What is your favourite red wine

Haybo26 · 17/09/2020 22:46

I think my taste buds are changing or failing me. I always enjoyed a glass of Shiraz. But not so lately. I like deep, full bodied red wine, not sweet. Hit me with your recommendations please.

Malbec.

So drinkable 🍷🍷

Thunderpunt · 17/09/2020 22:52

Aglianico or Montepulciano - or even Primitivo, with some good cheese

Shizzlestix · 17/09/2020 22:52

Côtes de Luberon. Tastes like liquorice.

At the minute, Barefoot Merlot. Tis lovely Smile

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 17/09/2020 22:55

Malbec or Sangiovese although I've become more of a white wine woman in recent times.

PickAChew · 17/09/2020 22:55

I have many favourites but i second a malbec. The Trapiche Pure from Coop is very good.

Veterinari · 17/09/2020 22:55

Pinotage
Malbec
Tempranillo

All full bodied

Mrsmophead · 17/09/2020 22:58

An Argentinan Malbec. Loving Trivento at the minute. 6quid in Asda.

Haybo26 · 17/09/2020 23:00

I'm making a note of these recommendations, thank you so much. Keep them coming🍷.

Try out a wine club, they have great selections.
I second Argentinian Malbec, lots of Italian reds are delicious, maybe Nero d'Avola?

ArticulateYourLife · 17/09/2020 23:02

Yes, Malbec is the new Shiraz.

Greybutterfly · 17/09/2020 23:03

Rioja. Check out the square coloured labels on the back to help identify the difference if trying for the first time

Lightningrain · 17/09/2020 23:04

Primitivo
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Barbera
Ribera
Pinot Noir
Tempranillo

These are my favourites. I’ve never had an Italian red I’ve not liked so I tend to look at the Italian selection first. I love going on holiday to Italy. Aperol spritz aperiitivo and red wine with dinner every evening!

WildRosie · 17/09/2020 23:06

Zinfandel or Pinotage. Don't care for Malbec, it tastes like cough medicine.

Rubytoosday · 17/09/2020 23:10

Carmenere

caughtalightsneeze · 17/09/2020 23:11

I love Malbec. And I also love the taste of cough medicine, so maybe that explains it.

I spent many years thinking I didn't like Merlot but recently discovered that actually I must have just been put off by a terrible bottle.

My favourite wine at the moment is a Californian red wine blend called Apothique. I thought a blend meant that it was just all the rubbish mixed together, it doesn't sound very classy. But it tastes amazing.

PurBal · 17/09/2020 23:13

A classic but a goody: Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Sakura7 · 17/09/2020 23:17

Montepulciano is my favourite. Also second the Barefoot recommendation.

HolyMerlot · 17/09/2020 23:18

Lindeman's Tollana Shiraz Cabernet (tonight's tipple of choice)

Jam Shed Shiraz

Barefoot Malbec

19 Crimes

McGuigan Black Label Merlot

Hardys Crest Cabernet Sauvignon

Southern Point Shiraz-Merlot

Luis Felipe Edwards Reserva Merlot

Wbeezer · 17/09/2020 23:20

Ive just discovered Malbec too, added bonus is it doesn't make my face flush as much as other red so doesn't trigger my rosacea.

HolyMerlot · 17/09/2020 23:20

Should probably qualify my reply by saying that the above aren't my favourite posh, restaurant quality, meal out, special date wines, but more my weekly food shop, wine with dinner, Friday night/Saturday night/Sunday night at home favourites Smile

Decisivelyindecisive · 17/09/2020 23:23

Bringing down the quality of the responses with my offering

Jammy Red Roo ( Yellowtail)

£6 in most Tesco's Grin

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 17/09/2020 23:28

Something European. Pinot Noir, Amarone or Faustino 1 if am feeling flush. Montepulciano in my glass at the mo.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 17/09/2020 23:30

Appassimento, which is a style of wine making rather than a specific grape, but results in really lovely wine. Usually made with a combination of French and Italian grapes.

I also love Cabernet Franc, which has a smokey, slightly mushroomy taste!

Pipandmum · 17/09/2020 23:34

I always like a cabernet. I like Mcguigan, Yellow Tail and Turners Road.
