Randomly sent my P45?

I’m so confused, I work for a car dealership and have been off on maternity due to go back on 11th October, today I’ve randomly received my end of employment p45 in the post? Yet no one from my work have told me I’ve been sacked or lost my job? There are no redundancies either. I went to message my boss on our work group chat to see I’ve been removed. I’ve never had any warnings or disciplinaries nor am I on a probation period as I’ve been there 8 and a half years. Can they legally do this?

Glad you're taking it further OP, good luck today!

This does look like a text book case of how not to handle something like this - and a slam dunk to you when you get to court op. Good luck with it, take them to the cleaners and shout about it loudly - name and shame - such bad employers need to be known about, it’s the only way to address this.

They’ll probably try to pay her off out of court with a NDA like several others upthread - bigger payout but no bad publicity Angry

Good luck today, OP Flowers

HR person here sitting with head in hands 🤦🏻‍♀️

What on earth were they thinking? From an employment law and a general 'that feels like the right thing to do' perspective?!

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/09/2020 16:50

Sad but true Giant. Sitting there with you Peace..!

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/09/2020 16:55

Hiiii, I had my virtual meeting and they’ve confirmed it is unfair dismissal

DD age 7 is being home schooled after a complete meltdown this morning with a fear of the virus. Must be after my potential payout sneaky sod ;)

Great news, @LeaLoo82. Well done.

Now to see what these weasels do next.

billybagpuss · 22/09/2020 05:10

That’s great news, what happens next. Did you receive anything else from ex work today.

Jenasaurus · 23/09/2020 09:26

Brilliant news, now take them to the cleaners :)

S00LA · 23/09/2020 13:38

Good news about solicitor.

Bad news about DD. There’s lots of resources online to help you talk to her about us and reassure her. She s not the only one .

101namesforme · 23/09/2020 15:34

So what is your next move OP, have work contacted you this week at all?

Have been lurking before but have been through similar (but different!) and started a tribunal claim years ago. Settled out of court first but the whole episode was very stressful so I do empathise with you.

AdoraBell · 23/09/2020 15:44

Fantastic result from the virtual meeting. Hang em out to dry.

Squiffany · 23/09/2020 19:14

Good news Op. now take them to the cleaners!

ForeverWondering · 23/09/2020 19:53

Good luck OP! Keep fighting for your holiday... A EXPENSIVE 5*/platinum one for the stress (add it to the money you want!) ;)

littlenickyy61 · 23/09/2020 20:12

If you have home insurance check your policy as you may well be covered for legal help. I took my employer to court for unfair dismissal and it didnt cost me a penny thanks to my home insurance policy . Good luck and keep record of absolutely everything x

Twigaletta · 23/09/2020 21:21

What an absolute idiot your boss is to think he'd get away with it. Glad you have all the evidence and support of an employment lawyer to fight for a payout.
