I have an important question. It's about biscuits.

I'm sat having a cup of tea and a couple of packets nice biscuits. Or malted milk, the ones with the cows on.

When it occured to me I've never bought a branded packet of malted milk. I always get the cheapest, I mean a malted milk is a malted milk is a malted milk. They all look and taste the same. They even all have the picture of the cow and milk churn.

Same goes for custard creams, rich tea, digestives. All the plain biscuits. the cheaper the better.

I only really spend money on fancy biscuits, barring chocolate hobnobs since I discovered the superior, Aldi ones.

So who does. Obviously plain premium biscuit buyers are out there. But who ? And what's your reasoning ?!

I did try adding a poll but couldn't figure it out 🤨

MIL worked at the biscuit factory. They are all the same. Made with the same ingredients and packaged differently for different brands.

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/09/2020 18:19

Bourbon being an exception - you know the ones with the cries cross pattern - not nice

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 17/09/2020 18:23

Oh i hate bourbons.

I've just realised I do have an exception and that's fruit shortcake. But only because the Morrisons ones hardly ever have decent fruit in..I'll happily eat cheap fruit shortcakes from elsewhere but have been known to resort to buying mcvities.

They definitely aren't all the same. Crawfords are my favourites.
McVitie's Tasties range of biscuits are too greasy for me.
Some store brands are really good and others taste of cardboard.
I also avoid Hills as they tend to be pretty awful.

Fokarfina · 17/09/2020 18:25

No, no, no! Proper digestives and rich tea are a must! The cheap ones always taste of artificial sweetener.

I agree with you on malted milk & custard creams, though.

MashedSweetSpud · 17/09/2020 18:25

Tesco chocolate covered malted milk biscuits. God keep me away.

Pearsapiece · 17/09/2020 18:28

They're definitely not the same. The aldi digestives don't have dairy in where as mcvities do. Same with the fruit shortcake (known in our house as 'dead fly biscuits')

Cocolapew · 17/09/2020 18:30

I'll only eat McVities digestives or Rich tea. They are definitely superior Grin

ladymalfoy · 17/09/2020 18:31

Chocolate malted milk biscuits.

Mintjulia · 17/09/2020 18:33

It's the same with Jaffa cakes. We did a blind taste test when ex got all sniffy about me buying Tesco's own.

He couldn't tell the difference Grin

Theflying19 · 17/09/2020 18:33

Another vote here for McVities rich tea and digestives. Rich tea especially. So much nicer.

averylongtimeago · 17/09/2020 18:35

Pearsapiece you what? Dead fly biscuits are Garibaldi biscuits of course!

missyB1 · 17/09/2020 18:36

Random question, does anyone remember sports biscuits? They were like a malted milk but with pictures of people playing sports. They may have been iced on one side I can’t quite remember.

Margo34 · 17/09/2020 18:39

Ugh, malted milk are the Kings of boring biscuits.

Pass me a custard cream.

BakedBeeeen · 17/09/2020 18:39

Averylongtimeago is right! Smile
PeartreeProductions · 17/09/2020 18:39

Aldi Rich tea biscuits are as good as the real thing, nice dunk in the tea and no soggy mess left in the cup. Also their version of Toffypops are half the price and you can't tell the difference between them and the branded version either.

paranoiamumma · 17/09/2020 18:39

I agree with you to a certain point all biscuits such as nice , custard creams , shortbread , malted milks can be as cheap as chips I draw the line at digestives though Mcvities all the way .

Shayisgreat · 17/09/2020 18:41

Gosh I'd love a biscuit now.

Minesril · 17/09/2020 18:41

They're not the same. Morrison's value digestives are way nicer than the 'real' thing.

iklboo · 17/09/2020 18:44

The cheaper the custard cream the better for me. But dark chocolate biscuits have to be McVities.

Southernsoftie76 · 17/09/2020 18:44

No they are not all the same, there are fake custard creams out there and they are disgusting, the biscuit is too crisp and the cream is vile. Bourbons seem to all be the same whatever brand. Chocolate digestives have to be McVities.

Fannybawz · 17/09/2020 18:46

I’m a posh bitch and will ONLY demolish packets of Tesco finest cookies.... nothing else gets brought home here!’

Yes! There were like clubs!
Quackersandcheese3 · 17/09/2020 18:49

I buy asda brand biscuits for kids and dh. Digestives , rich tea, malted milks.

I’m not a biscuit muncher myself but i do enjoyed border lemon drizzle . I do really love an Asda brand milk choc digestive but I can’t control how many i eat with a cuppa so I don’t buy them.

lachy · 17/09/2020 18:50

This has been the point of many a heated discussion between our friends. Some biscuits are acceptable if they are not branded...your malted milk being one of them.

When you start on the Hobnob/Jaffa Cake/ Chocolate Digestive vs unbranded versions, and their relative merits that's when the rows start.

It has been debated (vociferously, I might add) that a common or garden digestive biscuit is boring and pointless, whereas your more fancy biscuit is always the better choice.

The counter argument is that sometimes you want a reliable dunkable biscuit, and your fancy pants biscuits just can't be dunked.
