Watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike.
Psych.

Now gather nicely in groups of no more than six...
Unless you're outdoors in Wales...

Oh well, come on in whatever the laws where you are. Plenty of space in this bubble of sanity Wink

@BogRollBOGOF

Would that school be the one that has a bridge linking the two halves of the site? If so they took over my final school, and gosh the culture changed and it became all about the dara not personalities. It had been a lovely holistic environment before that. Staff left in droves.
Nah the primary school that was attached to the army base originally.

I'm dreading my kids going to that secondary though - main reason behind my choice of school for the kids was that it wasn't one of their primaries they've taken over.

I’m another delurking for a bit.

You’d think being in a Covid free Australian state (they even test the sewerage just to be sure!) that we’d be free from bullshit rules. Sadly not.

There was a story on the local news tonight about the wedding industry being in trouble because of restrictions here. Amongst various crazy rules nobody is allowed to dance at weddings apart from the bride and groom. There are also still restrictions on hospitality. No standing up to drink for instance,

Then there’s the Christmas pageant that usually winds through the streets of the city but this year will be held at an oval. All because hey, you can’t be too careful can you?

My own sister is dementor. She was overjoyed that her office were ordered to work at home because there were a few cases in the state around a month ago. She also thinks anyone that travels interstate (where borders are open) is highly irresponsible and well, it turns them right if they get trapped there.

dkl55 · 19/09/2020 13:52

@Howyoualldoworkme - Greece! Very excited at the thought of sunshine, snorkelling, Greek food etc... it's cheered me up so now I'm really worried. You?

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/09/2020 14:05

dkl55 Desenzano, Lake Garda. A beautiful hotel that we go to every year in June but obviously had to be postponed. Quite honestly they're so immaculate and top notch around that area we'd feel safer there than here.
Just want to sit on the balcony, people watch, do a bit of sketching and shop and see different views and people.
Oh and I've lost a lot of weight over the year and I've got new clothes to wear.

And the most daft and sad reason? To wear a plane seatbelt without an extension!

I love Greece, my brother went to Skiathos in August and had a wonderful time. I was pleasantly surprised because he's the original Captain Cautious!

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/09/2020 14:06

Oh and eat wonderful food obviously Grin

SockYarn · 19/09/2020 14:14

Hello again you lot, have been ridiculously busy in recent weeks and no time to post as much. But the people whipping themselves into an ecstatic frenzy over another "proper" lockdown and rising figures have driven me back.

What a bunch of absolute idiots. Have had my fill of them already. Too fucking thick to actually look at any graphs. Definitely too thick to understand that comparisons with March are utterly pointless due to lack of data.

Fucking idiots. Arses.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 14:16

I'd noticed you fighting the good fight out there SockYarn!

Just putting it out there... I fucking hate "preppers". Because they're not prepping for anything. They're panic buying and stockpiling vast quantities of stuff.

Fuck everyone else, they've PREPPED so they are alright. They're probably sitting in the garage saying "mine, all mine" as they work themselves into a frenzy over having 25 cans of beans. Utter arses.

ISaySteadyOn · 19/09/2020 15:04

Go on, Sock. Tell us how you really feel Grin.

SockYarn · 19/09/2020 15:06
Grin

And I'm saying it on their thread too. No fucker needs 12,000 tea bags and 10kg of rice.

It's fucking selfish.

Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 15:36

I will agree to disagree with you Sockyarn.
Peppers are not greedy hoarders nor panic buyers.

There is no difference in a 'prepper' buying 2 extra tins of rice pudding one week to someone who doesnt see themselves as a prepper buying 4 tins of sonething because this week they are bogof.
I often buy a couple of extra bits to keep for the weeks I don't have much money left. Also if i have to isolate I will not get paid so having extra food in the house will save me money that I can pay my rent with.
Peppers come in all shapes and sizes some prep for power cuts, being snowed in, flooded etc as this frequently happens where they live. It's not about stock piling loads of food just for the greed of it. Usually they grown thier own and preserve food too which saves buying in supermarkets. They may also also buy a bit more decent meat when on offer and fill the freezer with home made meals ready to defrost when needed. Much better than a huge shop every week.

