Watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike.
Psych.

Now gather nicely in groups of no more than six...
Unless you're outdoors in Wales...

Oh well, come on in whatever the laws where you are. Plenty of space in this bubble of sanity Wink

@Howyoualldoworkme

Ok, I've been lurking and reading these threads for ages and I'm going to take the plunge and join in because everything has really started getting to me.

I'm watching the quarantine list like a hawk at the moment because we're supposed to be off on our postponed holiday to Italy on October 3rd and their numbers are just ok at the moment but who knows what the Jokers have up their sleeves next.
Obviously this makes us potential mass granny murderers so I thought I'd better join with the rest of The Damned on this thread. I'm a granny so would that be suicide? Hmm

Welcome in Grin

As lovely as it is that the thread is busying up, it is an ominous sign of the general climate.

Welcome @Howyoualldoworkme delurking is the first step. Are we getting dangerously close to needing some sort of 12 step programme to keep us all sane?

"Hello, my name is Ibake and I'm an AD" Grin

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/09/2020 10:56

Thank you Ibake and BogRollBOGOF.
I bake too, one of my sanity preservers! I bake every week for OH and adult DS but I also take some round to next door and actually go into their house!!

OH and I took early retirement from a university so were not really affected work wise. When I look at all the strictures put on students and staff at the moment I can't decide whether to weep for them or give thanks we took the leap away!
He's even more of an AD than I am, thank heavens. It must be so difficult if you live with Dementors.
Unfortunately a couple of my good friends have turned out to be full blown lip pursing arm crossing mask vigilantes which I find quite disappointing tbh.

We go to drawing classes at the local arts centre and after not seeing my family (they mostly live all over the country) that's the thing we missed the most.
They're just starting up again and now it's all in jeopardy. I know, very first world but that is where we live isn't it?

Reedwarbler · 19/09/2020 11:18

There are 2 articles in today's Telegraph that are very questioning in tone. One is 'Covid is getting less dangerous. Has no 10 noticed?' And 'Third of recent 'coronavirus victims' died of other causes'. The latter is not about the readjustment of the figures earlier in the year, but in July and August. The Telegraph is usually very supportive of the goverment (Torygraph) and Boris Johnson had a huge piece in it last week, so it comes to something when they publish critical articles so openly. I found it quite cheering.
If hospital admission figures stay low for the next month, say, what possible reason could there be for continuing the current madness? It would be akin to locking the country down for a freely circulating bad cold or 'flu, which, let's face it, is just as likely to finish off someone who is very old or compromised in some way, and that includes me.

dkl55 · 19/09/2020 11:22

Morning! I too am booked to go away for a much needed break on the 3rd @Howyoualldoworkme. Currently living in fear that that Will be taken away from me. I can't believe that it's all starting up again. I feel totally ideologically at odds with the rest of Britain. Luckily 2 women in my close circle feel the same but the vast majority think Covid is a death sentence. I got into a heated "discussion" with a friend on a watsapp group who said she was "perfectly happy to stay locked up for a year or two if it helped the vulnerable" Hmm... I wasn't actually sure where to start in response to that, least of all as she is from a very wealthy family. She also actually thought governments must have information we are or privy to, and that that was far more likely than they were all flailing mindlessly having no clue. Confused

Taswama · 19/09/2020 11:22

Yes The Spectator's front page has 'Where's Boris?' with a boat in the distance with a blond head in it.

dkl55 · 19/09/2020 11:23

*we are NOT privy to

dkl55 · 19/09/2020 11:24

I saw those @Reedwarbler - sadly I'd used my free reads so I couldn't read them! At least glas one paper is starting to question the government. The times has gone from being pretty good to being vague/supportive of a lockdownis approach

TabbyStar · 19/09/2020 11:26

There are 2 articles in today's Telegraph that are very questioning in tone.

The Times seems quite alarmist, identifying an increase in covid hospital admissions, but without telling us what the normal rate of admissions is as summer turns into autumn, presumably there's always an increase as education returns.

dkl55 · 19/09/2020 11:29

The daily mail has a version of one of the telegraph stories.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8750139/amp/Scientists-claim-UK-covid-19-victims-July-August-died-causes.html

Agree @TabbyStar - the times has become more alarmist. Despite getting early appreciation months ago fro more balanced reporting.

TheEnduringEye · 19/09/2020 11:30

Hello, my name is TheEnduringEye and I am an AD GrinWink

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/09/2020 11:34

dkl55 Double prayers (a la Victoria Wood) for the 3rd! Where are you off to?

