Black section on MN

I think it would be great if Mumsnet could make a black parents section/ section for black users.

@DioneTheDiabolist you know that’s not what I was referring to that you didn’t challenge. You’ve just realised you were being a hypocrite.

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2020 18:50

ketoor maybe ‘Black Mums’ Matters’ so the apostrophe trolls don’t start objecting ffs.

Also more inclusive that way ?
Grin

Codexdivinchi · 10/09/2020 18:52
@Codexdivinchi maybe posters on the other boards can do the same then and tell posters to fuck off to the black board if they are being idiots.
Oh wait - that doesn’t sound quite as inclusive does it.
Please point out where I said posters could tell people to fuck of to the white boards.

You won’t find it - because I never said it.

Lies again.

Just for clarity though I meant ‘fuck off out of these boards as they don’t concern you if you’ve got nothing positive too add’

Does that clear it up for you? Smile

This thread is a perfect example of why Black people need their own space so it can’t get derailed.

My posts obviously aren't exciting enough to garner a response unless it's an excuse to be patronising, but for the record I do think a black section is a good idea.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 10/09/2020 18:58

Sorry OP but I'm going to step away from your other thread. The responses are vicious and I'd be glad if MNHQ decided to take it down.

Would be great to have somewhere to engage in a really thorough analysis of Michaela Coel's "I May Destroy You" ...
@Codexdivinchi that’s because there is not and never will be a board just for white people. It would (quite rightly) never be allowed because it is racist. Just as a black board is.
The whole world is catered to white people.

A black section isn't racist. Reverse racism doesn't exist.

Don't apologise! It takes a lot out of you.

I've noted that! Smile

@PatricksRum now THAT has given me quite a giggle! Grin

itsgettingweird · 10/09/2020 19:12

@midgebabe

It's not about segregation

It's about space

Segregation would imposed on the discriminated class, for example being Expected to create a new version of mumsnet just for black people rather than having a share of mumsnet

Space is just like lbtq, SN , other minority groups who can benefit from the space

Yeah that's exactly how I see it.

I posted above that having a child with a generic condition where he's 1:100k I use a close FN group specifically for that condition.

It's about space because if I posted in MN I doubt the few people who know about condition would ever see the post before it was too far down active etc.

It's the space determined for specific discussion relevant to groups of people where they feel valued.

Gilead · 10/09/2020 19:20

PatricksRum now THAT has given me quite a giggle!
And here is yet another reason the board is so desperately needed.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 10/09/2020 19:26

Beautifully put.

Kitmerow · 10/09/2020 19:27

@Gilead so the whole reason you want the board is because you don’t want anyone else to give their opinion if it doesn’t match yours?

That’s not really the point of a forum is it?

MiriamMargo · 10/09/2020 19:31

UNBELIEVABLE !

KetoPenguin · 10/09/2020 19:32

@HeronLanyon or maybe ‘Black Mums’ Matters’ so the apostrophe trolls don’t start objecting ffs.
Ha yes good save, MNers might be divided on some issues but they all hate an incorrect apostrophe.

How dare you !
derxa · 10/09/2020 19:37

I hope you get your board OP. It really isn't comparable but as a Scot I'm glad Scotsnet is there. It's like putting on a pair of comfy old slippers after wearing tight shoes.

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2020 19:41

keto bloody brill you took it the way intended. It was just too funny not to but really worried you might read it wrong Grin

Thank you.

I can relate to the comfy feeling!

MysweetAudrina · 10/09/2020 19:51

Have to say I do like the craicnet section for the discussion of specific topics so can see why black people would enjoy having a section where there is common understanding and experience on certain topics.

MeridaTheBold · 10/09/2020 19:52

Scotsnet didn't ask for different moderation. It also didn't start from a basis of saying non-Scottish people couldn't ask questions or could be banned for asking goady questions. It's understandable why the OP feels differently about those issues.

From an allocation of space - yy the question was the same. And yy there was lots of resistance to it on Chat threads.

We actually... finally... got Scotsnet when we moved the discussion to Site Stuff. Bunfights on Chat don't lead to new sections. There's too much bad faith, gfs, cfs and trolls. There's also not enough space for the real discussion about who the section is for, what it should be called, why it's needed.

Not everyone will like the use of Black or BAME . That's the type of nitty gritty discussion that has to happen with the target audience for the board. Most of the posters derailing on here aren't that target audience and I'd guess some of them aren't MN users at all.

Gilead · 10/09/2020 20:04

Gilead so the whole reason you want the board is because you don’t want anyone else to give their opinion if it doesn’t match yours?
What utter tosh. It’s needed. In part because of comments like yours. HTH.

@june2007

So if your Asian this site won,t be for you. If your an Arab it seems it,s not for you. Infact one poster said Afro carribean only so no one from any other Ethnic manorirty? I do get why people want it, but having followed some of OP,s other very offensive threads in the past it seems it exists to boost her ego.
If another ethnicity wants a specific area then it is up to them to ask MNHQ for a specific area. It isn’t the job of a black person to do that for them.
KitMarlowesCodpieceOfthigh · 10/09/2020 20:14

@Rossaloony

God its embarrassing being white.
I know Confused I'm genuinely baffled as to how someone could object to a Black topic on MN.
