ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

Where I'll be leaving it for, no one will be hounding me to pay the bill.

I just got my letter to apply for my pension - payable from January. Research shows, darling Rishi, wants to drop the 'triple' lock that was part of the manifesto.

The one that says state pension goes up the rate of inflation %, the rise in wages % or 2.5% whichever is most. Luckily Boris said 'No' this time. Bet it's up for grabs soon enough.

RobinHobb · 04/10/2020 22:25

Ergh. Year 5 form tutor has tested positive so they are back in isolation, rest of school come in as normal.
This is a fucking game of whackamole.
It's only a matter of time before DD year group is sent home, but it's that low level underlying anxiety when you don't know when the sword is going to fall. At the best of times I find this lack of control hard but now it's excruciating.

Add to that, I was told by consultant to shield at the start of all this and am vulnerable I am a little scared of getting sick too. I don't mind getting a little sick but I find it really hard to be properly sick and take care of sick children at the same time (I had the pneumonia earlier this year and was taking care of the dc on my own (2 under 4) and it was very hard).

RobinHobb · 04/10/2020 22:31

Posted too soon.
Anyway it is what it is vis a vis me getting sick. I went with DH (total dementor) to a garden center for the first time in ages with the kids. He was going nuts about them touching things and people getting too close etc. After a while when I told him to relax he hissed at me "we are in the middle of a pandemic you know" I really struggled to not laugh!

I did say to him that I'm more likely to be killed by a stray peanut (very very very VERY severe allergy) and somebody accidentally spilled peanuts all over the floor right next to me after baby ballet the other day..., so in perspective the fact that somebody came within a meter of me isn't stressing me out that much. I guess my risk meter is a bit skewed but nobody has banned peanuts yet... or put a national lockdown on the peanut eating majority of the uk.

It's all bonkers

CruCru · 04/10/2020 22:40

Yep, I know what you mean RobinHobb. Apparently I now smirk whenever anyone mentions the restrictions. I mean, I keep to the rules and wear a mask when I’m asked to. What I do with my face shouldn’t have any effect.

I would love to have a hedgehog come into my garden. Unfortunately we have a bunch of foxes so it might not survive.

HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 22:44

"NPHET have just recommended the whole country go to level 5 lockdown. Wtf. No visitors in your house, no social gatherings outside, gyms and leisure centres closed, no sport, hairdressers closed etc. More or less back to the original lockdown.

I really hope the government don't agree with this but they have agreed with all recommendations"

Angry

No hair done, No Christmas spend.

HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 22:46

We have one of the most elderly populations in our area and we have had 0 deaths at all and 0 cases since March

A national lockdown would be completely disproportionate.

HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 22:49

DH has been advising me for the past four years to go for my Italian passport. Hes brought it up again on several occasions lately.

amicissimma · 04/10/2020 22:55

Well that's helpful. Not.

I ran into an elderly acquaintance who lives alone. She was fighting tears. As it was raining I persuaded her into a cafe for a chat. The numbers here have been around 15 per 100,000 per week for ages so I thought it was reasonably unrisky. And it did seem to do her good.

Tonight I discover that the previous weeks figures are closer to 90 per 100,000. Probably no reason to assume she (and I) will succomb, but I would have tried harder to find somewhere under cover outdoors for her benefit if I'd known. So much for doing her good.

HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 22:58

Not sure how a homeless woman having to pick up and use a discarded mask so she can access food and medicine is classed as protecting the vulnerable. Which is what happened to someone i spoke to on Friday.

Sorry if ive already posted this here.

My OH has been advising me to get my irish passport, no thanks. NPHET sound even loopier than Whitty Vallence. We did not vote for these pseudo scientists who will never be called to task for any of their utterings.

My OH has sent me this, there is hope for my dementor at last.

When you have 15 minutes please watch this.

Thanks, justasking111. I can go to bed rather less convinced that I've just killed a lovely elderly lady.

I feel cheated. I have had some scrumptious breakfast buffets in hotels but never once did I ever see a phallic strawberry.

Never.

I want by money back

That is outrageous.

I often wonder how homeless people manage with handwashing etc

We had some beauties in the last few pages of the previous thread, of both sexes although not with breakfast Grin

For anyone wanting to avoid Smunts, don't go to the woods on rain-beaten wash-out days, they allegedly congregate there in their wellies and all-in-ones. It's the new season's version of banana bread and rainbows Grin

Following my outrage about the sticking coloured in pumpkins in your window nonsense on the last thread, I saw a post last night about colouring in poppies as there'll be no remembrance parade.
I just rolled my eyes. No energy to respond. DH asked why I was eye rolling and when I read it out to him he just said...

"For fucks sake, at this rate some people won't be able to see out of their bloody windows by December"

It made me laugh.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/10/2020 06:57

Have to admit I'm feeling despondent today.
Still feeling shit post flu jab and now woke up to the news of the case reporting fuck up. So govt have missed the opportunity to track and trace 15k cases.....
How can they still not have this right 8 months in???? We are never getting out of this as long as they continue to fuck up, yet they have the absolute fucking nerve to tell us we are in this mess because we aren't behaving.
They're a bloody disgrace.

chocolatesweets · 05/10/2020 06:58

Hi everyone 👋🏻

chocolatesweets · 05/10/2020 07:06

The more we try and control the virus, the worse it gets.

After driving myself mad, I'm adopting the idea of bringing it on! Bring on the lockdown. It will destroy the UK and hopefully bring about social changes that need to happen.

We need investment. We've needed it for a long time.
