Trump +ve for Covid

If he was a decent person I'd be wishing him well. He's not. I'm not.

OP posts:
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 02/10/2020 08:44

He won't die.

CaraDuneRedux · 02/10/2020 08:45

I fear Elements' analysis is right. Whatever happens is unlikely to be good.

He has it mildly - his covid denialism goes into overdrive after his recovery.

He has it badly - election thrown into chaos.

Given the known time-frame for covid - he dies within a week of the election being due. Election thrown into chaos.

He's given it to Biden - even more chaos.

Any Americans with a good grasp on US constitutional law know what happens if a party's main candidate dies a matter of weeks before the election? Would Pence, as second on the ticket, automatically become the Republican's candidate? Many ballots have already been cast via postal votes with Trump's name on the ballot papers - what would happen to these?

AlternativePerspective · 02/10/2020 08:45

I think this thread is inappropriate and in poor taste and have reported. Well, obviously in an ideal world it would be better if no-one ever discussed him at all and that he be allowed to fade into obscurity. But given he feels he has a platform at every occasion and his (allegedly) being tested positive is headline news all over the world, it can hardly be considered to be appropriate that people are discussing it.

TeddyIsaHe · 02/10/2020 08:46

God imagine being so ‘nice’ you think Trump deserves sympathy 😂 I’d much rather be a heartless bitch and use my sympathies for people who deserve it.

Seconded!

Though with my rational hat on, the chaos this is going to cause in the run-up to the election (which is only a month away - incidentally, roughly the same time frame as onset of symptoms to death if it does turn serious) probably outweighs my Schadenfreude.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/10/2020 08:50

Fake news-he’s a liar-he doesn’t have it

Roussette · 02/10/2020 08:51

Totally agree with last two posts

Trump has belittled, ridiculed, ranted about anyone wearing a mask. Karma tenfold.

He said 'it is what it is' about 100,000 deaths in the US. And we're expected to be sympathetic not sure it's true anyway

Amen.
RepeatSwan · 02/10/2020 08:52

I don't wish anyone ill, but I think it is fair to say Trump appeared unmoved by his fellow citizen's experiences with Covid.

There may be political ramifications whatever course his illness takes. I'm incredibly worried by how turbulent the world feels at the moment.

RepeatSwan · 02/10/2020 08:54

Citizens' that should be! 200,000 deaths so far? Astounding numbers when you stop to think of it.

GeorgeDavidson · 02/10/2020 08:54

Shows the state of affairs when you can't even believe that he actually has it...

Livelovebehappy · 02/10/2020 08:58

TeddyIsaHe Obviously you don’t need to fall over yourself with sympathising, but to actually wish death and illness on someone (unless maybe they’re a mass murderer) is kind of a bit sick and pretty unpleasant. Do you apply that way of thinking to anyone in your life who doesn’t share your opinions?

MoonJelly · 02/10/2020 08:58

As much as I dislike him I wouldn't wish covid or ill health on anyone

I said this about Johnson, but at the time I did say I could make an exception if it were Trump. And I have to say I still feel that way, because of the dreadful harm he has done to so many people.

Babdoc · 02/10/2020 08:58

Trump is unlikely to die. He’ll get current best treatment, including hyperimmune plasma from recovered patients.
The only uncertainty is whether he is left with long term debility, which could affect his ability to function ad president. Not that he had much ability in the first place...

yetanothernamitynamechange · 02/10/2020 09:01

I think its really sad that so many people are wishing him ill. Says more about them than him.

Now, I havent actually seen or heard anyone specifically wishing him ill. Speculating about what would happen yes. Maybe enjoying the kama/irony yes. But most people are just discussing it. However, the above is going to be the line his press people and supporters will take. And people will be upset by all the imaginary people wishing ill on the president it will increase his support. Plus now criticising him/his corona-virus response will be seen as mean because he's poorly.

AnnaFour · 02/10/2020 09:01

You know, there was an article in The Atlantic is somewhere similar about him being ‘America’s abusive father’ after that debate. And what do abusers tend to do when they’re cornered? Bring out the big sympathy pity party thing by - threatening suicide, faking mental breakdowns or claiming they have a really serious illness.

Not saying this is the case here but it’s certainly fits that pattern. Couldn’t have got it at a better time could he?

CaraDuneRedux · 02/10/2020 09:02

Pretty much what I said to DS this morning. He'll be getting interferon, the works.

Also agree with your second sentence - could lead to cognitive impairment long term, but how would we be able to tell?

I also agree with the PP. Boris is a narcisisstic, self-serving, selfish, incompetent buffoon, but I was still (surprisingly) upset when he got ill and wished him well. Trump however is actually evil. My only feelings when he eventually pops his clogs will be sadness that it didn't happen sooner, before he did so much damage to America.

midsomermurderess · 02/10/2020 09:03

I'm worried that this will lead to an upswing in support for him out of sympathy. The same thing happened with Johnson. As Carole Cadwalladr says, it also silenced press & parliament at a key moment in the crisis from asking critical questions. 'Everything about this is rocket fuel for ‘'patriotism’'.

felineflutter · 02/10/2020 09:03

*Are you planning to report the entire Internet? And all our national newspapers?

Why on earth are we not supposed to discuss this?*

No problem with discussing Trump and how having Covid might effect the Election but to use it to wish ill health and even death is a disgrace.

YayoKireZukusi · 02/10/2020 09:04

I genuinely hope he survives. Because if he dies either in office or shortly after losing the forthcoming election, people will be restrained, due to respect for the dead, from being fully descriptive of quite what a disaster his presidency has been. Only if he recovers will everyone have the true freedom to be completely honest about just how awful he is.

Roussette · 02/10/2020 09:05

USA
4% of world's population
20% Covid deaths

Disgraceful. Down to Trump.

So my sympathy is missing. I want him to live and face up to his crimes.

AlternativePerspective · 02/10/2020 09:05

Media already speculating that it’s fake news.

I think its quite easy to wish ill on someone when it’s unlikely that it’s real anyway.

1dayatatime · 02/10/2020 09:05

My predictions and time to name change to mystic meg again :

Firstly let's assume the tests are genuine although I wouldn't put it past Trump to have faked this. Secondly the fact that Trump is between 9 and 10 points behind in the polls.

  1. Scenario 1 - Trump gets very ill and dies. Trump becomes a martyr to the right wing, His daughter Ivanka runs for and wins the 2024 election. Pence runs instead for the 2020 election which will be close but has a better chance of winning than Trump

  2. Scenario 2 - he gets very ill but recovers in a month or two. Pressure on Biden not to campaign during this time. Trump loses election claims the election result is unfair as he was ill, election should have been postponed plus falsely claims dodgy postal votes.

  3. Scenario 3 - he is asymptotic then says he was right all along that covid is not such a big deal and look at how healthy he is etc.

  4. Scenario 4 - Biden gets tested positive. A long illness or death and Trump wins.

As much as I don’t wish ill on anyone, I really hope he does get ill. Otherwise it will be Catastrophic for America.

Although I do have one eyebrow raised at his positive test.
