What is on your worktop

Dull I know but reading about very few people having a bread bin made me wonder what do others have on their worktops?

I have the usual kettle, toaster, microwave, I also have a bread bin, fruit bowl, tea and coffee jars, egg basket, utensils holder, a pestal and mortar, a box of tissues, and often a vase of flowers!

Probably over crowded but all my cupboards are full!

So what do you have hidden and what is out on show?

The items out we use daily so it's more for convenience!

Forgot knife block, dolce gusto, coffee pod stand, egg basket and pestle and mortar!

Flamingolingo · 12/09/2020 12:07

Coffee station (grinder and V60 set up), milk frother, toaster, kettle, assorted oils by the hob, sink caddy, fruit bowl.

The end of the island seems to be a dumping ground which is very irritating.

Stompythedinosaur · 12/09/2020 12:16

I would love to have clearer surfaces to help with quick cleaning, but we have a small kitchen with limited storage space.

At present we have a kettle and toaster, tea and coffee pots, a metal thing next to the hob for putting hot pots on, a bread maker and George foreman grill (both ugly but regularly used), the sink has a holder for washing up stuff and there's a small compost bin.

I have my most used recipe books, some photos, a couple of plants and an alexa dot on the windowsill.

Bbq1 · 12/09/2020 12:19

Knife block
Fruit bowl
Microwave
Kettle
Spoon rest
Coasters
Coffee syrups
Toaster

chipsandgin · 12/09/2020 12:22

More dirty plates, pans, glasses and mess than is humanly possible for 6 people to make in less than 24 hours when I spent ages cleaning it before dinner last night..and a cat.

Bbq1 · 12/09/2020 12:25

I have had 2 breadbins in the past. A lovely wooden one and a chrome one later on. They look nice but are so hard to clean. Nowadays, i keep my bread in a large airtight container in the cupboard. It holds a lot more than the standard bread bin and can be washed easily and regularly.

Angel2702 · 12/09/2020 12:27

Too much bread bin, fruit bowl, biscuit tin, kettle, toaster, weighing scales, Cooper maker, coffee grinder, food bin, lunch boxes.

RJnomore1 · 12/09/2020 12:30

Fruit bowl on island
Nespresso machine and kitchenaid on other worktops
Oh I forgot the index chopping boards

I hate stuff sitting about. The breadbin is in a drawer next to the toaster. We have a boiling water tap and the microwave is integrated. Anything else is on a carousel corner cupboard to lift out. The sockets are pop ups. I love it and tbh if I could get the rest out of sight I would but the kitchenaid is too heavy for a start.

mogloveseggs · 12/09/2020 12:31

Fruit bowl, cake tin, biscuit barrel, hamster cage, cereal boxes, microwave with printer on top, toaster, utensil pot, tea and coffee stuff, kettle, coffee machine, fish tank, radio
It's cluttered.
Might sort it out today.

LadyCatStark · 12/09/2020 12:35

Kettle, toaster, coffee machine, knife block. That’s it, I can’t cope with clutter!

Lyricallie · 12/09/2020 12:38

Too much for my liking.
American style coffee maker
Pod coffee maker (DP really likes coffee)
Toaster
Utensil holder
Kitchen roll holder
Spinny spice rack
Baby George foreman
Microwave
Kettle
Basket with all my cook books in it.

PenguinsOnParade · 12/09/2020 12:54

Kettle
Toaster
Microwave
Mug rack
Tea/coffee/sugar canisters
Storage jars for pulses/rice/pasta/flour etc
3 utensil holders
Knife rack
Rack of chopping boards
Spice rack
Bread bin
Fruit bowl
Egg basket
Banana hook
Bread maker
Veggie box

We have a lot of worktop space compared to cupboard space though so it's not as cluttered as it sounds and everything is nearby when I'm cooking.

HeyMicky · 12/09/2020 13:03

When we redid the kitchen I deliberately got rid of most stuff. Microwave above the oven now and boiling water tap so no kettle. Toaster lives in a drawer and the coffee machine is behind a door.

We have a fruit bowl and butchers block on the island, and a vase of flowers. Beside the hob is a salt pig, big pepper grinder, and 3 cruets for different cooking oils.

Behind the sink is a caddy for sponges, plus soap and hand cream.

I've also got a few decorative bits out. It not too sparse, especially with a marbles worktop and backsplash. I hate having shit everywhere, there's nowhere to work and it gets hard to see what you're doing

Nat6999 · 12/09/2020 13:04

Kettle, toaster, microwave, Tassimo, bread bin, utensil pots, tea, coffee & sugar cannisters, Tassimo pod holders. I divide my things in to an area for making hot drinks with mugs in a cupboard above, toaster area with bread bin & toaster & plates in cupboard above, dinner plates in cupboard above the cutlery drawer, all near the dishwasher to make unloading & putting pots & cutlery away easier.

Nat6999 · 12/09/2020 13:16

I'm disabled so try to arrange things so I don't have to move far for each task. I'm waiting for a bungalow & am hoping to be able to have a grant for an adapted kitchen as I'm very close to needing a wheelchair, so having every floor cupboard with pull out drawers & wall cupboards with pull down baskets & work top areas that a wheelchair can fit under.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2020 13:24

Microwave
Tray of condiments
Spoon rest
Utensil jar
Knife block
Set of small chopping boards
Weighing scales

Filter coffee machine
Cheese board
Teabag holder
Onion tin
Toaster
Box containing papers
Coin bowl

Weather thing
Pot of pens
Banana holder
Fruit bowl

I still have plenty of work surface as I have a big kitchen!

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2020 13:25

I forgot the dish drainer

BrieAndChilli · 12/09/2020 13:28

@Angel2702

Too much bread bin, fruit bowl, biscuit tin, kettle, toaster, weighing scales, Cooper maker, coffee grinder, food bin, lunch boxes.
What's a Cooper maker?

Galley kitchen: one side has tea/coffee/sugar canisters, Sweetex, utensil holder and hob. Also temporarily: large Kilmer jar of damson vodka - still at the daily shaking stage - bread board and a couple of knives as I've just made a bacon sandwich Smile

Other side has sink, dish drainer, some glasses drying on a tea towel (we had friends round last night). A small basket with DH's "old man" gout tablets and statins.

(Big) window sill has kitchen roll, washing up liquid, a lip balm, hand sanitiser, two pretty jugs, a vase of roses (about to be chucked), a nice enamel bowl with toothbrush charger, USB plugs, inevitable golf ball and tees and other DH crap.

Toaster lives in a cupboard as it takes up too space. It was out full time when I worked from home for four months as I had a mid-morning toast break every day.

StCharlotte · 12/09/2020 14:05

And kettle of course!
