Because bitter male cucumbers don't bring joy, but phallic aubergines can raise an irreverent smile.

AD chat continues about life, the universe and everything. We know the answer is 42 but what is the question?
6x7?
How many roads must a man walk down?
How many unsadly reincarnations have PHE put into the database?

@loulouljh that's a terrible long wait for you. The whole system is broken isn't it? I recently opted to see a cardiologist privately because the nhs wait was so long. I am lucky I can do that, but I was desperate as I knew something was wrong, and, well, the money would have been used on a now non existent holiday, so I put it to good use. I was seen within a week and have been diagnosed with a heart condition which is now being treated, so I feel it was money well spent and has given me peace of mind (in that, I am not about to drop dead as I feared!) which the nhs could not do. Personally I get a bit fed up with all this love, praise and thanks for the nhs. The service at the moment is generally appalling, unless of course you've got covid. God help you if you have got a serious (non covid) illness, because the nhs won't necessarily be helping you in a timely manner.
Complete change of subject. In the 80s I was house hunting and ended up looking in Wyre Piddle in Worcestershire. I went to see a dear little cottage. It was called Wee Wee cottage, Wyre Piddle. I nearly bought it for the name alone. Apologies if you live there and happen to be a mumsnetter - it was still there a few years ago when I was up that way and went to look.

I'm not a bad cook but very slow so can't help. I just sort of arse around the kitchen dancing and then the family get food whenever. And then they MUST admire it fulsomely or I get the hump.

Amazing!! And you didn't buy it??

Reedwarbler · 18/08/2020 19:15

No, sir Samuel, it needed work which I couldn't afford, sadly.

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 18/08/2020 19:16

Tragic @Reedwarbler, genuinely tragic

Littlebelina · 18/08/2020 19:30

Another slow breaststroke in the sea here. Never mastered front crawl

loulouljh · 18/08/2020 19:48

@Reedwarbler..i agree re the NHS although appreciate that the on the ground staff are just doing what they are told from on high. To be fair if I get worried I will go privately..but I am lucky that I can do that if necessary. Not everyone can. It is not good enough. The numbers with covid are minimal currently but still everything else is on hold.

BakewellTarts · 18/08/2020 20:00

Its a scandal that the only way you can get treatment or seen is through private health. We are lucky in that we have it through work but this is not what the NHS should be about. Having said that we will and do use our access when required.

On that subject spent 3 hours in a healthcare setting today. All seems well fortunately although still awaiting the results of some tests (including a covid antobody test that will be interesting). I can report that wearing a disosable mask is as grim as my cloth ones and is terrible for the environment. Also having observed just how poorly masks were worn by the professionals in the hosputal including doctors I can only conclude that they are performance only.

@Isaysteadyon

We had a similar sounding tea.
Any tips to cook faster?
It involved some bags & a tub. I bet yours was nicer.

NannyPhlegm · 18/08/2020 20:24

Thank you for the Charlie McLeod recommendation. I've been checking out the DryRobe for over a year now, and always chicken out of buying. It costs a kidney!
We do a lot of winter sports, even in wind and rain, and the DC often get freezing cold. We also go to the beach often enough that it will be very useful, but I still balk at the initial outlay got four people.

I have never mastered front crawl either. My legs just sink to the ground, no matter what I do. They sink even in a wetsuit, and I've been told that's difficult to do!!
I can do the backstroke, but I feel vulnerable not being able to see where I'm going. So slow breaststroke it is.

ISaySteadyOn · 18/08/2020 20:35

@TheOrchidKiller, mine involved a tin :-).

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 18/08/2020 20:37

That's an awesome carrot!

BakewellTarts · 18/08/2020 20:49

Wow mutant veg galore.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/08/2020 20:49

@ISaySteadyOn I did look at my dinner & think it resembled what comes out of a tin, & perhaps I'd gone to too much effort to get that result!

Kind of sums it up for today.

@Realityexistsinthehumanmind
That looks like it should belong in an aquarium.

Taswama · 18/08/2020 20:51

I can't keep up with you but wanted to say thank you for the Bill Gates articles.
I shall be sea swimming in a few days but with a wetsuit on. I really feel the cold and I can't imagine doing it in just a swimsuit!

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2020 20:53

I had my tomato pasta along with pollo Milanese courtesy of Rishi, and very lovely it was too!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/08/2020 22:05

I had crab and prawn linguine, a gin and tonic and a glass of wine. Linguine courtesy of Rishi.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 18/08/2020 22:19

@NannyPhlegm I’ve been known to wear mine around Sainsbury’s apres swim! 😁 I’m only 5’4” so I got the short sleeves meaning I can drive in it.

Just spotted the date
My lovely gran would’ve been 124 today.
Wow, she wouldn’t have been impressed at what happened either.

Dowser · 18/08/2020 22:47