OH had a minor heart attack in June. He's 59, 5ft 10, 8 stone (I know!) never smoked, drunk and eats healthily etc. Turns out he has two hereditary illnesses, familial hypercholesteremia and ATTR amyloidosis. Thank you Google..
He had to spend a week on the cardiac ward (in an empty hospital Hmm have stents fitted and I couldn't be with him or visit at all Sad
So this holiday is one of the things he was so looking forward to. So be on your guard Boris and Hancock, you thwart me I'll have your bollocks for bag charms!

Anyway, enough dullness, it's sunny here and I've just coloured my haggy roots! I've got a facial and threading on Tuesday and hairdressers on Thursday.
It's all about me sweetie! Grin

Ibake · 19/09/2020 11:39

With a post like that @Howyoualldoworkme I can't believe you waited so long to delurk!

I'll have your bollocks for bag charms might be my new fav expression.

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/09/2020 11:51

Ibake I'm a total thread stopper so I was reluctant to post Grin
There'll be no stopping me now!

Funnily enough OH is even more of an AD after all the health stuff. He's always been a bit of an individual, that's why his students loved him so much so I shouldn't really be surprised.
The airport and plane might be a little 'challenging'

CruCru · 19/09/2020 12:04

Welcome Howyoualldoworkme!

I've been reading the headlines this morning. The thing is, once we bloody lockdown, it's really hard to un-lockdown (which was the problem last time).

I've sent this thread to a friend of mine. She's so annoyed that she says that she's planning to move to Sweden.

ISaySteadyOn · 19/09/2020 12:05

Welcome to everyone! The more the merrier Wink.
My DH is also even more of an AD than I am. I am really glad about this because I have a tendency to anxiety.

Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 12:10

@DominaShantotto

I think I’m kind of screwed now. Two minutes of the news headlines accidentally last night and I had the worst panic attack I’ve ever had - I sat in the kids room (the youngest was refusing to go to sleep and mucking on) shaking and wanting to vomit for a good couple of hours.
((Hugs)) from me too. I think it's getting to us all but must be 100 times worse for people with real anxiety as opposed to some on MN whos onlyworry is that they didn't get fresh avocados in thier Ocado order.
Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 12:13

I'll have your bollocks for bag charms might be my new fav expression.
Oooh I need to have an excuse to.use that really soon!

Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 12:16

Just to give everyone a bit of a giggle i think we all need one .😄😄

The ADs get ready to rumble then have a nice cuppa tea
TheOrchidKiller · 19/09/2020 12:26

Welcome, new ADs.

I'll have your bollocks for bag charms
Catchy.
The only slight flaw in that plan is that I fear those particular gentlemen lost their balls a while ago....

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 19/09/2020 12:28

Welcome to the new delurkers.

I was hoping to go to Turkey in October but I keep putting off applying for my new passport - and soon it will be too late.
I normally go alone but a friend has said she wants to come with me. She is lovely, she is also disabled and I don't want that responsibility this year. She goes abroad most years with her family so I know she can cope and knows her way around the challenges but it's my week when I just read and swim and eat and drink and rarely talk to anyone apart from ordering food. I totally leave my life for a week and it is so refreshing. I love going alone and I feel so mean for not wanting to share it.

DominaShantotto · 19/09/2020 12:44

Oh here we go in the local area extra dementory time... there's an academy school whose parents spend all their time slagging off our LEA infant and primary - and one of their bubbles just popped with a positive test.

If it was our school that got the case first they'd be full of "oh inadequate measures and our Principal would never make our school so dangerous" - but it's likely to make our school extra dementory in response.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/09/2020 13:18

DD's colleague is self-isolating as her OH has a cough. He can't get a test. They've dipped into savings to buy a private one because they can't afford to stay at home & he could well be negative.

The test still takes 2 days to arrive by post, which sounds outrageous if you're paying (I looked the other day & saw some for £160). Maybe it costs more for courier delivery, I don't know?

This is a young couple who don't earn much, & hardly live a luxury lifestyle. It really isn't fair.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 13:28

Would that school be the one that has a bridge linking the two halves of the site?
If so they took over my final school, and gosh the culture changed and it became all about the dara not personalities. It had been a lovely holistic environment before that. Staff left in droves.

Well you know hospital admissions/deaths are down. Well OH was speaking to someone on high yesterday, they are not admitting the hopeless cases in our area elderly which helps their figures. I have to wonder if this is a nationwide edict. To be fair we always called flu/pneumonia the old peoples friend.
