I have an important question. It's about biscuits.

I'm sat having a cup of tea and a couple of packets nice biscuits. Or malted milk, the ones with the cows on.

When it occured to me I've never bought a branded packet of malted milk. I always get the cheapest, I mean a malted milk is a malted milk is a malted milk. They all look and taste the same. They even all have the picture of the cow and milk churn.

Same goes for custard creams, rich tea, digestives. All the plain biscuits. the cheaper the better.

I only really spend money on fancy biscuits, barring chocolate hobnobs since I discovered the superior, Aldi ones.

So who does. Obviously plain premium biscuit buyers are out there. But who ? And what's your reasoning ?!

I did try adding a poll but couldn't figure it out 🤨

I haven't had malted milk biscuits for ages. Loved them as a child, especially since they were only a rare treat. We usually had rich tea fingers.

MissConductUS · 17/09/2020 18:53

For a store bought cookie biscuit nothing is better than Tate's.

Tate's Bake Shop

The oatmeal raisin and chocolate chocolate chip varieties are our favorites. They hardly last a day if the kids are around.

Sp1ke3 · 17/09/2020 18:53

Having conducted extensive research, I would always have an Aldi digestive over a McVities. Aldi dark chocolate digestives are much better than alternatives too.

I only buy branded digestives and rich tea, happy with unbranded other biscuits.

QuestionableMouse · 17/09/2020 18:59

I miss the iced coffee biscuits. Thick coffee icing on one side, nice crispy biscuit underneath. Cafe noir or something.

BookofJudith · 17/09/2020 19:01

All biscuits are the same once you’ve spread the butter on them, so it doesn’t matter to me whether it’s an own brand or not...

WildRosie · 17/09/2020 19:09

I don't buy biscuits that often but Lotus Biscoff are hard to beat with good quality coffee. I have had an unopened pack in the kitchen cupboard for at least a month. Must get round to scoffing them. Fox's chunky chocolate cookies are a good afternoon tea biscuit.

Crinkle77 · 17/09/2020 19:10

Yabu OP just for eating malted milk. I'll eat any own brand biscuits cos they're much of a muchness however you can't get a better chocolate digestive than Mcvities.

Goodfood1 · 17/09/2020 19:13

oh I love this post, its nice and light-hearted. My son went shopping recently and brought me the cheap versions of digestives from Asda. I agree with a lot of PP that Digestives and Rich Tea have to be McVities, the rest can be any brand so cheap is fine.

DinosApple · 17/09/2020 19:13

Home bargains malted milk aren't the same as Tesco ones.

I could still eat a whole packet of each though.

Onlymeandthedognow · 17/09/2020 19:14

Anyone remember the joy of ‘Abbey Crunch’ biscuits? They would doak up loads of tea!!
Also ‘Royal Scot’ and ‘Lincoln’ biscuits?
There seems to be far less choice than when I was growing up.
And Fruit Shortcake was always known as ‘dead fly’ biscuits😁

123456abcd · 17/09/2020 19:14

Waitrose chocolate malted milkGrin

Anordinarymum · 17/09/2020 19:16

@WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo

Oh i hate bourbons.

I've just realised I do have an exception and that's fruit shortcake. But only because the Morrisons ones hardly ever have decent fruit in..I'll happily eat cheap fruit shortcakes from elsewhere but have been known to resort to buying mcvities.

You hate bourbons, but do you like Penguins? You know they are bourbons with a coat on don't you :)
CalmConfident · 17/09/2020 19:16

I remember sports biscuits , they were my younger brothers favourites and there was a complex hierarchy about which sport was the best - he insisted some tasted better than others Grin

CokeEnStock · 17/09/2020 19:17

Waitrose choc digestives are more than acceptable. I am craving a malted milk now though. Haven't had one for years!

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 17/09/2020 19:18

@BluebellsGreenbells

MIL worked at the biscuit factory. They are all the same. Made with the same ingredients and packaged differently for different brands.
They are not all the same at all! For example digestives, I could do a taste test blindfolded and I could tell you which ones were from Tesco own brand, M and S own brand and Mcvities, they are all completely different.
BobbinThreadbare123 · 17/09/2020 19:19

The cheapest ginger nuts are the best. McVities ones are ick.

40andginger · 17/09/2020 19:20

How can anyone not like a bourbon biscuit!!! Shock

Shepherdspyreads · 17/09/2020 19:21

Has anyone experimented with fig rolls? I always go for mcvities but think there must be a better fig roll out there somewhere.

RustyBear · 17/09/2020 19:24

@averylongtimeago

Pearsapiece you what? Dead fly biscuits are Garibaldi biscuits of course!
No, Garibaldi are squashed fly biscuits
tiredanddangerous · 17/09/2020 19:27

The only branded biscuits I buy are chocolate hob nobs. Anything else is supermarket own brand. I love a malted milk dunked in a good cuppa!

RustyBear · 17/09/2020 19:28

GellerYeller · 17/09/2020 19:29

For me fig rolls have to be those deep ones rather than the fluted flattish ones with sealed ends!
I'm sure I bought sports biscuits in Home Bargains during lockdown too. And those pink mallow things with blobs of mallow covered in coconut sat on a jam smeared shortcake bisuit. I am sure they were in packs with orange ones in the 80s and called jamboree?!

MiddleClassProblem · 17/09/2020 19:29

We did a pink wafer test at work. Both pink panther and Asda own bras tasted very artificial but in different ways. Crawford’s won out.

ArtemisBean · 17/09/2020 19:29

@missyB1 Yes!!! Didn't they come in a black and white packet? Gosh that takes me back!
