Which items do you always buy branded?

I buy lots of supermarket own brand things and will always give a supermarket brand a go, but some things just don't measure up for me!

Some of the things I always buy the big brand are Birdseye peas and McVities rich tea biscuits.

What are yours?

Rose's Lime Juice.

MoonDelay · 19/09/2020 19:08

Country Life butter or Cunty life as I like to call it because it's expensive! I absolutely love butter but it's hard as fuck and Cunty life is the best alternative.

MoonDelay · 19/09/2020 19:12

Oh and bread, always has to be blue Warburtons. I cannot stand most others especially not the own brand stuff. There's one particular brand I won't buy because it smells like pigeon shit 😄

worcestersauce29 · 19/09/2020 19:30

Heinz tomato sauce
Daddies Brown Sauce
Roses Lime Cordial
Fairy Washing up liquid
Heinz Baked Beans
Sarsons vinegar
Bisto Gravy Powder

jenniuol · 19/09/2020 19:34

Philadelphia cheese
Lurpak
Heinz tomato/bbq sauce/tomato soup/Mayo
Coke Zero
Ribena
Warburtons crumpets
Birdseye waffles
McCain chips
Fairy liquid/dishwasher tabs
Lenor
Andrex toilet roll

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 19/09/2020 19:40

Oh yes agreed about fairy liquid. I honestly think you need twice as much with own brand stuff so works out just as good to get fairy

Thinking about it there are quite a lot:

We are brand loyal to:
Tea, coffee, fizzy drinks
Wine
Beans
Ketchup
Butter
Cereal
Pasta
Peanut butter
Pesto
Nappies
Wipes
Soap
Washing up liquid

We buy own brand:
Spaghetti hoops
Mayo
Jam
Rice
Cheese
Bread
Kitchen roll
Sanitary products
Greek yogurt
Porridge oats
Olive oil
Tissues

We buy branded when on special (switch brands as to what is on special)
Toilet roll
Cleaning products
Laundry products
Toothpaste
Crisps
Kids yogurts
Shampoo and conditioner
Handwash

princesspeppax · 19/09/2020 19:46

Coca cola
Nutella

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 19/09/2020 19:53

Robinson’s squash
Heinz bakes beans
Green giant sweet corn
Jackson’s bread
Kellogg’s cereal
Smiths crisps with the salt bag
Vitalite
Violife cheese
Baxter’s tinned soup
Tinned tomatoes unless from Lidl
Iron bru
I do try the non branded versions and some are better such as coop ketchup, but some aren’t

Nottobesoldseparately · 19/09/2020 19:58

Kelloggs Crunchy Nut/Frosties
Lurpak
Pepsi Max
Hellmans Mayo
Heinz salad cream and ketchup and beans
Tetleys tea bag (for DH)
Clinique
Tampax
Robinson's juice
McVities chocolate digestives
Fairy liquid
Daz

DH would be more brand loyal/snobbish but it's me that does the shopping and pays for it, so we at least try other brands first.

TroysMammy · 19/09/2020 20:01

Ribena

CamelotSweetheart · 19/09/2020 20:12

Since lockdown, when certain items were harder to come buy I became more flexible in trying different brands and I've found some things which are much better in own brand - Nutella is one (much prefer Tesco's own - it's much nuttier and less sickly), Sacla Pesto another - have found that fresh own brand pesto is around the same price and soooo much nicer (can be frozen).
What's the worst that can happen if you try something different for once? If you don't like it you can go back to branded next time. You might find something much nicer and often cheaper.

SciFiScream · 19/09/2020 20:14

I've tried loads of alternatives but always prefer

Decaf PG Tips
Kellogg's Frosties
McVities Rich Tea

Most other things I can get used to. Actually prefer Lidl Jaffa Cakes!

newtb · 19/09/2020 20:31

Marmite
Rose's lime marmalade
Nestlé milk dessert choc

Sgtmajormummy · 19/09/2020 20:51

Sorry, I don’t get the De Cecco pasta love. In my experience it goes from undercooked to overcooked in a very tight window of time. Barilla is manufactured to be much more forgiving.
But, back to the OP’s question, there are only a few food product I have to buy branded:

Kellogg’s cornflakes (too many cardboardy own brands as a student)
Quaker oats
Lavazza ground coffee.

I’m more particular about my cleaning products!

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 19/09/2020 21:00

For those buying green giant sweet corn-I used to buy this but now buy Tesco's finest frozen sweet corn. Don't like the taste of the cheapest frozen but the finest stuff is so good.

Thanks for the tip I might just invest in some Smile

Wetweekend99 · 19/09/2020 21:08

Its not branded but I only buy m and s ketchup. Its delicious.

I don't think there is anything im brand loyal about? I don't like supermarket bread so I always buy branded but I don't care if its hovis or Warburton. Thats it I think.

Madreb · 19/09/2020 21:08

Tinned sweetcorn.
Green Giant only

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/09/2020 21:13

Perrier-Jouet La Belle Epoch Champagne.

GrinWink

In reality just coke and Hellman's mayonnaise.

Tequilamockinbird · 19/09/2020 21:15

Pepsi Max
Andrex toilet roll
Heinz ketchup
Heinz beans
Lurpak

Mollypolly2610 · 19/09/2020 21:20

Colman’s mustard
Bistro gravy granules
Heinz Mayo

notso · 19/09/2020 21:35

Coca Cola although I barely drink it now it has to be proper Coke, not diet or zero
Marmite
Longley farm cottage cheese
Fairy liquid
Uncle Bens rice, I manage to mess up every other brand
Country life or Castle Dairies butter
Yorkshire tea
Birdseye garden peas, DH wouldn't believe me that peas differed and bought a giant bag of own brand but conceded they were tough as old boots
DS1 only likes cathedral city or colliers cheddar
DS2&3 only eat M&S carrot, swede and potato mash
DD only likes Philadelphia cheese spread and vimto
