What is on your worktop

Dull I know but reading about very few people having a bread bin made me wonder what do others have on their worktops?

I have the usual kettle, toaster, microwave, I also have a bread bin, fruit bowl, tea and coffee jars, egg basket, utensils holder, a pestal and mortar, a box of tissues, and often a vase of flowers!

Probably over crowded but all my cupboards are full!

So what do you have hidden and what is out on show?

The items out we use daily so it's more for convenience!

I really enjoy hearing what everyone as in their kitchen out on show.

What about in your bathroom?

In our main bathroom I only have a soap dispenser and toothbrushes on the window ledge.

On the bath side o have two candles and a basket with the children's toiletries.

All other beauty items are in a storage unit that has drawers.

Oh I do have a toilet brush (they are hated on MN) and a few spare toilet rolls.

What about yours?

@AshenQueen many thanks. There was a sugar one lurking amongst all the kelter too! I admired my sister's and she bough me some for Christmas. Only BandM Bargains but they're lovely aren't they 🙂

Kettle
Coffee, tea and 2 sugar canisters (1 for proper sugar and 1 for dh's artificial sweetener)
Toaster
Microwave
2 utensil holders
Kitchen roll holder
Bread bin
Biscuit tin
iPod/ cd/ radio player
2 water filter jugs

We've always had the same. Only extra thing used to be the steriliser when ds was a baby. To me they are all essential and need to be there

SenorFrog · 14/09/2020 02:54

I was feeling all happy about my clutter free worktops; KitchenAid and kettle, everything else in my pantry. Smug smug smug. And then you just had to ask about the bathroom! Whhhhy?

Anordinarymum · 14/09/2020 03:08

I have more than one worktop so spread around the kitchen are:-

Kettle on one with a biscuit jar...

Bread bin and wooden boards stacked at the side and toaster on another..

Microwave on another

Next to cooker are two jars with utensils

I don't have coffee and tea on display. They are in the cupboard above the kettle I also don't have things like fairy liquid out either.

On the window sill are kitchen roll and alexa.

Having said all that - if I go out - when I return home the whole place will be cluttered with other people's rubbish

starfishmummy · 14/09/2020 03:17

All the bottles and jars of various hideous sauces and pickles that only dh eats, he gets them out and never puts back! They go on the top shelf - I can't reach it to put them away unless I get the steps out. And thats just a waste of time because they'll all be out again within a day!

ChilliBeanSauce · 14/09/2020 03:37

Knife block and soap and food processor. I have lots of cupboard space. Moving to a doer upper soon however with no cupboards Confused

Mintjulia · 14/09/2020 03:54

Bread bin (where else do people keep their bread?)
Fruit bowl
Chopping board
Kettle
Toaster
Trivet
Bottle of cooking red
Gin (but that's not normally there Smile)

And hand soap.

Eminybob · 14/09/2020 04:11

Bread bin
Another bread bin full of snacks for the dc
Kettle
Toaster
Juicer
Assortment of water bottles/sippy cups for the dc
Small wine rack
Squash bottles - they are in use so often no point putting them away.
Large cornflake box as it doesn’t fit in the cupboard
2 chopping boards
Salt/pepper/olive oil/any other regularly used condiment/seasoning
Knife block
Food waste bin
A section dedicated to letters/small toys/other dc paraphernalia/medication/stuff that doesn’t have a home. It’s a disgrace but as quickly as I tidy it more stuff gets dumped there. In fact I’ve just resolved to tackle it in the morning.

We had a new kitchen 2 years ago and I vowed to keep it really minimalist. And I did for about a year then it slowly started getting more and more crowded. Pretty much the same as the rest of the house tbh. I need a proper declutter.

Ginfordinner · 14/09/2020 10:07

Do those of you with cluttered worktops have huge kitchens?

Mintjulia I keep the bread in the cupboard next to the toaster. Bread bins take up too much space in my small kitchen.

BlusteryShowers · 14/09/2020 10:44

I had a sort out the other week and have got it down to

Microwave
Kettle
Perfect Prep
Fruit bowl

Everything else is in the cupboards. My kitchen isn't that big, but I do meal plan so my cupboards aren't full of extra food. I prefer it like this as it means it easier to keep clean.

Mintjulia · 14/09/2020 13:13

Eight items is my kitchen at its tidiest. Smile.

I'm impressed with the pp who has a toaster AND a gluten-free toaster. Now that must be a big kitchen Smile
