobby and intelligent

But when it comes to food in eating... I’m willing to accept that I’m being snobby and Unpleasant!
