Which items do you always buy branded?

I buy lots of supermarket own brand things and will always give a supermarket brand a go, but some things just don't measure up for me!

Some of the things I always buy the big brand are Birdseye peas and McVities rich tea biscuits.

What are yours?

Toothpaste
Washing up liquid

These are the two biggies, obviously I am getting old and boring but have realised these two things are not satisfactory if not one of the 'big' brands. Happy to hear of own brands that are great but find the supermarket or budget versions of these don't clean as well.

Aworldofmyown · 19/09/2020 21:51

I was about to write a list of the few branded things, then realised its a really long list Shock
Two things that are definitely better are Napolina tinned tomatoes and Mcvities Digestives!

Whole Earth peanut butter
Fairy platinum dishwasher tabs

Midnight0 · 19/09/2020 22:19

Coke
Fairy washing up liquid

Whathappenedtothelego · 19/09/2020 22:46

More than I'd first thought:

Marmite
Colman's English mustard
HP sauce
Coca Cola
President Camembert
St Agur blue cheese
Longley farm cream cheese
Longley farm cream
Fage Total Greek yoghurt
Rose's lime cordial
Proper Nutty Yorkshire peanut butter
Warburton's bagels and crumpets
Knorr stock cubes
Mcvities digestives

To be honest everything really
It doesn't make a huge difference on costs in the grand scheme of things and knowing everyone will eat it is so worth it to me

eatsleepread · 19/09/2020 23:01

Most cereals, but especially Cornflakes and Rice Krispies (has to be Kellogg's).

eatsleepread · 19/09/2020 23:02

I actually prefer Tesco Weetabix to the branded stuff though.

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/09/2020 23:05

Lyons tea
Mitchum deodorant
Ariel pods
Duracell batteries

safariboot · 19/09/2020 23:06

Not much, because I'm cheap. It's mostly own brands here. But we insist on Hellman's mayonnaise, particular coffee brands, and Marmite. We argue about whether Napolina tomatoes are worth the money.

DickKerrLadies · 19/09/2020 23:10

Nothing any more.

It used to be Fairy, but that's gone shit nowadays and Aldi's own is better and cheaper.

LadyLovelyLockz · 19/09/2020 23:13

Branston beans.

Ice cream is usually B&J or Haagen Daz rather than supermarket.

Cat litter is always Catsan and costs us a bloody fortune but we've tried cheaper versions and they make the job much more unpleasant!

Everything else is non brand, or branded but on offer and therefore cheaper.

BertieBob · 19/09/2020 23:23

HP

Cherry Pepsi

Tampax pearl

Mitchum

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 19/09/2020 23:30

Williamson’s earl grey tea

That’s all I can think of, anything else can be supermarket own brand

movingonup20 · 19/09/2020 23:33

@topcat2014

Me neither. I'll buy own brand of everything given a chance

movingonup20 · 19/09/2020 23:35

@Afwan

On eat well for less they taste tested the "lady pasta" and the household preferred Lidl own brand.

louderthan · 19/09/2020 23:36

Marmite

Cat food (very fussy cat)

Coke/diet Coke

AnnaSW1 · 19/09/2020 23:40

Peas
ketchup
Cereal
Coffee
Bread
Chocolate

choirmumoftwo · 19/09/2020 23:41

Hellmans mayonnaise
Branston baked beans
Colmans mustard powder for DH

Longdistance · 20/09/2020 00:08

Branston pickle
Marmite
Clinique make up except my mascara which is Lancôme.

1starwars2 · 20/09/2020 00:17

Aldi own marmite is rank BTW.
I like own brands but would always buy branded:
Crisps
Marmite
Ben and Jerrys
Quorn

1starwars2 · 20/09/2020 00:22

Oh, and of course Felix ( what do they put in it? ) Dcat turns her nose up at anything else....

DilysPrice · 20/09/2020 00:25

There are some things which are only really available in one brand, like Bisto gravy powder, Roses lime cordial and Marmite (I’m not near an Aldi to check their alternative)

Of the things which have readily available supermarket own brand alternatives, the only ones I’m faithful to are Kellogg’s cornflakes, Sensodyne, Imperial Leather and Heinz beans/ketchup.

Sewsosew · 20/09/2020 00:26

DeCecco pasta
Heinz beans and ketchup
Diet Coke
Lurpak spreadable

I asked fat cat and he said - whiskas in gravy, anything else and I ain’t eating that shit.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 20/09/2020 01:21

Peanut butter
Plant milks