There really is no need to be rude to your average long-term peppers many who have lived like this for years, they aren't responsible for any shortages. They dont grab handfuls off the shelves like people were doing in March. Buying a couple of extras this week will not cause shortages in shops in December. In fact once tshtf with Brexit peppers will only be buying essentials as needed not spending an hour in Tescos filling thier trolleys to the brim with anything they can get thier hands on. The people I served in Feb and March were definately panic buyers, we couldn't refill shelves quickly enough they were like locusts. No self respecting prepper needs to do that.

amicissimma · 19/09/2020 15:49

@justasking111

OK being serious now if you have young children who make a santa list well get them to make it now. DIL has a friend high up in the toy world purchasing wise says buy now, put away or you may not get it. The slow boat from china container wise has ground to a halt so when it is gone it may be gone. So many ports around the world are refusing entry coz of covid. I am only telling you guys coz I know the media either are not reporting this or do not know.
I don't think you need to worry too much about this, justasking111. Apart from the annual panic when everyone decides they have to have the same toy at the last minute.

Friends who live near one of the UK's largest container ports don't report any noticeable decrease in container shipping movements, and unfortunately they have plenty of time to watch them. Likewise on Marine Traffic (IMHO even more addictive than Flight Radar), cargo seems much as usual, although the passenger ships and cruise ships are affected, of course.

OTOH, someone 'high up in the toy world' has good reason to encourage people to buy their products sooner rather than later.

Littlebelina · 19/09/2020 16:00

I will own up to being a little bit of a prepper (as in will nearly always have a month of dried goods in and spare meat in the freezer) but not hit the 10kg of rice stage. Very much like Willow says we just buy a little extra some weeks and make sure I buy a new pack of loo rolls when I open the one I have in. Definitely don't panic buy (no buying of 17 tins of boiled potatoes we'll never use) and don't preach/be smug at people who can't afford/ don't have space to keep extra in. However especially at moment find it useful to keep extra in incase we need to self isolate for 2 weeks. DH was ill at beginning of lockdown and couldn't get online delivery for love nor money and having a stockpile meant we didn't have to ask friends to tackle the supermarket for us.

Unfortunately can't stockpile fresh fruit which my kids devour but luckily incase of emergency they're happy with chocolate WinkGrin

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 19/09/2020 16:09

Single parent who lived 50 miles from Tesco here. Got floored by flu and ran low on supplies. Ran out of milk. Hard lesson learned. Have also in the past been 100% reliant on benefits. Always wanted the larder full just in case they put the kybosh on it for any reason.

I have literally NO excuse for the 22 fancy soaps I’ve hoarded from tk maxx - nobody is that dirty. 😁

Funkypolar · 19/09/2020 16:15

No more Clap for Carers and rainbows. Please.

Bollss · 19/09/2020 16:19

I'm an accidental prepper in that I never check the cupboards or the freezer before I go to the supermarket and as a consequence could feed the 5000 if they popped in unexpectedly!

DominaShantotto · 19/09/2020 16:21

@Funkypolar

No more Clap for Carers and rainbows. Please.
Oh god yes no more clapping/horn honking/fireworks/morale-boosting public performances/projected lightshows of rainbows onto houses.

All of which we had on the Thursday night 2 minute hate round here.

Littlebelina · 19/09/2020 16:22

We get like that with cheese sometimes. DH always gets it even if we have a cheese mountain. Had to have someone into to fix fridge in lockdown and was embarrassed by our cheese empire that I couldn't hide!
BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 16:36

A propper prepper doesn't need to buy extra now because they'll have kept stocks maintained in a reasonable anticipation of quarentine or the much fabled SECOND WAVE which logically was far more likely to be in the autumn than from people queuing outside Primark. They won't be plundering shelves now, because they're sorted anyway.

Propper preppers picked a pinch of pickled peppers Grin

Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 17:07

I buy extra because my kids keep eating whats in the cupboards. (If i didn't have 2 hungry teens it would be much easier!) so i always have a bit extra in🤣🤣

NothingIsWrong · 19/09/2020 17:11

Not sure if I'd count as a prepper. I buy pasta in 3kg bags anyway and always buy one when the last one runs out, so I've got one in hand so to speak.

I was rather embarrassed by my stocks of loo roll the last time round, but the 9 packs had been on BOGOF when I was last in the supermarket so I'd got two, even though we had most of the previous 9 pack left. I'm rubbish at rotating stock etc though, so often find a folorn tin of something well out of date....

JamSarnie · 19/09/2020 17:19

Welcome to all the delurkers.

I still have lots of toilet roll as we shop in Costco and it's impossible not to bulk buy Grin

DH can at times be slightly D but I keep pulling him back to reality Wink

I'm less down today as I have been so busy cleaning and doing diy I haven't read any news. I ache though so won't be able to walk very well tomorrow with all the stretching and lifting.

Willow2017 · 19/09/2020 17:28

Found this while doing all my repotting tidying up pots today! It's huge!!!!
At least if we run out of meat...
